The next breeding event is approaching:
I hope there'll be an update to the breeding situation before that. If not, I think the breeding event should be postponed.

Thank you for pointing that out Mir, I was not aware of that updated response.

Well, same results as the last time for me. ( at least this time I did not buy any power feed!). Too bad, because I used to like been part of the breeding events.

I've read the "explanation" regarding BBD skips. While BP seems to be under the impression that only during the last BBD skips were bad and has decided that the reindeer were responsible, skips have been a problem for a lot longer. I get plenty of "twins" including "runts" (twins are a lower level than the regular breeding results). Skips however are almost non-existent and rarely skip more than one level when they do appear. Another dis-satisfied customer will not be buying any PF this event.

I am going to step in on this skip issue. A BIG part of the problem is undoubtedly misunderstanding about how statistics/sampling and random selections work. NOTE, this is NOT an insult.. I have met plenty of PhDs who don't quite "get" it, not really and I have found that the number of teachers who can clearly explain it in a way that people can understand are few. I was very fortunate to have a good teacher.

Soooo --- you cannot decide anything based on one person's results, or even 10 people's results. Repeat that -- you cannot decide sampling statistics based on such a small sample!!!

Let's say (and this is strictly a number I pulled out of my head because it matches dice nicely), you have a 16.667% chance of getting a skip of any type. Roughly, that means that 1 in 6 should get a skip.. of ANY kind. EXCEPT -- that does not mean every 6 people get a skip. In fact, you can have very long streaks of folks without skips. You can test this yourself with dice, IF you have the patience! Pick any number and see how often it appears. Consider every time that number appears you will get a skip. To do a real test, you need to do a LOT of rounds. Also, note that your dice roles are actually nowhere near as random as an algorithm, so really you would need to test each and every number, rotate the dice, etc. Now, the percentage of what folks might call a "good" skip will be a percentage of the above percentage. I have no idea if each higher skip has an equal chance or if they are weighted so that the very best animals are rare, indeed. (I suspect so, but that is only a suspicion).

Anyway, the point is that to really test this, you need to either use some specific statistical tests (needing many samples) or, to get a basic visual example, you need several hundred rounds of hundreds of breeding trials.

The problem now, ironically enough, is that people are breeding enough to see closer to the real statistical results, as opposed to just "guessing and hoping". I think people will always want more skips, but the team has to balance what they feel to be an appropriate number. Remember, it seems nice at first when the skips increase, but quickly that means that the price and therefore the value of each individual animal goes down if the skips are too high.

BBD was good to me plenty of coloured animals as well as getting a lot of my own animals back. :)
I got a Pirate Monkey from base animals, I sold it for 14 million. xD

Out of over 800 breedings you would think BP could have tossed at least ONE top level animal at me... but no. I think that alone speaks volumes about how pathetic the BBD results are currently. If I would have tossed dice that many times at a casino... I'd have been in high roller heaven sippin' on umbrella drinks in the VIP lounge -.- This will be the last time I splurge on XL PF sales until something changes. (Sorry neighbors :sleepy:)

All I can say is that when I started, I did less breeding and got the occasional top level animal from skips. During the last 6 months while buying one or two XL PF packs each BBD, I can't remember getting one. Perception is a strong proponent of spending or not spending real money in the game. I have also seen the price of top level animals in the market climb. How high do you want prices to go? I want a fun game, not one where the best things in the game are impossible to reach even when spending real money. (Maybe someone turned off my "luck". :( ) So for now, I won't be spending on PF packs.

I'm disappointed in BBD skips. I haven't got one higher level breed animal after breeding the whole XL pack 800 PF = 400 breeding's. From now on I'll make PF and not buy. Breeding events will no longer be awards I shoot for with RM.

Hey, does this mean chat has reopened??:p

I have to agree with everyone above. BBD has been very disappointing for the past couple of times (for me anyway) :(. This is the last time I will participate :( unless I have enough pheromones and PF of course;)

I remember the days (or day) that I first tried out the baby boom event, wasn't quite sure why I was handing over horses and cows and I had to scrounge for powerfeed plus buy the pheromones...
back to my story: I went for around 25 or so runs with the animals and was impressed by how many cool animals I was getting in fours and fives!! yes you heard me, all at one time! there were lots and lots of high value critters (you would call it a skip) yeah...lots of those gems! I couldn't believe my eyes!!!...a fire horse on 4 regular horses? Now that was a happening event for me.
Now, back to earth with the breeding events currently and I got one skip every 35-40 runs...I used so much PF that I should be ashamed of myself. I donated over 250 Ostrich's and 8 had skips. baaad baaad pen. bad pen. really bad. not nice. no.
It would be nice to have some old values back, I remember one event waaay back that had a triple BB sale, buy 150 and get 450, now that's value.

    @woody
The basic problem is not us not understanding that it's random and how that works, the basic problem is we feel dissappointed for not getting more and better skips.

Bp needs to UP the amount for us to feel HAPPY spending money on powerfeed and doing the breeding processes. Right now, it takes too long to accomplish ANYthing with breeding, especially if you cannot afford to buy any powerfeed.

I think farmingfreebird has summed up the problem nicely.

Occasionally good skips do happen, but there is a difference in the amount and value of skips I have received in the last several events compared to events of a year or more ago. Perhaps it is the volume of players or some other factor at work which is causing this. Whatever the cause, the main issue before BP is that a great many players do not perceive value in return for PF made or purchased.

Unhappy players do not increase profits or benefit the game. Tweaking the system to allow a higher percentage of upper level skips will cost BP much less than players restricting the purchase of PF or becoming disillusioned with the game. Players are spending real money and virtual rewards cost nothing, after all. Making people excited and eager to breed again will increase game play, as well as a sense of fun and accomplishment. Please carefully consider the value of creating happier players!
