I'm in the Central Florida area on the east coast. Today it's gray, gloomy and windy. The temp is 72f/22c and the winds are blowing at 15 mph.
We have had a lot of rain this year so that has caused some issues with sink holes. Our biggest weather problem is hurricanes but we have been very lucky not to have had any bad ones in quite a few years.
The old timers from here have a saying about our weather: If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and cross the road. xD

Did anyone happen to see the moon last night? I saw it as it came up over the Atlantic Ocean....just beautiful.

I didn't see it yesterday but on Friday. It was so beautiful and I like so much seeing the woods and the sea under the moon's light!
Was it last night or Friday full moon?

solotime the picture is amazing! I think I can stare it for hours!:music:
What's the name of the left tree with the red leafs?

Hehe, you got the wrong person, I'm from Pennsylvania.

@Airelh, I'm not so good with naming the trees but I think it's some type of oak?

Night is falling. Taking a short walk after a bowl of yummy soup.I hear we are going to get cooler as the week progresses.
A Florida winter consist of slacks and possible sweater. May even put on a pair of boots to kick the coconuts around.
    What fun we will have;)

Yep, that's right solo. I have a huge oak tree in my backyard and it's always the last one with leaves even after some snow has fallen.

It's summer here now and unfortunately it's been cold and cloudy for the past few days (you would think it's highly odd for an Australian summer, but summer doesn't usually kick in until late December and continues through most of March). Although, in my state, it was quite hot a week or so ago, around 28 degrees Celcius (not as hot as we usually reach by February, but hot still).
This was quite a while but thought I should share the story: A number of months ago (June) we had a major storm and during the night the neighbour's tree fell on, and smashed through, our roof. We had a tarp up until August when the roof finally got fixed. The fence on the other hand is still to be fixed, and the council's just been to check out the tree only to say there's "nothing wrong with it" and it "can't come down"...

oh what happened would have been terrifying! Where you inside the house when the tree fall on your roof?

Yes, we were - it happened in the middle of the night, so we were all in bed asleep. It actually landed on the roof of the room right next to my brother's bedroom - and yet he was the only one not to wake up with the crash! Thankfully, whilst fence was broken, the washing line mangled and the corner of the house both bent out of shape and missing all it's tiles, the inside ceiling was not too damaged, only a bit of the tree came through. It was mostly just resting on the house once it broke through a bit. Unfortunately it meant lots of plaster falling on my brother's drum kit, but nothing that couldn't be salvaged.

    8) Well, after reading all these wonderful, scary (glad everyone is alright!), informative posts, my weather - right now - seems quite boring! Yet, as all things in the natural world, it has its own soothing, peaceful beauty.
It has turned cold - 20's - low 40's, with a nighttime mix of freezing rain and scattered snow flakes. Right now it's a quiet, gray day with slow, soft rain...the very peaceful, steady kind that that makes you think of snuggly warm blankets and hot chocolate...and not doing a single other thing but watching the rain fall, lulled by the intermittent drip drip drip of water on glass.
This is supposed to continue for two or three days.......mmmmmm - hope I have enough hot drinks to make it through the lazy, soft torpor that has come with this weather!:sleepy::inlove:;)

Tonight the weather people claim a winter storm o_O

It was supposed to be in the Morning but I guess the weather was tired today? xD
If we get the snow, I'll take some pictures!

Might get 3 to 8 inches.

I'm curious: who/what is the "council"?
I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but as long as everyone is ok (that is most important) the rest can be fixed. The tarps sound like hurricane season here, especially after Ike; we stared at those blue tarps 1 1/2 years. The insurance companies really have to do a better job and from the sound of it so does your "council".

Like the local council. I'm not quite sure what the equivalent would be in your country. A county council, maybe? Anyway, the people who sort of run local regions. Not like local government, I don't think, but people who are responsible for land and building and stuff. The people you have to get permission from to build on properties, add extra storeys to houses, move fence lines, things like that. And in this case, permission to remove major trees from properties that are there naturally (as opposed to planted by the owner).

Thank you squigglegiggle. That would be our County Permits Office, however trees are not an issue (whether natural or planted). We don't have to have permits or permission but it's making sure there is insurance to cover any damages if it is not removed safely (usually done by a contractor that is licensed and bonded; they are fully insured).

Outside of that, I hope you and your family are doing okay. Christmas is just around the corner!

squiggle, glad you and yours came thru that fine. Sounds like a nightmare to me. I remember one time my family had a large branch come off a tree and through a window. That was scary. We were home but no one was in the room at the time. Messy. Not nearly as bad as what you went thru.

We have a storm coming in on Thurs, maybe 36h from now. They're really talking it up. Making me nervous. It will probably be the worst in 6y. Blizzard in the Sierras. 2-4 in of rain down here. Looks like it will start about daylight. I have an appt that can't be rescheduled. I will be leaving the hospital about the time the heaviest rain will start. I was planning on going grocery shopping after. Guess I best get home instead. Grocery will have to wait until next week when it's dry.

In CA we can cut down trees on our property except for a few. Live oaks, for one, cannot be cut down without a permit. I'm not sure but I think the city or county regulates that.

    8) Suzee, so sorry to hear about the things you are going through. Prayers will be with you, not only for the hospital visit, but the rain difficulties, too.:(:inlove: Hoping you will be feeling better.:inlove: Will your weather clear up soon, do you think??

The weather here in MA is quite different. Some people, like me, will love it, and those that have to be out in it probably will not. It is snowing. Woke up this morning to a white winter wonderland - and it truly looks like another world. Everything is all white - trees, ground, sky...even the air since it is filled with softly falling whiteness! There is something about snow - I think it's the extra oxygenated air, that makes you want to go out in it just to take a deep breath. It has a clean, fresh, purity - a rich, fresh smell that I love.:inlove:
Oh - I just had a visitor who's been out driving in it this morning. He said the ice we've had has melted off....because "the snow is 'WARMING' it up." Just the opposite of what you might think! And he said it was just gorgeous everywhere, all white, everything is white! Then we talked about Antarctica and how it actually gets so cold that snow is not even able to form! I did not ever think of that!! He left me laughing, saying "Antarctica was one place he NEVER wanted to go!" I second that feeling!!xD
Anyway, it's in the 30'sF daytime, and lows 22 - 28F; and by Sat. and Sun. it is supposed to be sunshiney and beautiful, mid to upper 30'sF.
(*sigh*) I just :inlove: living here....:)
