Yes, it is shown on PBS in the States along with many other BBC productions mostly on the show Masterpiece.

We (DH and I) watch a lot of shows on BBC in America. DH is having a huge fit over the canning of Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear. I kind of saw it coming. The man does have quite the temper.

Anyway, I am an old movie nut, too! Had this boyfriend in college who loved old movies and there was this old theatre in Charleston that showed classic stuff on the weekends. So he took me to see things like The 39 Steps, Strangers on a Train, The Man Who Knew too Much and other Hitchcock classics from the days before Psycho. One of my favorites is The Trouble with Harry. I didn't see that until years later. That theatre also did marathons of old sci-fi movies from the 50's - like the one with the big spider and the blobby aliens. Can't remember the names, but it made for some good times. Then there was Saturday night's weekly midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We dressed up. We danced in the aisles. A grand time was had. Sadly, those days are long gone.

One of my favorite shows from the BBC is Wire in the Blood. So very good. And I really enjoyed Idris Elba in Luther. Wow. Also the BBC production of Life on Mars was so much better than the US version.

I have an old movie on my DVR right now...haven't watched it yet. It is a WWII movie called Cry Havoc. One of these nights when I can't sleep...

I like Tarentino quite a lot as well. I think my favorite of his is Jackie Brown. But, I have seen Pulp Fiction more times than I can count, too.

I will watch action/war/suspense movies but I do not watch outright horror films. Okay, I watched Slither. Because 'you know who' was in it and James Gunn directed (hence the likely reason I thought Guardians wasn't so bad). Oh you gotta be kidding me. DH's tv is loud enough I can hear it and right this minute guess what he's watching? Guardians of the Galaxy.

Anyway, no horror for me. ick poo. None of those awful Saw movies or demons and the rest.

Aye that all sounds great, although I haven't heard of many of those... and totally understand how "those days" are long gone. I myself like "older" shows, but the type of old I am thinking about probably is a totally different kind then what you speak of. Some of the top favorite tv shows I love to watch include...

    1. Remington Steele (1982)
    2. A-Team (1983)
    3. Star Trek (1966)
    4. Knight Rider (1982)
    5. Hercule Poirot (1989)

just to name a few of the my top favorites although not necessarily in that order. :D

I grew up on the original Star Trek. Of course, DH and I being big sci-fi nuts and all around geeks are Trekkies. Not as much as some of our friends, but still. Okay, we have friends who went to Vegas on their honeymoon and he being a Trekkie took the new bride to the Star Trek experience. She rolls her eyes when she tells the tale and I'm just green with envy. But wait! Other friends can top that! My best friend from high school and her husband renewed their vows on their 10th anniversary in uniform on the bridge of the Enterprise (Next Gen) at the same place. Of course, it's closed down now and it doesn't matter because my husband is still "in the closet" - he doesn't like anyone to know he's a big Trekkie geek. o_Ops. I spilled the beans.

There are a couple movies that we quote lines from all the time. #1 is The Princess Bride. #2 is Young Frankenstein.

Princess Bride is my #1 top favorite, movie EVER... I know that movie inside and out... tis the best of ALL TIME. (Yes sorry that is my totally biased opinion) but still... awesome awesome AWESOME :D :D :D

Hey I think I've got you guys on this one. I have a Princess Bride card/board game! It's quite fun but also sort of complicated. I'm always Inigo Montoya when I play, it is only a 4 person game though. *cough* geek much?

I've seen my share of Star Trek, never been a Trekkie myself. I sublet a room for the summer back in college with 2 guys that were literally the biggest Trekkies ever. The first time I saw Big Bang theory it was like turning back the clock. xD

Love "The trouble with Harry", that was Shirley Maclaines first film roll.

There are a few movies that others do not like to watch with me because I can literally talk along with them word for word although I try not to. Young Frankenstein, Princess Bride and the Blues Brothers would be those movies.

I do not count westerns as action films although I probably should. I've seen pretty much every John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and James Stewart western ever made. My father was a huge fan and we watched all of those when I was growing up.

Favorite old movie series would be "The Thin Man" series, William Powell and Myrna Loy. Both of them just brilliant, a good time had by all, although I'm not sure how mysterious they are.

Myrna Loy is from Helena, MT. We have an elementary school here in Great Falls that is named after her, too. Those movies just harken back to a much different time. I know many people would like to turn back the clock, but I'm not one of them. Not that I don't love the old movies and love watching things from those times, but I don't believe we can put it all back in "Pandora's box"...KWIM?

Oh I wouldn't want to turn back the clock either but it's fun to watch old movies. Not everyone enjoys them and some of the behavior, while appropriate for the time frame, would not go over so well now. There was talk at one point of a Thin Man remake and I just do not see how you could do it with any type of success. The main character is a total lush and spends most of the movie drunk, on his way to being drunk or hungover. It's funny in the time frame but wouldn't be now that's for certain.

There was a bad attempt at a remake of "The Women" a while back. Now the original was very ground breaking in the fact that is had a completely female cast. No man is ever seen only talked about. The subject matter for the time was a kind of female empowerment, but not in this day and age it's not. The original is well worth a watch as it's a virtual star studded cast of great woman actors of the 30's. The remake is a disaster that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The basic original plot has the main lead discovering that her husband is having an affair with a younger woman. The younger woman is a gold digger of course and is simply out to get a meal ticket. The wife divorces him, and there is a very funny bit all set in Reno for this part, and in the end her empowerment so to speak is winning him back from the gold digger. Not a plot that would work in this day and age, but it does work in that time frame and you find yourself rooting for her.

Ah yes John Wayne, those are always fun to watch, I think my top favorites movies he did were "Hitari" and "Mcclintock", oh and of course... "True Grit".

Other good o'l westerns I enjoy include the "Lone Ranger" and a personal favorite, "Bonanza". This next title may not be an o'l movie but it's also really fun to watch and stars James Garner, Mel Gibson, and Jodie Foster, in the movie "Maverick". Of course there is also this much older show that is called "The Sting" (1973), now there's a good movie.

Sewinglady - for film, would Serenity be your fave? Oh, and of course, Nathan was in Buffy: a very cool villain.
As for Castle, it drives me crazy - if Javier walks in when Kate says "we have nothing" or some such, with "Yo! I just found... blah blah blah" I will shoot somebody. As for ABC, I would love to shoot all the execs for cancelling FOREVER, and if you haven't seen that SL, you really should. I am sure you'd love it!

I'm with you on the cancelling of Forever - I loved that show! In fact, in many ways, it was so much better than Castle. Did you hear that Nathan signed on for season 8, but the head writer quit? This could be a good thing...or not. Things could get worse. I haven't watched the season finale of Castle yet, it's still on the DVR waiting. I don't know if I can face another cliffhanger.

And yes, Serenity is my favorite movie of all time. I was never a Buffy fan, so I've never seen him play evil. I would like to watch him in an episode or two, just to see how he handled that role.

As for old action movies - the other night I watched The Naked Jungle with Charlton Heston. Wow...lots of stuff in that movie that wouldn't pass muster these days. Although, must admit, he was ruggedly hansome (to borrow a line from Castle) in his younger days.

Ah... yes Chartlon Heston is a good actor, my two favorites of his are "Ben-Hur", and the "Ten Commandments".

Soilent Green, The Omega Man and The Planet of the Apes...the 3 best Charlton Heston movies IMO. "The Sting" is a true classic and so is "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".

Paul Newman was always one of my favorite actors with Long Hot Summer and Cool Hand Luke being two of my favorites that not everyone has seen.

Well as a child of the 80s I clearly have no culture and love Lethal Weapon and Die Hard - all of them, preferably in a marathon!
@sewinglady I am joining your husband in having a fit over Clarkson and Top Gear, my Sunday nights are soooooooooooo boring.

I rarely watch movies now(I do in summer because I have time). I watch series more often.
The last movie I watched was "The hunger games".
