And issue came up in discussion over mentor issues.

Some mentors, apparently don't even know where the forum is.. never mind some other features. Maybe a short, very basic quiz or some such should be added to the qualifications?

    Very good idea woody!
I don't know how some new(comparing to long time players) farmers become mentors when some other have applied when the mentor system was introduced. But I don't imply that new farmers don't know all the features because even some old players who haven't been really active have missed important changes and they can't help the others.

When it comes to new features, I think that is where a mentor forum would be great.
Also, maybe periodic reviews of who is eligible? Not often.. thinking maybe every 2 years or so.

a mentor forum would be nice too because it would be a more organized way of sharing thoughts and ideas. I applied years ago and just got approved a couple of weeks ago. I would like to devise a tip list. we have a few mentioned in another blog but if there is one central location that could help...and a running list of tips. After weeks my first mentee graduated and today, for the 1st time, a mentee emailed me first.

It's a good idea Woody and while I don't think mentor's need to know absolutely everything they do at least need to know the basics. My only thought on the forum issue it that there are players who play on 3rd party sites that don't have forum access. It is possible they could also become mentors as well. No idea how you could play this game without the info contained in the forum but it certainly does happen.

As much as I hate to exclude anyone, I think that maybe should be a "deal breaker" -- at least for anyone not also registered as third party player, unless there is a "workaround". (for example, do they need to have a farm to register here?

It's a good idea Woody - when I was a newb I lived in the forum and soaked up the valuable information from more experienced players (which is why I rarely have issues with drops now) and I'm still learning. Personally I think the mentor level pre-requisite is also too low if you've leveled up quickly.

Woody, you do need to have a farm to register here or you can't even look at the forum. The 3rd party players can look but they can't post and they have to get a direct link from someone as they do not have access for the game itself. Honestly it's a whole other issue that goes beyond mentoring. I happen to agree with you on excluding them, as tough as that sounds.

I would also agree with raising the farm level per-requisite above level 40. I would vote for 70 as a good start point.

I actually thought that myself back when I was newer. At the same time, I think we have examples of players here who are making quite good mentors without necessarily being level 70.. and we don't hear from those who are higher than that even and not such great mentors, either because they just don't speak the language (a tough one to get around for BP). A very brief quiz might help, but only if there are already more mentors than chicks. If chicks are waiting, then a bad mentor is better than no mentor. (perhaps)
