Tool Box - which to choose

Dear fellow farmers, seeking some advice, please. My Season/FS crate orders are calling for parrot feathers. I am lacking (for a long time) the needed feather collector/FC to build a workshop. I am thinking to use some of my Farm/Orange coins to buy a tool box, but from what I can tell, there is no guarantee the feather collector will be in any size box. What would you suggest:
XL box/25 coins
2XL box/100 coins
3XL box/200 coins
I don't want to use more than 200 coins as I'm saving to open the second area in CF. Personally, I don't think I'll get a FC in an XL box, as I've received many as rewards, and several 2XL - including two from the Tree of Wisdom, and all lack the FC. What would you do? Thanks

 

It is just luck, where you get it from. I tested and I got no feather collectors opening 100 tools, none from 100 toolboxes, none from 100 XL boxes, 13 Feather collectors from 100 XXL boxes and 11 Feather collectors from 100 3XL:s.

If you have any Baha Wonder stables, you may get a coloured Feather Station from there.

 

None of them. Maybe you can refine the roses in the greenhouse.

If you have refined the roses, it is possible to get many feather collectors. I don't know at what level you are. There are other plants that will be refined to get feather collectors.

But if I were below level 100, I would choose to refine the roses. The greenhouse is here.

 

Thank you, I am lvl 93 in main and 203 in Baha. I've never heard of refining roses and never tried the green house. I'll take a look. And also search the quest...but I'm thinking that without thinking, I may have won and used a feather collector to fill a Season order. Further research is needed!

Baha Wonder stables from events is where I got my two Parrot Collection Station II : Orange from. Apart from that I do not recall where the actual collectors that are in my barn came from - more than likely long time crops on main.

yes, rose is the first plant you will encounter that can be refined to give you a feather collector, you will then get a couple of feather collectors per field of roses and you will be inundated with the things before you know it.
then raspberries and aubretia can be refined to give the feather collector. same for the wooden mallet you will need for elephant stable upgrades etc, just refine asparagus.

Is there anything you can do that results in bonuses that affect all crops, and not just the one in the refinery/greenhouse? The FAQ is old and not very clear on why it should be done.

 

The only things I know of are Artisan Products, Cloud Rows, and the Buff bonuses (from places like farm wheel).

As for why you would like to refine plants.

Wooden Mallets are a great place to start. I refined Irises last month specifically for that refinement. Now that I have it activated, every time I harvest Irises I have a 1000x increased chance of receiving a Wooden Mallet as a drop item. I got REALLY lucky on Monday and received 4 mallets from harvesting 160 1x1 fields. Not everything has that high of an increased drop chance. There are also other refinements that could be used well. I just saw a Barley refinement that said that you received a 50% increase in the number of seeds received when you used SSG on it.

There are several plants that have an improved SG bonus. I do not remember which one, but one boasted a 25% increased effectiveness when you used SG on it. If this was combined with a 3% time reduction refinement and a white innocense and the tree rune unlocked and maybe a fruit cake thrown in and you could be looking at a 83% + time reduction before water and manure. Also since barley is what 18-19hr crop, the drop rate should be great especially for event items.

Some refinements will just give you reduced growing times or more EP when you harvest it.

I am currently refining Globe Berries to increase my chances of getting boards (only 10x increase). I need about 30,000 boards to finish unlocking the menagerie expansions.

 

One big reason for refining plants is instant crops (100% time reduction). It gives event drops, when needed, if they come from crops. It requires SG love and other bonuses (including cloud row). Big comfort fields, super grow and crops are ready instantly.
