I just got a msg from system that says I'm now officially a mentor , it instructs me to go to chickadee roost to take care of chick... but same message there as before and no way to find out if in fact there is a chick.
    my chickadee showed up today:)
several days of sending chick gifts/ messages no response at all...however therm is still looking good, any ideas from other mentors ? I feel like I am messaging a wall here.

I also received a message letting me know that I am also a mentor. After a couple of years I had given up ever becoming one. Have you gotten any help from any one else?
I found the faq about mentoring but it's not much help. Would appreciate any help or ideas.

After being a mentor for a couple of years and giving up twice, I found less than 5% of chicks bother replying to your messages.
I found many chicks flashing red on their therm when I got them and the green ones were mainly on level 2/3, it's not possible to complete the tutorial without getting to at least level 4. If they stay on a very low level for more than a couple of day you can assume they gave up playing as soon as they started. In 2 years I got about 5 chicks that responded and wanted help.

If they are levelling up and giving you benefit, keep them for a while. send gifts & messages daily, your get points for that. Explain how they can send you gifts. If they are of no benefit to you and don't respond, dump them and get other ones. You may get some worthwhile eventually who want help

Thanks Jools for the info, this is all new but I hope that I can help someone.

I'm wondering if the new chickadees don't know how to message or send a gift? The only reason I figured out how to send my mentor a gift was by trial and error. Also, the newbie may be thinking {as did I} that they had nothing of value to offer a mentor. In fact, beyond EP, not sure that I have anything now that a more experienced player would want/need.

Thank you Jools! I know several people are mentors but couldn't find posts in relation to it... nwTrout1 thank you, I have wondered about that myself but there is a msg box on chickadees nest and I think there is probably one for the chick to respond also, maybe i need to ask people I know were chickadees

Hi, I have a baby farm with a mentor who messages me every day. I find it extremely irritating - I don't want to be messaged every day.
So maybe ask them if they do want to receive daily messages?

There must have been run on mentors being assigned. After a long time and relodging my request to be a mentor i finally got notified yesterday i have been made a mentor too.

For those still waiting, check if your electronic application is still current. I found that I had to reapply.

I have sent my chicks a message asking if they have played before. As its pointless bombarding people who have played for yrs with info they already know.

But it is also up to the chick to say that the constant messages are unnecessary.

I, too, recently became a mentor after waiting for 2 years (just this week). I agree Fiona that it is up to the chick to say they don't wish to receive messages. New players registered asking for a mentor to help guide them through the game. It would be just as annoying for a newbie to want to be mentored but never hear from their mentor. If a chick just wants the daily gift available at their level, speak up. If the farm is a baby farm of an established player, it would be considerate to say so.

This game is very complex (more than you realize when you begin playing) and it is nice to have someone you can lean on to help ask questions especially if you find the forum intimidating (only in that it can be overwhelming to try to find information and sift through the mountains of it).

Thank you Jools for sharing your experience. So far, I have chicks that are low levels, one's thermometer was blinking red when I got it, only one has responded to IGM and sent a gift in return (just once) and all have dropping thermometers.

Song by Diana Ross comes to mind: :music:I'm still waiting ... :music:.

But I took your advice, Fiona. I know I applied from this farm but couldn't remember if Chevrefeuille had applied. Both were asking me to "join" again so I applied on both farms. Let's see ... :D

Illy hopefully it wont be long for you to wait, because you will no doubt make an awesome mentor. And deserve the rewards for all the effort you put in to assisting people . Nothing would please me more to see your post here saying you have been accepted.

I just thought that it was the system was broken and new mentors weren't being assigned. So it was just idol curiosity that i checked it. And I don't think my wait after reapplying was all that long maybe a couple of months give or take.

Which is why I encourage everyone still waiting to check there own application request.

I first applied when Mentoring first came in and have been waiting ever since. I only had the one farm and when I started the second farm, one of my wonderful neighbours became my Mentor. She lavished my new baby with lots of gifts. Thanks Yagki! ;)

Can't believe the "baby" is now able/strong enough to apply to be a Mentor. How time flies. :)

The irony is, when I first applied, I had lots of time, or so it seemed, these days that's not always the case. But I know I would love to be finally accepted as a Mentor and it would also help to keep me on my toes regarding the game.:p

I hadn't checked the Mentor icon for a while, Fiona, probably about the time they changed the farmhouse/greenhouse/mentor set-up - and it still said I would be notified "soon". :wuerg:

So I wonder how long the new invite to "join" has been there ... :D

I'm sure you mentor takes the effort to send you a free gift everyday along with the message.
So why are you in the mentoring programme is you find the mentor messages annoying?
As an experienced player, it's not as if you need the help of a mentor

No, a mentor was assigned to me automatically. I didn't ask for one.

Thank you Noelle for telling me. For some reason, I thought players had to enroll in the program just like mentors had to apply. But somehow your comment clears those cobwebs in my brain a little and make me think I did read that all new players are assigned. Are chicks allowed to leave the nest like mentors are allowed to remove chicks? If so, if players don't want to be mentored can they leave? If not, I would hope they would let the mentor know they don't want/need help, don't wish to receive messages or if they are an experienced player, then communicate that to the mentor and then no hard feelings on either side.

all very good points thanks every one! If I remember correctly, the messages sent to chickadees are part of the "taking care of chick" to get love points... If I am wrong on this please someone let me know.

I think you could leave the nest but I'm not sure as this wasn't something I looked to do before getting to level 40 when I was "fledged". :p

I once thought I was assigned a mentor but had not joined the system. I watch carefully now and am fairly certain one must join the system. I am unsure though.

One may leave the nest whenever one chooses provided one has not reached level 40 and may not join the system as a chickadee any longer.

Reach level 40 and you're tossed from the nest. (I have one farm spooky_broke that is level 31 and will not leave the nest anytime this year or next year. It only will engage in BAHA activities and run the mill on the mainland but no farming on the mainland whatsoever. And surely this was not the intent of the mentor system but I luv my mentor.)

The farm sends the mentor five (5) luv points each day. (If one sends the luv points first though the farmhouse then one may also send another gift to the mentor when gifting others.)

There are many different styles to mentoring and some are great and others are simply awful.

Most mentors have sent at least one igm but a few have not. If one is beginning a baby far and does not wish assistance one may also write the mentor and say so or simply leave the system and if they choose they may reenter.

The mentor can send some very useful gifts. For example: There is timed quest asking for eggs. A new farmer does not have an egg tree to make this simple and it will take forever to get enough tools to use for an egg farm that has little use anyway. So egg farms are nice to have and the some for rabbit shearing pens (angola) for use in completing the timed quest.

The tutorial ends in the middle of L2.
You have to work to get to L3 and further.
Therefore, those who get fed up remain at L2...
    :(:(:(
PS: Congratulations to all the late comers...

Signed up as soon as it started and still waiting patiently here. In fact I'd almost forgotten about it until I saw this thread. Thanks @FionaSky for highlighting the need to reapply, it hadn't even occurred to me that I might have to.:p
