Sun has come out here too after several days. Just the rays. Rainfall Nevyeli receiving a whopping 45 cm of rain within few hours between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. It's centimetres not milliemetres as we usually have. All other districts received rain in Cms

This is how roads in Chennai are from yesterday

20 foot waves expected on Lake Michigan tonight.
40 years ago the Edmund Fitzgerald succumbed to what is thought to be 3 Rogue 35 foot waves.
Now you know why they are called the Great Lakes !

Aerial view of the rain affected Cuddalore District. The depression crossed the land in this district. Other district has not been so much hit as this. This photo was taken yesterday. Nearly 2 days have passed by. Roadways through this district was cutoff from Monday. Only yesterdaywater receded & the Highway became usable. No electricity for more than 3 days, still in most parts of this district. Major Coal Mines & Electricity production unit in this region has also been hit.

But now normalcy is returning & water has started to recede. Current is being slowly restored.

I just wanted to share the force of nature. Nothing can stand in front of it. This was not event termed as cyclone - but the disaster is enormous. Cuddalore is a cyclone prone area.

In the second video, you can see a person wading through the flood & dragging 2 dogs along with him to save them.

@Banjoman we saw enormous waves only during Tsunami. Rogue waves were the ones that sank the Poseidon, wasn't it ? I saw the old Poseidon Movie when I was in school. We had a lesson about Titanic. So our English Teacher made arrangements for us to see that one. I like the old Poseidon movie better than the new one & Titanic.

The Poseidon Adventure movie with Gene Hackman and Shelley Winters is in my opinion the best.

    Boats on the roads
    Buses under water
    Trains are submarines

This is how Chennai is described today by medias & social websites

    Some interesting picture

Rains have not stopped. Before the first depression mitigated, we had another. Now its the turn of Chennai to be flooded. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been rushed
School & College students are having an out of turn holiday for more than 9 days or so. Roads, subways, railways everything is flooded. Water Water everywhere.... that's how Chennai is now.

In the neighbouring district there are 1000 and odd lakes. Out of them 800 and odds have reached their full capacity and water are being released & houses & flats in Sub-urban area flooded. Houses & flats marooned. Over 4000 rescued by NDRF. Still many are marooned. Relief are not able to reach them.

Videos of 3 persons washed away and drowned by flood before the eyes of their parents & relatives, of an unknown man rescuing an elderly lady stranded in a bus submerged in a subway, by carrying her in his arms and wadding through waters and of how a drowned bus was rescued from subway are top news that have gone viral. Social websites are loaded with all sort of flood photos from people.

But rains will cease within a day or 2 is the prediction. Thereafter it will be the turn of our Neighbouring State.

Since I live close to sea there is no water logging here. we are safe here. But the rest of Chennai is floating in water.

Please stay safe 12ss12. That is horrible weather conditions. It looks like when we have hurricanes here where I live, I feel for you. I believe you said you lived upstairs. I'm glad you are still able to get online, that is usually the first thing I lose when we have bad weather. Keep us updated :)

Sure friends. I will keep safe. Thank s for your concern and kindness. I am thinking of skipping office tomorrow, if this continues. Yes, I live in 3rd floor. As I said this is a safe place. Even Tsunami did not cross the Beach road here. Its somewhat raised ground. Current rarely goes out here as we have lots of Government offices around. But in other place there is no power.

Now its the turn of helicopters to rescue marooned people. So far around 80 people have died due to floods.

This is not a hurricane or cyclone. No wind or storm is blowing. Just rain. But incessant rains from 2 depressions, for more than a week, which lead to floods. Now the people have come to realise that they have not given due respect to water bodies & water ways and now the water ways & water bodies are showing scant respect to us.

Even though the situation is grim, people feel that they will be rescued. No drinking water, no shops, no milk, no vegetable. Nothing. I know people suffer. But I also feel that they are not yielding to depression. Many contact rescue teams through cell phones and have belief that they will be rescued. They are not broken down. I can see it in their voice which are being telecasted in TVs. Its the damage to the properties & other things which will be huge. As this is an extraordinary situation, I feel people are trying to tackle it with positive attitude. Each try to help themselves and others in the best they can.

There is also a brighter side to this. Some enjoy the rain too. As this is a tropical country, rains are always welcome here. This water will keep us going till the next monsoon season which be after one year. As people are not able to move out of their house or travel, all sorts of pictures & videos about floods You can see people enjoying the rain in the pictures below

Arielh ! Now you can know why trains are submarine. Train tracks are not visible. But even then some trains do ply very slowly in their tracks soaring in water - like submarines ;) May be the delay in loading causes problem for you in viewing my picture. Try Opera turbo mode. Sometimes pictures load in them.

Opera is like Google Chrome - a browser, If any page loads slow, there is a turbo mode in it which will keep on trying until the entire picture loads. It will be slow. But in other browsers, you will get an answer that - it took too long to respond/page is not loadable. So sometimes I switch to Opera turbo mode when my net is slow or there is a problem.

Rains have stopped from yesterday morning & we had some sunshine today, nearly after 10 days. The situation might improve within the next few days. Only then the real situation will be known - both in Chennai and Cuddalore. Schools & colleges closed till 22nd Nov. Its raining in the student's forest ;) Literal translation of one our proverb. ;)

I think I will finish my pictures with this post.
