I love the handsome Hectors crimbo collar! That beautiful close up just makes me want to run my hands through his coat .

If you fancy giving a girl from 'oop norrrth' () some work experience with those gorgeous creatures of yours I'd be extremely happy to come and muck in in exchange for your knowledge and of course to get up close to these beautiful reindeers of yours!

 

I agree with Willow, I too would love to see them at Christmas time all decked out with their bells and ribbons And as fifi said Hectors fur just looks so soft and cuddlie You want to run your finders through it!

 

You are very welcome to come to visit but we are way to small to employ helpers, but you are very welcome to come and cuddle/visit/learn/experience etc etc...

 

Oh no I wasn't haggling for a job lol, just the possibility of work experience type thing. It would depend on timing/money/travel/catsitting organisation from my end but if I know you would be willing to offer some work experience, even if just for a day or two, that would be some wonderful, and quite unusual experience for me! Would be so cool to actually meet these beauties properly and it's more experience to help me along the way with my degree!

 

Hi Fifi, I am sure we could sort something but not sure when either as at the moment only Boris and the babies are accessible due to the rut, then I go into silly Xmas season. Maybe calving in the Spring???

Christmas finest... I am still waiting for Lotte and Hector's made to measure red head collars and I can't get access to Mischa and Katya to try their outfits on yet as they are still in the rutting paddock... but could try Boris' on to make sure it still fits (his waistline increases)!!

As to the rut, Monty increased my pulse rate for the first time today... I was hand feeding willow leaves to Katya over the fence and he charged me. From now on I will make sure I am behind a solid fence post, not just the stock wire! He has often wandered slowly over and put his antlers through fence but never charged before!!! AND I only have him for another 2 weeks, just hoping his hormone levels will drop dramatically in the next 2 weeks or it will be a real problem loading him into a trailer to take him home.........
Anyone into extreme sports! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!

 

I think next year would be more feasible for me too Karen as I'm still getting used to this new routine lol. I've got to admit, I'm not great with 'gory' stuff such as birth etc. I can clean poo up all day long (I also used to be a carer for kids and adults ) but watching something giving birth or bits of bodies and I'm outta there .
I was going to add something else but I'll go stick it in my thread instead of bunging up your page!

 

Poop duties sound good to me! Thought you'd have more fun calving but it can be messy/exciting and sad all rolled into one - also silly early mornings... So we'll go for poop shovelling, worming, digging ragwort, grooming all that winter coat out them Fifi and maybe digging a ditch for more water pipes!!!

Not sure Mischa understands Monty's seduction technique!!!

Kind of like "See what big antlers I have?" - after all, he doesn't have muscles to show off like some guys!

 

Hector had a try out with his new neck collar but we're still waiting for a red head collar that fits. Fingers crossed I have 2 coming from the USA.

And Boris' to make sure it still did up!

Boris and Hector look great all decked out in their Holiday collars and gear! Very festive! I hope the other two collars make to you from the USA soon!

 

Today's update.
Little Lotte trying to strip her velvet (and if this is the right video) Hector just chewing the lichen on branches!

 

That must be Boris in with them? It doesn't look like the branch was strong enough for her to get resistance to pull off the velvet. I hope it worked better than it looked.

 

It is Boris Babysitting...
They all have lots of bushes to try on but Boris (castrate) and the babies don't have the hormone rush to try very hard (rutting paddock have been stripped for weeks)... The babies will beat Boris, Hector is part stripped already...
And Hector was getting far too friendly with their overgrown beach ball today... didn't video though, as he was being a naughty boy!!!

Just adding a silly, I usually cut up the apple treats but Boris and the babies are in far paddock and forgot to take my knife... baby Lotte managed far better than Boris!!!

 

So cute. Love all you share of the herd. I've learned so much.

 

I think because Lotte couldn't get it all in her mouth, she had to use the ground to help. That actually made it easier than Boris trying to get through the slick skin of the apple with it completely in his mouth!
