    Game 6

Which of these math has the highest outcome and what's the outcome when you add them all up?

    1th) 7 * (3 + 3/7)
    2nd) 4 * 2/4 + 1/5 * 22 * 5
    3rd) (6 * 2 * 3 + 36) - 3 * 4 * 4
    4th) 6 / (1 - 3/4)
    5th) 1/8 * 4 * 4 * 6 * 2

foreverokc21, silim and SahraB like this.
  4. All numbers have an outcome of 24.
    Sum of all is 120.

    1th) 7 * (3 + 3/7) = 24
    2nd) 4 * 2/4 + 1/5 * 22 * 5 = 440
    3rd) (6 * 2 * 3 + 36) - 3 * 4 * 4 = 1,104 - Highest Outcome
    4th) 6 / (1 - 3/4) = 24
    5th) 1/8 * 4 * 4 * 6 * 2 = 24

    24 + 440 + 1,104+ 24 + 24 = 1,606

I think Xristos-ale3andros is correct - but at least I understood (sort of) what I was doing. I think there should have been brackets on 2nd and 3rd! :music:

If you want another math lesson illy :p then read on xD

The way calculations work is that some symbols take priority over others. Multiplication and division for instance take priority over addition and subtraction. What this means is when you have something like

    1+2*3,

then even though the + is the first symbol, the * takes priority and is calculated first, so it's calculated like this

    1+2*3 = 1+ (2*3) = 1 + 6 = 7.

If instead you want to calculate the + first, you need to put brackets:

    (1+2)*3 = 3*3 = 9.

So in 1+ (2*3) = 7, the bracket can be omitted to make things look less cluttered, while in (1+2)*3 = 9 you absolutely need the bracket there to show that you want to do the + first, even though * has priority.

In the puzzle, 4 * 2/4 + 1/5 * 22 * 5 = (4 * 2/4) + (1/5 * 22 * 5), but the brackets aren't necessary, because they only tell us to calculate the multiplications first, then add, but the multiplications take priority anyway so we don't need the brackets to tell us that.

    The third puzzle (6 * 2 * 3 + 36) - 3 * 4 * 4 = (6 * 2 * 3 + 36) - (3 * 4 * 4 ), but also 6 * 2 * 3 + 36 - 3 * 4 * 4 , no brackets are needed at all (although it is not wrong to put them there).

PS. Just in case it isn't clear by now, :p I do in fact teach mathematics :inlove:

Thanks for the tips, Mir! ;)

I might be able to take that on board for future puzzles - though I don't think I am any real competition so don't worry all you maths experts! xD

You are right! Here's the solution to Game #6:

    1th)
    3/7 = 0.4285
    (3 + 0.4285) = 3.4285
    7 * (3.4285) = 24

    2nd)
    2/4 = 0.5
    4 * 0.5 = 2
    1/5 = 0.2
    0.2 * 22 * 5 = 22
    2 + 22 = 24

    3rd)
    6 * 2 * 3 = 36
    36 + 36 = 72
    3 * 4 * 4 = 48
    72 - 48 = 24

    4th)
    3/4 = 0.25
    (1 - 0.25) = 0.75
    6 / (0.75) = 24

    5th)
    1/8 = 0.125
    4 * 4 * 6 * 2 = 192
    0.125 * 192 = 24

-> None of the math has the highest outcome, the outcome is the same on all: 24
    Totals: 24 + 24+ 24 + 24 + 24 = 120

    Game #7

    You are given the numbers: 75, 8, 2, 7, 2, 10
You are given the outcome: 273

Solve the puzzle, make a correct math, using any of the given numbers. Not all numbers need to be used if there's no need to.
Unless given out multiple times each number can only be used once. There's no restriction on the use of +, -, / ,*

Solve the puzzle by replacing the ? with the numbers 0 to 9, using each number once.

    (((? * ?) - (? / ?) + (? - ?)) / (? - ?)) * ?? = 200

    This puzzle has multiple solutions!

    Solution to game #8

A solution I came up with:

    (((9*7) - (8/2) + (5-4)) / (6-3)) * 10 = 200

    0123456789

    (9*7) = 63 > (7*9 is fine too)
    63 - (4) = 59
    59 + (1) = 60
    60 / (3) = 20
    20 * 10 = 200
