P&P it happens very infrequently (only when babies are stressed - in this case weaning) and you have to be pretty close to hear it.. They are VERY quiet creatures, usually... :)

I purchased a 40 inch inflatable ball and cover for the babies to play with... so far they are ignoring it. :( So much for their previous "Match of the Day" footage with a small ball....

Hopefully they will start showing interest soon as it cost a fortune (luckily hubby doesn't see these posts) and was a devil to pump up with a hand pump![IMG]

LOL xDxD BohoKaren.....if they are anything like my kids...they'll like the box it came in better!!! :eek:Lotte is a doll.....but Hector, Oh my, is he ever handsome!!!;) The thing I've been noticing about your reindeer(never really seeing them before yours) are how slender their legs are. Do they tend to be fragile???....especially in the full grown reindeer???

Their legs may look slender... but I may bore you with YET MORE facts!!! They are incredibly designed - their build allows them to travel up to 50 MPH (top speed) but they can travel over massive distances at less - they have a really unusual elevated gait at the trot that conserves energy. They also swim at 5mph with their huge hooves.. :)
Will try sometime to add footage of their elevated gait sometime ..but usually only happens when they are slightly stressed and need to cover ground quite quickly... Might take some time as they are usually quite calm...

Thanks BoHoKaren for the interesting facts!:D I had no idea how quick reindeer are o_O....and good swimmers! Wow! Amazing animals!!!
No wonder Santa uses them to pull his sleigh!:music: At Christmas time ....I'm going to have to call you HoHoKaren....b/c of being a reindeer expert! LOLxDxDxD

Now this doesn't show the elevated trot as Katya was just having a mad moment but it shows some of her paces (and stupid antics). Video taken this morning - have been battling with it for hours (editing it and adding music) and FB wouldn't let me publish with music!!! As previously stated (I can be a techn numpty - so everything takes me ages)!!! Hope you enjoy her fun, even though not the best of footage! :(

Great video of Katya! :D Problem is you can't just watch one video; Boris with the apple raid was so cute! However I do have a question - just how many reindeer can fit through the shed door at feeding time?:p

Willow that's getting to be a serious problem... or at least for the future as 3 adult girls are now in a separate paddock (getting ready for the rut) - 2 of which are feed store bargers, Boris has always been BUT Hector and Lotte (tiny as of now) are also coming in... I am dreading the herd being back together --- there just isn't room for 5 big reindeer and me!!! It's already got messy at times with 3 big ones helping with food prep!!! :(

Hector has outgrown his pretty baby head collar - he is wearing a leather one until his new custom made one arrives for Christmas (my supplier is not well at the moment- fingers crossed she will feel better soon)

@BoHoKaren, Hector is so cute in your last picture:inlove:
It makes me wonder, do all reindeers have dark eyes?

Their eye are dark in the summer, in the winter they are more pale, adapted to find food under many feet of snow.. not a worry for them in the UK..

Today Boris has fallen out with me.... After many weeks of a surprisingly dry summer, the rains have come... we cut the paddocks and the grass/clover has grown beyond... good, BUT Boris has over indulged.. He had serious squits this morning. So I have had to confine him in pen with only dry hay, straw.. until his rumen is working correctly... HE IS NOT HAPPY with me!!! And Reindeer really sulk!!

Yes...poor Boris!:( He even seems to be pouting...hanging head low. It's too bad we can't explain to our animals why they can't have all the food they want.
Of course, I Have been told..........but I still do not like it!!:sleepy: LOLxDxD

Boris is fine now P&P... only 24 hours on limited rations and tummy back to normal... but he's on a warning! ;)

Hope you might like these photos - Hector, (food store raider "in training") thinks he can get past the padlocks too...

Finally got the health check/insurance sorted & picked up my "Rent a Bull" Monty for the rut today - he's gorgeous. Silver grey with a spotty face, big hopes for stunning babies again next year. :)

He's only 16 months but very well grown for his age so I'm sure he'll like the ladies.
