Just used some of my stars to get a menagerie. Already have it loaded with frogs. :p It's too soon to tell if it's worth it or not but. . .what else am I going to do with all my stars? They're worthless if they're not working for me.

    8) O.K., in spite of all my objections (which are still valid for the horrendous amounts required for the upgrades!!)my FOCD and 'need to see for myself' seem to have won the first round, and I bought the menagerie with BB's...I will probably never have 500 stars all at once...so it wasn't much of an option.

I have to say that I love it!!
I loaded it with 4 pink cuckoos with reg. feed in order to get the power drills in a short amount of time...and in 1 hr.38min. I will have 12 cuckoos and at least one power drill.

I just harvested the menagerie....and it did NOT give me any power drills!!
    Anyone know why not????:(

Same reason you wouldn't get any other drop. It's random and most likely the longer the stable time, the higher chance of getting a drop.

    8) The FAQ stated that we would get a power drill "only from harvesting the menagerie". It did not state that it would be a normal drop.

Farmlily, it is considered a rare tool. I'm just guessing but I feel pretty sure that they will be very random. Remember how hard it was to get the scrap metal, drip tanks and zen rakes at first. Give it time and you will have plenty of them.
I'm considering buying the one from the shop...curiosity is getting the better of me. The quest does not look that bad now that I see it. And I see that you can donate regular animals to the quest...not just breeding animals. My market was sold out of hedgehogs, wolfs and raccoons in no time.

Just remember if you're going to do the quest that you only need to do the silver version of the first part. The rest are quite a bit easier and will provide more than enough blueprints.

JJenks, the FAQ was quite specific, that we would get drops only when harvesting the menagerie, so it wouldn't be like the other 'rare' drops that were given in a random fashion from whatever was harvested.
It also wouldn't make sense for it to be random since it is so specific to one singular item.:(

Thank you (both)for trying to answer this question - it does seem a puzzle.
Hope you enjoy the new Menagerie! Lol - I know the FOCD feeling!!;)
It's the stars and upgrades that are so ridiculously wrong and ruinously demanding!!:eek:o_O
But if you do get it...have fun with it!:)

No you are right it does not specifically say that it is a rare tool. They should have made that clear in the FAQ if that is how it is intended to work. I just assumed that it would be as the rest of the quest/event is challenging. I know all of the last tools introduced into the game have taken time to gather...so just an assumption on my part.

I never expected it to be a 100% drop. My understanding that it has some random percentage of being able to drop, but that the only place it drops is from the menagerie.

farmlily, there is no puzzle... the FAQ says drops and drops are always random. How rare the power drills are, only time will tell. Honestly if we got a power drill with every harvest there would be no point in them, as we would have enough very very quickly. I am guessing it will take a while to collect enough for the upgrades... but we'll see :)

I have been playing around with the quest, sort of peek at what it will cost to do the three silvers... 5 red donkey, around 14 feather collectors, no lie I was gonna see what the sell back button did with these next G&T, and can't do crop/tree my mouse quit.<fainted>
The two I did did not seem all that bad figure throw a bee queen in with the tools, and figure on growing a lot of maple sap if island stuff can't be used.
Maybe by time I get the trees/crops my wood will get up in numbers. Just playing around... but it seems doable.
I'm stuck, BB one to start working on drill drops or wait till I can get all the wood....or work on them store up and hold out for a half price maybe or not.
    My head hurts lol

    8) Mine, too, mingling!!....Can't use Island trees/crops; barn crushing requirements; sky full of Stars; Forests full of Wood; r-a-n-d-o-m power drill drop from only the menagerie(!!!).....I'm beginning to regret having gotten a Menagerie!! (Can I have my BB's back??!xDIn my dreams!)

Looks like you were both correct, JJenks & Decree...the power drills are completely random - from one item ONLY...which means there's no telling how many weeks it might take for one upgrade...not to mention, of course, all the rest of the requirements.
What's the point?? Where's the incentive?? BP should write a book: "How to Build up Hopes and Excitement, and Crush them - in One Easy Lesson"!

I am soooo disappointed (in case you couldn't tell)!!!:cry:

Mir, it would be more acceptable if this PD drop came from the same variety/number of sources as the regular drops do...but this comes from only one single place...and that may have harvest times of 24 hrs or more. Could be like growing 24 hr. event crops!!
I think you have guessed right - it will take a w-h-i-l-e!

Thanks for all the input everyone!:)

EDIT: Harvested 4 Frogs....STILL no power drill! (worse than watching paint dry....!!)

pssssst Here's something for ya. We'll keep it just between us.

You know that animal pen box that holds four (4) animal pens right?
Well folks are buying basic and breeding animals for um.
(Now this is a chicken players dream or lettuce player's heaven)
Breeding animals or normal animals may be submitted for the first level.
They all have an EV right?
I've been watching a few breeding animals a little and of course the dump (basic) animals.
Real efficient to donate on the basis of lowest market to EV ratio. <--------------
Take the albino bat for instance (EV is 1,600)
I was began buying way below 1,000. I'll use 1,000 for illustration.
That market to EV ratio was .625
Then the price kept moving upward and it reached 1,600 for a while
That market to EV ratio was 1.00 (better for me to sell but did not)
The price keeps going up as people submit the Albino bat and now market is over 5,100 and -0- avail.
That market to EV ratio is 3.188
    .....
As the price moves upward, other animals with similar EV begin to be used (get the picture)
    Speckled goat sold out next
and its going on and on and on with other animals being included

Finally there is a limit reached where dump animals become eligible as good to donate.
And those animals continue up in price and pretty close the the same market to EV ratio

With some of the dump animals there are thousands needed to complete the silver level

If purchasing animals for this purpose or for future selling then one should consider this.

Those who do not know are even submitting chickens. But each to their own.

    -.- Who we?!?:p
At this point I am just gonna save up my animal #'s for the neons,
    :( ? :(
There be a comic with puppets, peanut had a line where he passed his hand over his head and indicate way over the head of that person.
:sleepy: lookie, I found my raking.

    Here is a donation example.

One needs say 1,000,000 EV worth of animals for the managerie quest
Say you have many many chickens,
    many many albino bats and
you have many many many cows.

I want to answer which to donate and why.

animalthis market priceexchange value (EV)market divided by EV total required is by EV only (ignores market price)
    chickens607.3925.0024.30 40,000
    alb bats5932.921600.003.71 625
    cows1418.90189.007.71 5,292
Take the lowest market to EV which is 3.71 for albino bats and donate them because they are presently the most efficient. I will be getting the most for my ccs (ignoring anything else). So I need 625 albino bats at that market price with that ratio.

Now say I want to keep the albino bats for some reason (just as you wish to keep some animal).

Then what do I donate in order to get 1,000,000. The next most efficient to donate is cows (if I ignore every other animal and there are for me to choose from---but for example! This example uses only three animals and is based of this market and not all animals. Surely your market has more animals and the market price is different. ) I need 5,292 cows to get 1,000,000 in EV.

The donation is made on the basis of EV and not market value, not! The market value is used to compute an efficient donation.

But chickens take 40,000. Why do that though. One can sell the chickens for over 600 each and buy the albino bats or something else to donate, but not chickens. But each to their own. If I want to give chickens then BP will gladly accept them.

Ok, just harvested my frogs in the menagerie and . . . no power drill. So 16 hr. pens didn't produce the drop item. Will have to keep trying.

    8) O.K....this is getting o-l-d! 5-6 harvests from the Menagerie - and no power drills!! Not one!-.-
Pink Cuckoos 1:38hrs; Frogs twice: which are 16 hr. pens (that took 11-12hrs) ; Neon Rabbits 7-8hrs,......Nada, nothing....where are these promised power drills????

I haven't gotten any either, lily. Maybe we'll get one a week - can't make it too easy for us. After the next harvest, think I'll switch to orange ostriches. Those are a little over 21 hrs. It could turn out to not be a timing thing at all, but just dumb luck.

Okay I broke down and got one  8) I put 4 Pink Bees in it yesterday...No drill, but wasn't really expecting one.
I do love the amount of animals for the space but miss seeing the pretty pinks. Also I noticed that if you run your cursor over the menagerie then the time kind of sticks....you see that time for everything else. I have to click on the screen frame before it will go away.
