Welcome all ya'll to the Marvel-ous (pun-intended):pMovies thread.

In this thread everyone can talk about, all the newest movies coming out, or talk about their favorites, or really just anything on the topic of "movies" in general.

I would even like to hear some "way-back" stories if you know what I mean ;)

Do enjoy... oh and to start this off here is the "starter-question"...

Who here as seen any of the Marvel Movies, and... most recently...

the NEW Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Warning: if you have seen the movie, please do not talk about the plot or any such thing that as they will be "spoilers" and I myself having NOT seen it yet :( do not want to know anything other than if it was awesome, good, eh, or blah.

Well I have not seen any of the Avengers movies. This is in spite of being a HUGE Joss Whedon fan.

On the other hand, I loved Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now if the powers that be at the studio would cast Nathan Fillion as one of the super heroes in his next Avengers film, I'd be first in line for tickets on opening day. Wondering though if he's gotten too old...oh wait. Robert Downey Jr. isn't exactly young any more, is he?

Now from the clues given above can you tell what my all-time favorite movie and tv series is?

Hey Sewinglady, I see Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion in your post and what comes to mind? Dr Horrible's sing-a-long blog! I'm a huge fan of that. If you have no idea what I'm talking about then do a youtube search, it's in 3 parts and totally fantastic.

The last movie my hubby & I saw in a theater was "Monkey Kingdom". It was wonderful...and I would highly recommend it!:D

I just re-watched "Becoming Jane" the other day. If you are a Jane Austen fan...you will love it!:music:

Ya that's understandable, however to be quite honest... Guardians of the Galaxy was not AS good as I had thought. It had quite a bit of language and a whole lot of fighting and blowing-UP... the plot wasn't to particularly strong either so over-all not as good as I had hoped it would turn out.

I've seen Dr. Horrible. They made that during that strike a few years ago. Was so silly and fun! And, while I love Castle, LabMommy, it's not my favorite, but you are warm, very warm...

Ah yes, but there was Groot.

I kind of had to forgive the plot holes and the rest and just enjoy it for the fun and somewhat silly movie it is. Actually, every time I see Lee Pace in it, I giggle because I can see him in his role in Halt & Catch Fire...in that silly blue make-up over-acting and all.

Oh wow, will definitely will look into it, and Jane Austen, sounds familiar... she wrote the book "Pride and Prejudice" didn't she?

Castle? Never heard about it, mind telling me more about it? :D

BINGO! The winner is Clashstrummer! Castle is on ABC and it's lasted much longer than Firefly - just wrapped season 7. Nathan Fillion plays a millionaire mystery writer. It's okay, but sometimes it goes into the realm of stupid and it's hard for me to watch him play stupid/childlike.

Wow, sounds interesting, honestly the only shows I watch on ABC nowadays are the "Shark Tank", and some of the latest "Dancing with the Stars" shows. I actually had watched the entire "Agents of Shield" season 1 on there as well, and watching a few of the "Agent Carter"... all great shows, however Agents of Shield did get a bit weird after a while.

Love, love, love the Marvel movies - always root for Loki, so gutted his part was cut from the new Avengers.

Aye I know right, and aye that's understandable but you gotta admit, it was time for a new villain... I mean the Avengers can't just be fighting Loki only the entire time right? That would make things dull and boring, wouldn't you agree?

I enjoyed that movie, pure speculation of course as very little is actually known about the real Jane Austen's life. I'm a huge fan but stay away from the "Hollywood" versions of her work. I like the BBC stuff much more and there is nothing better than a Pride and Prejudice viewing marathon. Colin Firth...need I say more? :inlove:

One big exception on the Hollywood films is Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson. That is a fabulous movie and a great cast. The remake of P&P with Keira Knightly is horrific. :wuerg:

JioCash - yes Pride & Prejudice, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, Northhanger Abbey, and Mansfield Park were all written by Jane Austen.
LDCrow - I wholeheartily agree! :DThe BBC version of P & P is the absolute best(long as a marathon...but well worth it!!!)!!!! I'm a huge fan of Colin Firth!!!:inlove: And yes....Emma Thompson won an academy award for her screenplay for her version of Sense & Sensibility!

Is this the same Loki that is in the Thor movies? If it is, I see the attraction. I watched that most recent Thor movie on HBO or one of those channels not too long ago...

I went to a communications college so I've taken quite a few film classes and am a major old film fan. So my taste in movies is not the norm or mainstream. I am incredibly squeamish in RL, as in faint at the sight of blood level of squeamish. I'm also a major chicken so I avoid horror, action and overly graphically violent movies, which unfortunately seems to cover most of what comes out of Hollywood these days.
Now comes the crazy part....two of my favorite directors are Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino. xDxD

Hitchcock directed more thrillers than just straight up scary movies although Psycho is in a class all by itself. (I have had clear and see through shower curtains my entire life due to this movie.)

Tarantino though falls into all of the things that I normally avoid. It's probably due to the amount of humor he also uses that I can watch them. I have not been able to see Django Unchained though as I just think it will be to much for me. He is just a brilliant film maker and surrounds himself with really talented actors. I will admit I only see his films once as I don't relish a second helping of gore.

I like a lot of foreign films as well (I use foreign as a general term I realize that to some US movies are the foreign ones) but will only watch subtitled movies. I will not watch anything that's been dubbed. It ruins the movie for me as the voices are never correct and the whole lips moving out of sequence thing makes me crazy. I also think it alters the power of the movie itself to not hear the dialog spoken in the original actors voice.

I remember seeing Wings of Desire when I was in college and it was so beautiful and the dialog, what there was of it, was poetry. There was a cadence to the German that blended so amazingly into the pacing of the film. Truly a work of art. They then put out a dubbed version and I took a friend to see it not realizing that it was dubbed and it was horrible. It literally ruined the movie as the timing and pace of the movie were completely off.

Oh I do agree with all the BBC Jane Austen stuff. I enjoy a lot of the programming we get in the States that originates from the BBC. The updated version of Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch was amazingly good.

If anyone knows who Howard Hawks, John Ford or Billy Wilder were they are also on my list of favorite directors.

Aye I totally can agree with you on that one pal, can you believe the rate of horror movies coming out this year alone? It's horror-ible, I am a visual type learner type guy, and I myself can't stand blood and gore :wuerg: or frightening scenes ... so that's perfectly understandable...

just out of curiosity... you mentioned BBC, didn't they host the show "Downton Abbey"?

Yes he is the same, Tom Hiddleston (as he's call irl) does a pretty good Loki, he is also rumored to be one of the main actors for the new king Kong movie that will come out next year or so, and if you ever have seen the movie War Horse (based off the book) he was also one of the officers in that movie.

While he isn't particularly one of my favorite actors, he still is fairly good for being yet another "British" villain.
