To answer your question about what to do with your farm for the duration of the event....

What I would do (which may differ from others) is...

plant your longest crop overnight (rye) on all 3 fields (or whatever works best for you if rye is too long)

    leave your menagerie with stables

trees - base trees of 20 hours are good to start an event with but if you can place any XXL upgrades you have. XXL upgrades give you the opportunity to harvest twice daily which will improve your chances for drops

buffs - there are alchemist products that decrease time on different crop categories. The biggest thing to do is to keep your farm active.

trophies - continue to work on trophy donations as you can. If you don't have Living Legend yet remember to move those trophies to each field prior to harvesting

Good luck! Be proud of all you have done with this young farm.

It is important to note, that when you place an upgrade on a Tree, Workshop, or Stable it does decrease the base time. That's not to say it isn't worth it. It does give more opportunities, and more fruit, each day.

WowWowWow!!!! You guys have really given this stuff a going over with a microscope!...and I thought I was just building a f-a-r-m!! Silly me!!:DxDxD I am soooo impressed!!:music:
Decree, BP is missing something by not hiring you on the Game Team!! LoveLoveLove your in-depth explanation of all things 'EVENT' for Newer farms!!
Thank you ALL for such great thoughts and advice!:inlove:

Question: I was under the impression that having XL or XXL trees did not affect the base time as far as drops were concerned, but only lessened the actual time till harvest. Is this w-r-o-n-g?? I've been putting out as many XXL's as I can. Should I remove them? Do XXL's make up for it because of being harvested more often?? Or is the decrease in time the deciding factor as to how many drops one gets from the tree?? Which is the better option?

I'll be harvesting my last field soon for the Evening/night Harvest totals - and there is a difference after harvesting only 2 of the 3 fields. I'll post the results in the Challenge post #108 as soon as the last field is ready. More of the pens/trees were ready to harvest, which made a big difference.

Just harvested last field - going to post #108 to list totals.

XXL and XL tree's are bases. They start when they are upgraded, and as such aren't considered a buff. There's no real data to support one over the other as far as effectiveness. Because a base tree is using more time to increase odds of a drop, and XXL trees use quantity of triggers. XL tree's really won't do much to help either. So the choice is up to you. My opinion is that the base tree will have a slightly higher chance to produce an event drop as base time seems to be more effective at producing drops.

Decree, if I have enough Mulch for all trees, is it better to have base trees of 20 hours with mulch for that second harvest in the day? Am I correct in saying that mulch does not change the base time, just shortens the actual harvest time - unlike what an XXL upgrade would do...

This is correct, mulch acts just like water or manure would on crops. I did not include it with my post as there is no cheap/non-BB way of obtaining Turbo-Mulch outside of events.

While participating and completing events will allow players to build up quite a healthy stock of TM overtime, I still don't recommend using it to obtain event drops. Strategically it's best to save the TM for rare tree fruit which can be sold at a premium due to inflated prices. Building up a healthy stockpile of CC's will also help with future events. The strategies we've discussed in this thread are primarily adapted for a growing type event such as the one we have currently. Yet, there are a lot of other event types in which having a well stocked barn and a healthy sum of saved CC's will save a lot of frustration.

A second strategic use is when you may absolutely need tree fruit for a different event. Having said that, I would recommend it only as a final resort for someone who is close to finishing an event, but needs that little extra push for whatever reason. An event like this one still has more than two days left, so obtaining drops should be doable through other means without having to use a rare item such as TM.

Wow Wow Wow This Thread has really come back to Life to show Farmers how benefit and useful Information as be proving my our Lovely Fellow Farmers.

:D SuzeeRabbit to Brilliant to hear from you as you always give us very informative postings as i have been stepping in your Missed Absent :)

Oldman49.......The Deal with Roses is for a few reasons

    • Roses gives the best EP as a CROP in terms of growing time 10h:48m = 96 EP
    • Flower Cloud Row boost roses EP by another 30% (Does not need a Buff Slot)
    • Flower Cloud Row also reduces flower crops times by 10% since roses are flowers
    • Manure with growth boost rune make manure 20% effective
    • But also used in combined with Duo Fertilizer roses refinement make manure 40% Effective
    • Water reduces roses growth by 20%
    • Water Love roses refinement makes water 26% effective
    • Early Bloomer rose refinement reduce rose crop by 7.5%
    • SOL (Source of Life [Alchemist Craft Level 5]) Reduces All flower crops by 6%
    • EOL (Elixir of Life [Alchemist Craft Level 3]) Reduces All flower crops by 4%
    • SOL and EOL helps flower crops to those who not got the Flower Cloud Row which gives the Same effectiveness combined vs Flower Cloud which is 10% effective
Note: Using combination of water, manure. Flower Cloud Row, refinements of duo Fertilizer, Early Bloomer and Water Love, EOL and SOL (Two Silver Slot Buffs) and growth boost rune. Can reap Roses down to 6h:12m:126 EP for Every 2 x 2 Field

Using two gold buff slots and third silver buff slot using Carrot Bread can Boost your EP on Roses exponentially :DxD

I have a Strategy Wording known as Effective Drop Reap Rate (EDRR). Almost in every event we have to collect Drop Items in Limited Time Window. The Ideal of this concept is we can reap protential Drops in a much shorter time so we can reap it much soon than we normally would.

EDRR - Always works best with Crops on Main Field, Green Meadow and The Glade, using 1 x 1 Field

    Example: Roses
    • Diamond Slot ( CAC )
    • Gold Slot 1 ( ZAB )
    • Gold Slot 2 ( EM )
    • Silver Slot 1 ( CB )
    • Silver Slot 2 ( SOL)
    • Silver Slot 3 ( EOL )
    • Rose Refinement Slot 1 ( Early Bloomer )
    • Rose Refinement Slot 2 ( Water Love )
    • Rose Refinement Slot 3 ( Duo Fertilizer )
    • Flower Cloud Row
    Pink_Lily / Decree / Fellow Farmers......

Using Trees during Events whether they are 20h/18h/12h/Normal/XL or XXL Trees are the Worst to use to gain Drops during Events as they do not compute well with my EDRR Formula Concept plus those with FOCD does not bode well either. To the simple Fact they take too long to Reap the only thing than can Help Tree times in Super Mulch by only by 30%. There isnt any Buff or Refinement or Craft than can reduce Tree Times !!

This is Why I always refrain from using Trees on Main Field, Green Meadow and The Glade. I am a CROP FARMER !!xD:D

    Effective Drop Reap Rate (EDRR)

This applies to all farmers, Newbies, Intermediate and old timer Veterans alike.
There are several things to have to consider, what it needed to Boost Drop Rates

    • Crop Trophy
The Percentage of this trophy starts at 0% can be maxed to 15%. As you need to donate Farm crops to level up this trophy ASAP. The Quickest and Best way to do this is generate as much CC as possible buy crops from the market to donate to this trophy to level it up towards 15% marker !!

You can also grow crops to donate to Crop Trophy too. Best Buff for this is CAC, which gives +2 Crops using Diamond Craft Slot !!

But at the same time you need level up your farm asap but earning all the Ep you can. It helps tremendously by working on Farmer Society Quests (FSG) to gain EP Quickly. Using Buffs and pets also helps gain EP. Also EP from any cloud rows helps too !!

The Benefit of leveling up your farm you can buy or grow crops of higher donation value. You can also donate farm Fruits to Crop Trophy too. But is takes too long to grow Tree fruits to do this best way to do this is Buy fruits from the markets to be used to donate into Crop Trophy. But fruits have a much higher exchange value than crops. I highly recommend to donate Fruits for Crop Trophy to level up. Sadly Tree Fruits are no longer cheap in our Market these days. To get round this problem you need to generate as much CC as possible by Selling stuff in the markets. Then use your CC to snap up fruits in the markets.

    • Animal Trophy
The Percentage of this trophy starts at 0% can be maxed to 15%. As you need to donate any Farm Animal Value to level up this trophy ASAP. The Quickest and Best way to do this is generate as much CC as possible buy Animals in the markets. To donate to this trophy to level it up towards 15% marker !!

But avoid donating Chickens they are the worse Animal EV, The Best Animal EV Currently is Toucans which has EV of 905 !!

I would refrain from growing animals using animal pens as it is not cost effective if you not got Coloured Animal Pens. Plus you always need Animal Feed for any Animal Pens grow animals as Animal Feed has to be either milled or brought from the markets !! If you look at the markets some animal feeds cost more than the price of animals in the market !!

    • Moving Crop and Animal Trophies to Maximise Drop Rate
At First you have to manually move your Crop and Animal Trophies before your reap your farm fields. Which is a real pain this is needed to be done to boost more drops from your fields
    • Living Legend Rune
The Benefit of Living Legend Rune, you no longer have to move both Crop and Animal Trophy from field to field to boost your Drops. But you need to build up good stock of Stars to unlock Living Legend Rune.
    • Howie Donuts
Each Howie Donut can Boost up to 5% of Drops, for each Howie Donut placed in Main Farm, Green Meadow, The Glade, Bahamarama and Rain Forest..
Sadly you can only Obtain an Howie Donut from Barter and Gift Event only :wuerg:
    • Premium Account
Subscribing to Premium Account has a feature that Boost your Drops by 5%. This Feature cost Real Money
    • Minimise Idle Farm Time
At all cost avoid or prevent your farm idle time. When something is ready to be harvest in your Farm. Harvest your farm as soon as you can. At times it is in Middle of the Night, or at work, No Internet Connection or Wifi, Computer/Laptop/Smart Phone.Tablet no available or accessible. Too Busy in Real Life to Access Farmerama !!

As Decree mention about Production Pens. I also do not bother with production pens either as they are not cost effective to be an very productive farmer. As every Production pens does need an Animal Feed or at least 1 animal or more per production workshop. Second Reason, you cannot use Alchemist Crafts or Refinements on any workshops. Thirdly most of them take too long to reap which goes against my EDRR Formula to get Drops in fastest possible way.

    SUPER EDRR
You all wondering what i mean by this ?:DWell it it known as Nuking. As you can only Nuke Crops by means of using Super Grow !!

Normal Super Grow reduces your crops by 50% growing time !! But used in conjunction with growth boost rune makes SG 60% Effective

With Nuking you can get up to near Instant Crops or 100% Instant Crops. Near Instant Crops is for those who not got Harvest 2014 Cloud Row. Which Gives Super Grow 5% Boost for 6 Hours, every 96 Hours. Or those who not got SG Love Crop Refinement

The Combination of Harvest 2014 Cloud Row, Crop Refinement of SG Love such as Roses, Carnations, Leeks and Organic Cotton. Used with Buffs of Fruit Cake and White Innocents can get Instant 100% Harvest of these Refinement Crops. The most effective to be used using Comfort Fields to reap Event Drops !!:)

There was only ever one flower on my wheel for the flower row... the daisie
And got most of the scarecrows ...but for cpt scarecrow ...he was never on my wheel
So i shall never be able to complete that cloud row

Now i have got to get 100 drops to make 5 pots in the next harvests ... can't see that happening ...will be a mirror call if i get them ;)

I am half way on 120 to get the cloud row ....And family are coming for lunch ...so tizz going to be a bit of a hectic day getting it all together

My Living legend is completed ...that doesn't help with drops and i see it as my time was wasted completing it...my drops have been poor since day one of this event

I have done nothing with Menagerie, Arboretum... Is it worth the trouble? I bought the quest then abandoned because I didn't have time to bother with buying critters, etc. I guess I should look for the FAQ...

It's been years since I've calculated but Red Roses had the best EP/crop/hr of regular crops. I grew a lot of them years ago when I was trying to level up my farm. Don't usually grow them now.

I got the flowers by only spinning the wheel when a flower was showing as a possible prize. Right now I only spin the Party Wheel when the dark horse that generates uber poop is showing. I only spin the other wheel when mandrake is not on the wheel.

Lily_pink, with a name like that?! You might like to see a pic of my Resurrection Lilies. They came with the property. No surprise you want the pink pen. There is at least one other person that has posted in this thread that used to be obsessed with pink pens. Probably still is. lol

    Trees?
I love dogwoods but they don't do well in the Sacramento Valley, too hot. Currently my yard is paved where I would like to plant a magnolia. I have about six months more work cleaning up the fire damage then I'm going to plant some butterfly bush and prune into a tree shape. They would be a more appropriate size and shape for my yard, so I still have enough sunlight for veggies. Plus they bloom here in the summer when everything else is brown... I mean golden.
    Oh! you mean ingame? ;)
For EP... usually highest level XXL. After I reached level 90 I stopped thinking about that too much.
For drops... anything 12h that it can be harvested twice a day. That will give you better drops than 20h trees. I don't use turbo-mulch except during TREE mega EP day. And I'm usually too busy on those days to bother with putting the trees out ahead of time. I have always preferred long crops on small plots for drops.
For CC... rare tree du jour if I have it. Making lots of coins selling Eucalyptus right now.

When they first introduced Alchemy it was too much trouble to bother. My Alchemy sat at Level 1 until BP changed it. Then I leveled up in... two? 6? days. I currently have 66k moldy mandrake. If you don't have mandrake for recipes, try buying something and use it to level up. SOL is useful, as are A-buffs. There used to be a thread about which Artisan to bother with, which buffs are most useful, and whether it's worth the trouble to level up a Craft. My spa is the only one that isn't level 5 yet.
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy EOL & SOL, add PPP, grow bunches of flowers than manure. Before it expires plant your longest flower.
    Using round numbers 600 small plots * 500 /unit of manure = 300,000CC
You can probably buy EOL & SOL cheaper than 300k CC at times.
Or one can use manure w/ EOL & SOL.
Other A-buffs might be cheaper, veggies, grains.
Always, always, ALWAYS use water to speed up your crops during events like this, unless you won't be around to benefit from the time reduction.

Brookee, I've had similar thought about donations. It would require some If...then... programming which I don't see them bothering with. But it did seem to work that way in previous events where we needed to donate to get items necessary for progression.
I'm too cheap to buy those pots. I make newspaper pots and put a scoop of potting mix in it. Sunday paper used to be about an inch think. I stopped taking the paper and Sunday is about 3/8 inch thick now. You can buy newspaper at the $tore. Pick up some plastic shoe boxes to put them in. Don't use the slick ads, toxic ink. Use the B&W sections that are printed with soy based ink. In the past I wrapped it around a soda can and stuck two pieces of masking tape on it to hold it tog. This year I'm going to try using a folding method like Origami, no tape. I found instructions on Pinterest. Love the idea of succession planting. I have mammoth and MardiGras sunflowers to plant this year. I also bought some dahlias and peonies to put in large containers from Costco. Looks dry enough that I can finish that today. I'll move them around til I figure out where they are happiest and the cleanup is done. I found some of those quotes on Pinterest. I'm going to paint some signs for the garden. Plus "Ring bell. If no answer, pull weeds." I currently have two doorbells, Ring.com and one for hard of hearing. You'd be surprised how many people can't see either one and knock. I only know they're there if I'm looking out the window. LOL!

Hey, Decree! My animal trophy sat at 12% for a very long time because of the hassle of making critters and the cost of buying them. Not into animal husbandry, real or imagined. Then I was sitting around weak from chemo... bored... calculated EP/CC spent and bought cheap animals while I sold expensive ones for income. Crops used to be cheaper and easier to buy. I used trees for my Crop trophy. I've noticed that in the 3-4 years since I maxed out my trophies a lot of prices have escalated. Everyone needs to do their own math, refresh once a week. Use a spreadsheet for calculations, if you know how.
    Looking at your numbers...
    Koi pond: 32% time reduction
    Maple tree: 0% time reduction
Raspberries: 52% time reduction. Phenomenal! Plus the added bonus of being able to harvest 4 small plots instead of one large plot. Add manure and you can get three harvests a day. Add PPP, at least two plantings from the pair of A-buffs. Plus crops don't tie up the space as long as production pens.

I'm too lazy to harvest 3 times a day. Quite happy with my carnations, 18:54h w/ water, CR, GreenLove, Early Bloomer = 11:44h, 38% time reduction. w/o CR 13:01h, 32% time reduction. I'm sitting here waiting for Rose Hips to be added to the refinery... I plant Rose Hips and harvest once a day between events.

Now for an early lunch, then run outside and get my hands/gloves dirty.

They're nifty, but ultimately more of a money pit than an upgrade. I did a write up about it, you can find it here.

Thank you for posting this. I fully support this concept as well. I've tried to explain that it's not one specific crop that produces the most drops, it's just a matter of how the RNG works. It's also why I included a large list of crops I've used in the past.

So much info about refinement crops for drops since I read last. Who knew one could get a Masters in Cyber Botany? :p I usually just stick to my tried and true crop squares and raspberries for drops, but I'll read some of the previous posts more carefully. I'm all finished with this event, but maybe I could try something new next time. It would be great if this info could be compiled into its own thread for easy future reference and so that others can continue to ask questions or add thoughts on the subject. It will probably just get lost in this thread, and eventually end up in the archives.

Whew!! You all have generated so many thoughts (I wish I could answer each of you!), my head is spinning with them!! I'll have to let them sort themselves for a while!

Dear Poppyseed!! Your faith in my making it, and encouragement, have put a huge smile on my face, and in my heart!! :D:DThank yoooooou!!!!:D:inlove:

Mooboy, I have chosen a very special gift to thank you for inspiring the Challenge Post. - It truly did inspire me to finish - and to look at my farm a little differently. I hope this gift will, in turn, inspire you to look at things with a little bit different perspective on your farm, too.
This gift is one of several that have been the primary forces in building my farm from scratch, and has given me more CC's than anything else on my farm!
I would not part with it for any other reason than to expand your thoughts as you have mine.
    Yes - it is a.....Tree.

SuzeeRabbit, you're next, but I have to leave for a bit for the moment....and I'm looking forward to talking with you later!!;)
Just a quick note: The Menageries, etc., although they
are money pits initially - are really good during Events. They always give drops (for orange or better), lots of ep's, and many goods to sell for cc's.....all on a 2X2 plot. I use orange or higher pens as you get the equivalent of 8 base pens=32 1x1's, in one 2x2 plot! With pinks, it is the equivalent of (12 base pens x 4 squares ea.) =48 1x1's. And that is only with the basic # of 4 spaces. Apply that to Neons and it equals (16 base pens X 4 sq.'s ea.) =64 1X1's. They can be upgraded for more....

@Mooboy great info on roses, really helpful. But you forgot about the Sourdough Cake buff, it's also uses a silver slot & gives 10% EP boost. :p ( I know I often forget to use it xD)

@Decree lots & lots of great insight into the drop mechanism :wuerg:, you've given this very logical & well considered thought. 8) My own experience is that I get the same amount of drops from a field of 2x2's as 1x1's. I've been using refined raspberries over night for this event with fields set up with 1x1's using CAC for event crops (had harvester coupons available). With my 4 Howie Donuts, I've gotten between 110 - 120 each morning :). Finished growing event crops yesterday, still needed 140 drops to finish. Tore out 1x1's, put in 2x2's with refined raspberries, water & manure (needed less than 100, I had manure to sell rather than needing to buy ;)) so I wouldn't need to use harvester. Morning harvest gave 117 drops (not including the 4 gifts I received & the 3 I had left over from yesterday). :D Currently milling last 6 Potion Pots, waiting to harvest semi-refined roses (2x2's) for those last 17 drops still needed. Will finish event later today :D.

In the drop mechanism I don't believe BP differentiates between plots of 1x1's, 1x2's, & 2x2's, they are all given the same rate/% trigger as if they are all 1x1"s! The graphics of the game show most crops in 1x1 squares even when using 1x2 & 2x2 plots. The only difference is the number of seeds used and just like buffs don't affect the drop rate I don't believe number of seeds used does either.

As said many times crop duration & the number of times you can harvest are the most controllable factors in getting those drops! ;)Good luck everyone you still have 2 days to get that CR!
