Owwies !!:( Poor baby Hector!

Do you have Vetericyn products available there Karen? If so they make a spray on med that is safe for eyes that is super easy to use/apply... and not messy.

Guinea don't know Vetericyn. I have (or did have - out of date now, but quite happy buying new- think it is called Obenin) a wonderful eye ointment but it is an antibiotic to sort infections, but AS YET no infection so I won't use antibiotics... yet..

With the way he loves to rub against things, he probably found a twig that fought back! :wuerg: Will keep fingers crossed that it doesn't get infected!

It's night time here in the UK but have decided to mix up saline solution to drench eye tomorrow morning.. I really don't want to use antibiotics unless an infection takes hold... Saline will help stop an infection getting hold.. Will keep you updated...
Not a major worry yet, just like to share all (the ups and downs) so that the reports are balanced. ;)

Despite no signs of discharge and saline & cold tea administrated, his eye has become cloudy (blue eye), so moved up treatment to antibiotic paste... Have never had this problem in the winter before, usually a summer problem with flies but we have had strange weather this year... :([IMG]

Oh poor Hector! Good thing he has such a diligent & watchful reindeer Mommy as you!;)

Sorry you've had to doctor Handsome Hector Karen:(, hope the blue eye issue clears up fast. And hopefully he's been a good (cooperative) little patient for you!

Hi Karen, it is never a dull moment with the reindeer herd, but you are a wonderful mom!:) I hope little Mr Hector is letting you put the meds you need to in his eye, and that they work real soon. Take care and stay safe;). I hope no one else in the herd can get his infection!

From past experience "blue eye" takes about 10 days to clear - it shouldn't spread at this time of year as very few flies about... Treating him is a piece of cake hee hee as he is always bugging me - in fact it was a godsend he wouldn't come near me for a full minute afterwards!!! After the minute was up he was back to head butting me!!!
He'll be fine, just TLC needed and with him easy... if it was one of my wild children (Twiglet & Ana) then would be more traumatic...

Glad Hector the Man is easy to "work on" Karen, because this should be your little/short-but well earned reprieve before all of the baby watch/birthing stress starts!
Thanks again for sharing all that goes on with your herd. The good the bad and the ugly... we eat it all up, but still can't get enough!:inlove:

Guinea, do I take it you are reading elsewhere as I didn't think I had started to bore everyone here with the "Baby Belly Watch"!!! ;) I might have forgotten what I posted but don't think so.. ;) But I a answering questions on FB and here so can't always keep track!

Karen you didn't bore us with last season's "Baby Belly Watch" at all... I remember that you did give fairly frequent updates (here) on a lot of belly movement, and on all the births tho (which reallllly made me miss watching my Nannie Goats blimp up, bag up and go thru all the fun of their kidding season). I definitely enjoyed every bit of what you posted, and I am anxiously waiting to read all about this season :D

Oh boy, have I been posting that long... didn't realise it was over a year... scary... but you are right Guinea. So most will be "same old" but hopefully different outcomes for some of the mummies...
Sorry no photos today... Hectors eye looks very angry (not good) but we'll get ontop of it.. just takes time.
Have been working on water troughs and this will be ongoing for weeks as they are designed for ground level but I need them at least 2 ft off the ground... Have smooged a neighbour to build 2 x metal frames but do I ask him to put legs (with feet) on that I can drill onto slabs (which I haven't as yet laid) or do I try to lay concrete block to support... not sure yet! Ages since I last tried building concrete blocks or bricks... but sure it's must be like riding a bike......
EDIT... getting Sooo Broody now for the coming babies, looking out last year's baby photo's... This is my Monster (Hector) at about 3 weeks!! AND can you see the twisted wire fence in the background - rutting bulls do that - In May when the babies are born it is ALMOST worth putting up with the dangerous rut ;)!!!.
[IMG]And a "Friend of the Herd" has just shared this with me.... Who has eaten ALL the Pies Katya ... check out lower lip!!!

Well.. we all have our favorites even if we won't admit it at first...lol Yes, We girls do tend to be high maintenance at times, why should reindeer be any different. awww Boris with children hanging off him must be such a cute sight, I am glad he is sound enough to handle having the children around him.
Those frozen treats you mentioned are even making me hungry, hee hee no wonder Katya was going to town! Do many reindeer have problems with overeating ? I ask because with my dogs if the cover is left off the food container one will chow down into a bloat situation but the other would only eat a mouthful and walk away being content.. Does the same happen with reindeer?
LOL, she just had to get the last bite in that picture , funny

Karen, you can never bore us with your wonderful reindeer tales, it's always a pleasure hearing updates form you!!
I love the berry face, and such a pretty shade of red. I look forward to many more happy tails, thanks for all you hard work keeping us updated! I can't wait to hear & see more, your pictures are beautiful.:)
