Indeed a handsome fellow!:inlove: I'm sure your ladies will be thrilled.

What color is dominant in reindeer breeding?

Monty is stunning!!! Good luck with the rut.
However, how could you possibly have a cuter baby than Hector?:p;)

He is handsome. :inlove: It looks like he has already stripped his velvet, is he early or just over anxious.

Is there an adjustment period since he is not part of the herd and a newcomer? I know things could be a little hectic when new animals came in before they all got to know each other and settled down. Does he automatically just go in with the rest of the herd or is he kept separate so they can see each other first?

Do you have first date jitters? xDxDxD

So many good questions to answer :( If he was older his antler strip would be late.. (Boris at same age and when entire stripped on 30th July ...but never seen any do that as early since).
Dominant colour appears to be brown.
P&P was expecting a boxing match with Mischa (hind legs, chest to chest and punching) but it didn't happen... maybe stress will turn up a notch tomorrow BUT today all went well... :) And oh boy in a way not hoping for babies as if they are all like hector will not e able to sell any... :)

PS could someone just post something tonight or I can't do an update tomorrow as I have replied tonight and can't post a good update tomorrow otherwise;) And hopefully good footage for rut shortly....

I was hoping to post exciting but all I can say is Monty (Rent a Bull) is lovely... so far, but not really interested in girls.. We missed Katya's first cycle but she will "try" again.
All the girls seem to have accepted him... What really worries me is how tight his head collar is.... owners say it is coat... agree coat gets silly now but would love to loosen that head collar but not possible once a bull goes into rut unless you are prepared to be kebabed!

I agree, collar looks tight but then, I always err on the side of a bit loose on all my animals. Lets hope that it is leather and will break if too tight for breathing. (I'd rather have a live animal without a collar even with all the problems that may occur than a dead one because the collar choked them. After all, it's not as if you want to use it right now.)

Good photo of Monty:) Will he be aggressive the entire season? Or will he have calm moments? If you tempt him with some yummy treats, will he let you loosen his collar? Is his winter coat in completely? If not, his collar will only get tighter as the coat gets thicker. Since he is a neighboring reindeer, perhaps his owner will come and loosen it? I'm sure it is a relief that your herd has accepted him.

Monty is a very laid back boy (so far) for a rutting bull but the good news, signs of a Flehmen Response (missed the real lip curl) and he started challenging Boris through the fence... but Boris wasn't interested... (2 years ago Boris would have ripped the fence down for a punch up during the rut!!!)

So Flehmen response means he's responsive to breeding? Look how nice & well behaved Boris is!! ;)
Looking so forward to more adorable babies!!!:D

She piddled, he sniffed.... lip curls to fully taste/smell pheromones... It's promising that he's thinking and her hormones may be becoming more interesting... Just early signs that all is looking good...
I am still venturing into his paddock as he is still quite calm... but watching for all signs that I may need to become the "road runner"!!! ;)

P&P - once he is in full rut, any day now, he will be dangerous 24/7 until he comes out of rut. Mailed his owners on Thursday, they are about 2 hours away but still no response :( Head collar is leather, so it will stretch but I am not happy with it... :(

Maybe the tight head collar is what is slowing his interest - kind of "not now, I've got a headache"!
    :inlove:Love the photos!

Mischa has been very busy this morning - stripped all her velvet in one go but she hasn't got rid of the dreadlocks yet![IMG]

And picture two is of my surprise find under a couple of fence posts I picked up in order to do repairs (shocked me as much as this tiny baby), it was hiding and am guessing mother and sibblings are under my round hay bales.. Have plenty of wild rabbits - this could be a true albino but am guessing it is the offspring of a pet rabbit that has been dumped in kit??? Time will tell once they are a little older and come out to graze.[IMG][IMG]
