Since so many of us have become new mentors due to some serendipity in the system, I felt we needed to have something that could help. AnnT, thanks for your advice about opening this thread. I have found the suggestion thread very helpful, but it really isn't the place for it. I think here is, or at least better. I really like the Tip of the Day, however I don't know what to Tip every day.

The Farmerama Forum can be very useful. To access it from the game, click on the "?!" in the upper right corner. Then click on the paper/pencil icon. This will open up another window for the forum. The first time you access it, you will be prompted to provide a name. This can be the same as your game name but doesn't have to be. Choose carefully though as you CANNOT change it.

Sweet Cassie- In addition to the statement you have provided, I usually add, ". Please navigate to the section that says Game FAQs. When you click on the link you will find several pages of game FAQs. They contain a lot of information about many different aspects of the game but the best place to start are the ones that say Beginner's Basics. Let me know if you have any questions ."

I think that many new players are a little lost at first so finding the forum is a good place to start.
Ideas... getting to the forum, posting for neighbors, how to make cc, things to avoid....ie. spending BB unwisely. Upcoming events,
I also ask if they have any questions each day.

SC posted a good example... I suggest making a "cheat sheet" so you don't need to remember and type every direction over and over again.

I have been using notepad to compose my tips, but I don't save them. Maybe I should, and refine them. I gave my chicks the advice about getting to the forum, but I forgot about the first time name and getting to the game FAQs. Good advice PnP and Sweet_Cassiopeisa. I am such a numpty sometimes. :p

I have these in Wordpad. I can copy them right into an IGM. I prefer to send short notes until I know they are "live" and not computer generated. I have one "live" chick and I have sent more detailed notes. So far no replies so I'm not sure that English is common to us both. Most notes are dovetailed to the level the chick is at and what is going on in the game. (BTW: I unofficially mentored several neighbors long before I was chosen for the program.)

This is a great thread!!! Thank you so much to AnnT and Baw to think about it and start a thread!:D

I'm also a recent mentor. Although I'd love to really mentoring someone, I never had the chance to have any chickadee that is an active player. :(

Also, I had a hard time to understand how the mentoring system works. Felt like a chickadee in need of a mentor to understand the mentoring system! xD

While waiting for a real chickadee, I'm trying to level the social meter in the hard way: Messages and gifts everyday. Don't have anyone giving me love points back nor levelling up. So it becomes very slow to level up.

I also think that the chance of getting a chickadee not understanding english may be huge...o_O
Anyway, I'd rather prefer being a mentor, even if I have a (very small) chance of getting a real chickadee player that not being a mentor at all...8)

Meba - I really liked that you told your mentor you were not a newbie and didn't need tip of the day notes, as well as indicating what you needed for your farm. If I have a chick that is not an actual new player trying to learn the ropes, I'm fine with them telling me they don't need notes and what they do need. I would much rather not create an uncomfortable situation for either of us. Thank you so much for adding your experience to this thread. :)

This is a wonderful thread.... I myself didn't get much advice from my Mentor unless I asked specific questions. The most useful thing I gained from my mentor was stables I asked for that I didn't have and would need down the road. A friend in the game told me it was okay to ask my mentor for specific gifts. In a new game, it's hard to know what to ask.... so I was overjoyed when a friend in the game became my guide... and helped me along even when I didn't ask for it. She no longer is playing the game, but I have reserved her suggestions to memory and some are saved in my skype. I am not a mentor yet, but I hope as I progress.... it might be possible for me as well.

In my opening letter I tell my chicks that I will be sending them daily gifts that will change as they level up. Also at that time I tell them they can gift me too. I tell them I would prefer the Lil Box of Love and where to find it but that is the only time I mention it. I figure if they want to gift they will. Today I got a Hi-bear :music:....no complaints, I know it's a real live chick :D

I would love to have just some kind of response...I finally got a couple of real chicks, one level 9 and the other level 37. If they do not want to get my messages them I hope that they tell me, I really don't want to annoy someone.

Per accessing the forum, I always thought it would be nice to have a picture, particularly since many chicks do not speak English, but I think people are reluctant to follow links provided by people they do not know when they first come in to a game. I know I was... took me a while to get over my fear.

There are good chicks and bad chicks. I actually had one block me the first day and then complain on the forum that their mentor didn't give them any advice or gifts...lol (when you are blocked nothing gets through) Most of the time I never got the 'lil gift of love (the interface was different in the beginning) but they sent pheromones instead. I've had a few that are still playing, including one who sent me multiple questions each day. That helped me come up with my list. I've also had chicks that didn't speak English and managed with a translation program and links to their native language forums.

Just a thought, but I used to look forward to some communication, any at all was appreciated. In fact, when I had to be the one mailing, I felt bad as if I was being a bother. I even to this day bother some of my neighbors with questions that I could perhaps ask in the forum, but some of my neighbors are so nice and helpful... it seems that I gravitate towards asking them.

Stupid question maybe, but how do chicks gift to the mentor from the roost?

Oh! Oh!, I know this one having just been a chick!!! Chick goes to chickadee roost in the farmhouse and clicks on the mentor's icon. A screen to send gifts pops up and good to go!!

My mentor must have loved me. We had a language barrier so I didn't ask them any questions the only thing we managed to work out was that they wanted me to send the love points daily. They sent me a daily message stating what gift they sent (or maybe I still had the gift notification turned on I can't remember) and I made sure I sent them the love points. That was the full total sum of our interactions.

I was a little miffed at the time but mostly because they primarily sent apple trees with no explanation as to why. Being a new player I wanted the stables and egg farms and so forth. Of course now I understand that the apple trees really were very helpful and those egg farms totally useless but it would have been nice to have that explained.

Oh well I wasn't a chickadee for very long anyway. Good luck to all you new mentors!

How do you let your chicks know you are dropping them (what words do you use in your message to them?) ?
That helps, but they have to respond first so you know what language they are speaking.
