New Baby reindeer to my herd

Happy Mothering Sunday to you How exciting that Katya, Mischa, and Twiglet may all be expecting! Only time will tell for sure! How very lovely that you had some help on the farm today and wonderful the little girl may have found a new friend! I am hoping Dilly is feeling better every day and will soon be back to her old self Thanks for all the wonderful up dates from your world it is so much fun to read about!

 

PS... I have my fingers crossed that all your (bred) girls are preggers, will carry to full term, deliver thriving bouncing babies and you will be going in circles keeping track of who's who Karen. You and your herd have had a crazy year, you all deserve a successful, stress free birthing season (and the babies will all be little girls of course).

No still photos today but have several videos. I wanted to share their early morning wake up stretches as it looks like the Ministry of funny Walks but it was too over exposed to be worth going through UTube so instead sharing an afternoon play time... sorry it's a long one but starts with Lotte playing with a bucket and towards the end the girls antler wrestling with Hector butting in as usual.

 

OMGosh waaaaait, was that little Hector asserting his dominance over who gets to have fun in his pasture???? LOL @ him looking back at you to make sure you got that on film. Camera HAM

And was that some reindeer clicking I heard???
Mannnn Oh Mannn how I love those speckly noses/muzzles, sooooo incredibly kissable! Muwahmuwahmuwah... MUWAH!!!

Lotte was really after the handles on that tub! Do they chew them off very often??? I too adore the video's!!! They give us a real feeling of being there with them. I saw some pretty big bellies....I definitely think a few of the ladies are preggers!!!

 

Brookeham, they can't really chew through handles as reindeer only have teeth on the bottom jaw (and they're pretty small too) and a pad of hard skin on the top. They do have molars top and bottom but they are right at the back of jaw. Lotte is pretty much sucking the trug to death!
Guinea, you may very well have heard clicking as Boris and Mischa walk past very close, only watched it with sound off.

Decided to attach the video of morning stretches, it is a little over exposed but I think you can see their silly walks as they first stand up.

I am hoping there aren't loads of posts as each time I pasted it did silly things.....
But this passage is the basis of the Sami (Native reindeer herders beliefs) I find it quite moving...

In the beginning there was a White Reindeer…

The true white reindeer are available occasionally but being albinos they do have problems with skin cancers etc.... but I would still like one, one day... Hector gets sunscreen on his nose during the summer... so what difference is is doing the whole reindeer

 

Maybe a blanket? (Make sure it would break away if necessary.) Putting sunscreen on fur. Not something I would want to do. Otherwise, you would need a paddock that had complete shade. (Plus the sunscreen on all the bits with no hair. Maybe a mask for the eyes.)

 

Hark, the Zorro reindeer. Not here to save the day, except mine, I'm here to avoid getting sunburned.

 

Not easy to see on video (especially as Hector was nudging me at the time) but thought you might like to try to spot Hector's brother or sister.

Katya's calf was very much awake this morning. You might need a couple of watches to spot the little kicks - the best I think is on her lower tummy line. Mischa and Twiglets calves appeared to be sleeping.
Hopefully I'll get more obvious kicks on film as the weeks progress.

Oh This is Sooo exciting!! I saw Katya's tummy kicks too I wonder if he or she will be like Hector!!?
