One of my favorite aspects of Farmerama is setting goals and then strategizing how to go about achieving them.

My goals right now include filling my barns (you never know when an event will require 500 leeks or 4 chameleons...), completing the Cuckoo FSQs (anyone for an egg tree?),
opening the two last plots on the Crystal Falls Island, and opening lands in the Mushroom Forest(after all, real estate=success in the world of Farmerama).

The funny thing about these goals, however, is that I have needed to modify them over time. The longer I farm, the more that I learn and often times I realize that it is better to abandon one goal in favor of another. Sometimes, however, I learn too late! Gosh, I wish I had opened a confectionary rather than a bakery(CAC, need I say more?):sleepy:

So, my question for this thread is what are some of your favorite goals for your farm?:) And, how have you gone about achieving them? Do you have advice for lower level players about which things to work on first, and which to set aside for another day?

Finally, are there times which you went down one path (like my bakery) only to realize later that you wish you had taken another?

Health to you and Happy Farming.

Oh yes, I love setting goals, ticking them off the box. Done!
I tried to do spreadsheets but farmerama keeps adding so much it became a bit work-ish. Still I do love to plot and scheme what to do next. (and yes I still keep notes on that spreadsheet)

I bookmark the quests that I'm working at. How do I decide which one to work on ? Weeeeel, that's me straying from the garden path. I have days when I stroll down the lists, filling what I can fill without emptying my barn. Then when it looks almost done -ish and achievable I bookmark it. And start to work more methodically at it.

The ones that takes forever are the breeding quests. Breeding animals are way too expensive to buy on the market. And it takes so much pf to get anywhere. Product quests are also sort of a pain, but I chew on them, at least one Bahama and one Mainland. Soon done with the Bahama ones. My farm is about 1.5 year old (premium and 1 pf pack a month).

My favourites are crop quests, easy to do and can be done while doing events. I love events.

Right now I'm trying to level up the artisan village. Not doing it daily tho.
Quests: 1 rare animals, 1 crop, 3 products, 1 rare tree, and all Mushroom forest (but only last part left to open)

Silly things - hmm. Good questions. I think buying mystery stables/tree for real money. I've stopped. Not much point, sooner or later the rare ones will come to my farm. Some a lot slower than others of course.

If I were to start all over again I'd do the same (this is after all farm number 2)
    • Open all land as fast as possible
    • Open confectionery asap, work towards cac
    • Open Cloud row
    • Work on leveling up trophies and putting them in the Living Legend rune
    • Have fun and remembering it's the journey towards the goal that makes the fun in reaching the goal.
The last point is the most important one, and the one that I don't want to forget/ mess up. Everything else can be fixed with a little bit of time and patience.

Oh I do love talking about my farm and the quests, sadly my daughters don't share my excitement. Not much happens from day to day :D

Thanks, Moraine. Great advice. I tend to empty my barn to finish an FSQ. But, I certainly see the wisdom in your strategy. I always regret it when I don't have this or that animal, plant or product for an event.

It's not wisdom, it's the discomfort of being empty xD Being empty usually gives less option and thus limits my freedom of choice. And I like being able to do whatever I want whenever that idea falls into my head. Not always wise at all, sometimes it's downright stupid :p On the bright side, I'm never really broke, only in my mind.

Edit: And I never run out of toilet paper. That is good too

This is a great thread idea _Hollister_!!!!!!:D

Moraine is so wise in all her input!!! She is one of the most helpful and generous farmers in the game(although there are many!!) When I first started playing in early 2011, she helped me a ton by gifting me CAC's!!! I had also made the mistake of opening the bakery 1st...so was far, far away from being able to produce my own! Those were back in the good old days when we could use both CAC and PJ!!!!! :music: I'm still so thankful to Moraine and so many others for helping me understand this game!

Now, my goals are much different....and yes, they are changing all the time. As many know, I've reached 200 on main so am not chasing
EP's anymore. I also stopped doing FSQ's for the same reason. Whenever BP decides to add more levels, then I will go back and work on them.
I'm now focusing on TEP's and cc's!!! I usually set a goal of 500 million per time. I'm currently at 427 hundred million!!!! The last Monkey Queen event pushed me almost a 100 million in cc's for playing so many games(over 200). My current goal is 450,000,000. Of course I'll never be the market guru of some players....like my dear friend, broke. But it is a goal....and keeps me going in the game. My relationships with my neighbors and friends also keep me interested in the game. There are so many truly wonderful people who play!!!

I also have a terrible case of EFOCD!!! That is... I have to complete each event, get every CR, pet, new animal, new tree etc. Why??? I don't know? Once, I did skip a CR or giver that gave GB's and then much later asked 1 of my loyal nabs how many GB's he had. At that point, he had double the GB's I had....all b/c he got that giver or CR. o_O Arrgh!!! I have kicked myself for a long time about that. I believe it's 1 GB a week...but, after many years it adds up to a lot!:wuerg::p
I've said a few times, that I approach this game by the Boy Scout Motto...."Always be prepared." I always want to have enough things in my barn to complete any event or suprize BP throws at us. I never get to zero of anything.
One area I'm a nervous nellie is the Hoedown event each year. It is just too painful to toss so many valuable items into the bottomless pit for 1 CR or 1 giver....no matter how fabulous it is. Maybe I will try it this year, since I've been saving so many cc's? Who knows? :music:

Semper Paratus as they say in the Coast Guard. Always be prepared. I think that is my take away for the day. Both you and Moraine said the same thing and it's good advice. Level 200. Now that is something. I'm at level 89.

Setting goals is an important part of this game. I've got a couple of current goals I'm working towards but I admit I keep getting sidetracked by events and just basic maintenance. I want to complete the last step of the animal trophy so I can finish off that FSQ, I'm only about a quarter of the way there.

My other big goals are all connected to the Artisan trades. Basically I want to get all my trades up to level 5. I'm close on the confectioner's and midway on the spa. As for the others well at least I have them all up to 4 finally. There are a lot of other goals connected to this mostly involving growing all the products and crops needed to get me there. It's a very long road as the volume of products required is crazy. I just have to stay focused and not get drawn into donating any of them to FSQ's, which is harder than one would think.

Part of the Artisan goal is to get my workshops upgraded to red (pink is just to hard to fathom). I'm shooting for two of each. I've already managed two paints, two ostrich eggs, 3 rabbit shearing, 1 feather collecting and 1 sheep shearing. I've got eggs, honey, goat and cow milk covered via trees so I don't count those. It's become much harder to achieve with the way breeding has changed, still I hope to get there one day.

I don't want to think about starting again. xD I received so much help and great advice from my fellow farmers I don't think I made many "mistakes". Certainly nothing that I felt hurt me long term. One fantastic piece of advice was when I reached level 40 not to rush to open a trade. Instead I kept collecting drops from all the trades and stocking my barn for the future. In the meantime I looked at all the trades decided on confectioners and planned accordingly. I stocked up on the fruits and crops I would need so that when I did eventually open the trade I was able to get up and running very quickly. I pushed very hard to get to level 4 to obtain CAC and once I did well.....I got distracted. :p

I do sometimes think of opening a 2nd farm to experiment. Like just grow one crop at a time and see how far I can get just using the market. That mostly comes from Farmer Broke's influence though. One of these days I might have the time.

Besides the very evident benefit of CAC, what have you found most beneficial in your current progress with workshops? Thank you, LDcrow!

The benefit of workshops or the benefit of the trades? Not sure what you are asking. If it's the other trades then part of wanting to upgrade them is simply to do it. Makes me think of the question "Why do you climb a mountain?" and the answer is "because it's there".

Each trade does have beneficial crafting products although if I could only have one I would choose the confectionery followed by the florist.

Sorry about that, I meant trades. I just wondered what you find most useful of the crafting trade products you can make. I became frustrated after a couple of bakery levels and have not gone further.

Hollister, the bakery is a tough trade or at least I think so. You have to have so many products to get anywhere and there isn't a really big benefit to any of it. You might want to consider opening another trade instead. You really can't beat the confectioner's as far as the most useful items although you do have to buy the more useful recipes. The alchemist is also pretty useful but be prepared to use a ton of products and long term crops.

Hello! I'm still a newer farmer, but just could not resist adding 2 or 3 cents:) . About the 3rd thing I made a priority was the artisans and to get to the three that I enjoy in real life. I did, I opened my bakery, my jams, then my flower shop. Without reading a lot about them, I jumped in head first, (almost broke,) and couldn't wait to make gifts for everyone that has helped me along my journey:inlove: .
Boy was I in for a huge awakening, lol, (which would lead me to my 2nd priority) READING every bit of material I could find on farmingo_O . I am new, so I still enjoy almost every mistake :)wuerg:) I make, with an exception or two, but then someone begins a wonderful thread like this one where I can put my blinders back on, take a deep breath, and start dreaming all over again of future farm goals, and how to repair some of my failed onesxD:cry:

Florist has Valentine Pot & Church Bouquet also Terror Bouquet & Crypt Vase (recipes available in Jack's Shop) all very useful, and before level 5! :D For confectionary you need to buy many of the most desired recipes with BB's. You'll need a good supply of Products for the Florist and you'll want at least a couple of Honey trees for the Confectioner. Easter Marmalade & Sweet Rose Jam are very useful, just have a lot of preserving sugar in your barn. ;) Decide which trade products you use the most, which trade products you'll be able to keep up the ingredients with and which you can sell when needed for CC's / to help you level up. The higher the level of the Trade the more useful it becomes, it just takes so much to level up! :( Read the FAQ's for the Artisan's so you'll know what to expect! Good Luck.

My personal goals at the moment are for two FSQs that require Products:

Celeb's Table - need 1260 truffles altogether :wuerg: - I've done 5 of the tasks with a total of 250 truffles and have 122 in stock at the moment. I'm buying the crops from the shop every day, rather than market price which is ridiculous at the moment! This way I build up my truffle stock and the needed crops at the same time and hopefully, I'll be able to complete them in a timely manner.

At the same time, I'm also stocking up on sheep's wool for "The Big Shiver" which needs a total of 585 sheep's wool. I've done about half of the tasks here and only need another 355 (have 75 in stock). Need to buy fewer crops in the shop to complete the tasks so not too worried about this one... ;)

Just finished Trampled Under Foot (Peanut butter) FSQ :music::D so only have Just Hanging Out left to complete regarding the Product based FSQs which only require ONE specific product. (only need 47 more for that one)

After my two main focuses at the moment, I'll move over to Breakfast Banquet and Stony Night. Foliage Shortage I only need quills (which I don't have the workshop for, so I have to wait for market prices to go down) but other than that, all my Product based FSQs are complete.

After that, who knows... I'll probably focus on stocking up on supplies needed for higher levels.

:DHi, purplebeet again! I have a total of 8 furbabies this week that demand to go out at the same time- so I didn't get to what was my first and most exciting goal **** opening every plot of land possible to me at my level:) I was given exciting advice (cause that's the most integral part of the game;)) and while I'm sure the slower the pace, the less mistakes, but my OCD takes on a life of its own- as I look up farm pictures to get ideas (most of my friends do not have them available:() My main focus at this moment is getting as many stars from quests as possible to expand on available lands- and stock up on sugars and sweet flowers= in hopes of having a good home for my future hummingbird family:inlove:

With the prices of CAC I would say get that opened next... No matter being low on sugar and the fact you will have to spend BB's to get the recipes. Least you will have confectionery opened and you can level it whenever you choose.. Which if like me at the moment.. it will be soon as you harvest sugar...lol

You can also get recipes in some FSQ too. If you are a low level player.. or doesn't matter really... as it has been said, I would go through all them FSQ's and favorite the ones you want to do now and maybe the ones you will do after. I have noticed that when I get new quests the number stays there as long as I don't scroll or click on the new quests. Not sure but think scrolling alone will make the number go away You also wont need to scroll for event quests as they are always pinned at the top. So maybe this ideal will help you go through the list faster each time? or maybe help you keep them sorted? or however it can be used.. I just thought I would mention it. As I do this. But lately forgot to favorite some new ones... So I will have to go through them all again.

I cant think of anything to add at this time.. you asked which things to work on first... For one it has to suit your needs as a farmer. Some grow trees, animals, crops, or do workshops... ETC. But to do FSQ's I would do what is easy first.. Then tackle the others.. Maybe you can make coins in the market and just buy what you need to do a quest? Or save your coins and do them as you grow them. Maybe do both of these options.

Being a low level farmer, I would not suggest doing anything but stocking up and maybe sell some to make profit. Reason for this is, this way when a event comes... you wont have to buy at market, as prices will rise for the needed things for the event.. and therefore you will save tons of coins this way. If you get the machinery (a lot of FSQ's gives it,MAINLY the WORKSHOP quests) maybe grow tons of cress and sell at your market.. For some reason I been doing this lately and thought since i haven't in awhile with all I had to sell the prices would've went down in my market... but NO.. so that means I could've made way more money then I did. As I undercut by a lot. I needed coins badly and that's why I was in a rush to sell.

Don't forget to buy at the seed store and sell them on market for profit... what would be best is sell only half of what you buy at the seed store... that way you making money or least maybe break even and collecting crops at same time.. unless your breaking even then you are getting free crops. I would not buy all seeds. just a few pages..(as some crops will take time to sell and you don't want to run out of coins buying all seeds). or Unless you can buy all and sell all at a profit then go for it....So just take it slow do a few pages and see... then go from there and add a few pages...Best advice is TAKE it SLOW.. Can NOT rush in this game.

That's what I did, bought a lot of the products for the FSQs but with how the prices have shot up, even for goat milk and cow milk, it might be difficult for new players to buy them. Can anyone maybe point out the FSQs where egg trees are rewards, that might also be a good goal to set for new players (if not too difficult to obtain), sorry but I can't remember which it was off the top of my head...

I also 100% agree with your closing statements Jazac: "TAKE it SLOW.. Can NOT rush in this game."

    EDIT:
Forgot to mention that even now, with stocking up for my two main goals at the moment, I sell off some of the truffles and sheep's wool when I feel that I have enough to see me through the next few steps - which I still need to buy crops for on a daily basis from the store. Thus I also make a lot of CCs from those sales (ridiculous prices which are totally to my benefit :p)

Banjoman, I was just thinking the same thing. I learned so much from Broke and his thread on buying and selling. I do not however have the ability to pass that on. :p

It's important I think to remember that there are big long term hard to reach goals, short term easy goals and I often have daily goals. Those goals can also change as the game changes.

I've only been playing two years and one of the earliest long term goals I set for myself was in breeding. I wanted a piggy bank pig, that was the goal. So I breed pigs every single baby boom no matter what the event was actually for. I eventually forgot exactly why I wanted that piggy bank pig but I was programed to breeding pigs so I continued. To date I've still not got the pig the highest I've received is a flying pig. I left the game for awhile and when I came back I had to reevaluate where I was and what I was doing. I tracked down why I originally wanted that pig and it was for an FSQ (soup and friends). However since I now knew just exactly how hard it was to get a high level breeding animal no way would I give one up to an FSQ that was offering so little in return. Instead I looked at what I had and decided to build two red truffle farms. Which added much more to my overall game than that one pig ever would have. I also still have a large amount of orange and red level pigs (not to mention yellow) for future use. So while I didn't reach my initial goal all my hard work and enormous amounts of PF was not wasted. Where I ended up was better than where I started to go.
