Who is this Thad Character?

 

Thad is our pilot, and we had a plane crash on a deserted island.....he was flying us back to the States from New Zealand, when we hit a flock of parrots on an island north of Hawaii. If you scroll back through this thread, you can see the story of our teenage years......

 

For those who read the David and Lily stories/poems, they are the ONGOING adventures of these two teenagers! Their beginning starts on p.9, post #173 of this thread. Since they have so many adventures, the details are impossible to put in each poem and they are best read at least once from the beginning in order to have all the background info.

The main characters are(of course)Lily and David - two inexperienced teenagers experiencing becoming adults. But there are also Cousins Brad, Chad, THAD... and time traveler extraordinaire- Novarad, owner of the 'Bleem Racer'!! These Cousins are childhood friends (..not related to Lily..) of Lily's, and come from a talented, intelligent, and decent family, and Thad is one of their best. (It is also a very laaarge family, and cousins keep turning up....like a bad penny, in David's estimation....as they are competition for Lily's attentions.)

We hope you will want to know the whole story, and have as much fun reading them as we do writing them!!

Cousins!!! Well that changes everything!!
I really need to read all this from the start

 

Hurricane Lily (oops, the 'real one' mustn't hear)
as Thad and I named the storm-of-the-year
Well, That fierce open sea storm has subsided at last
and it's time to rebuild, let's get onto it fast

we feel like three little pigs, with a house made of straw
after the wolf had just blown it down, with a roar
Can we make bricks, or stack stones just so right?
And as warm as we need, can it be water-tight?

and can it be simple, can we build it with ease?
No ! architect Lily, no bay windows, please!
OOps, I said the wrong thing, she's in a bit of a huff
But we are too busy collecting up all of our stuff

The storm is subsiding, and this is what had come through...

I'll never forget this dark day and night
That almost took my life, and gave me such a fright...

That if I live to be a hundred, my bones will feel it still...
The pull of that great wind that threatened me to kill.
Only their weight and strength, and their determined Will
Kept that mighty storm-terror from having my blood to spill!


David and Thad look different now, I see..
As if they've grown Ten-fold, as good as men can be.
How strong they are, how glad I am, that they are here with me!

 

Very nice that there is "A Morning After", that terrible storm!

 

It is time to take stock in the storm's aftermath
The trail of destruction that is left in it's path
No roof on our hut is worrying Lily
but Thad and I have a worse calamity

We only had seventeen bottles of beer left
And one had a crack! We were so bereft !
Could we still drink that damaged one?
Or would glass fragments cause our health to be undone?


With no doctor to help us, if one became ill
We decided to prepare that bottle for burial
Oh, the anguish! The pain, at our sense of loss....
and No understanding from the "she-cleanup-boss"

We dug in the sand, above the high water line
a small cairn of rocks, looking just fine
Thad said a few words - could you call that a prayer?
And we allowed both of us, one precious beer

Later, the twelve remaining bottles were carefully placed
so that separation with sand and evenly spaced
and away from what I perceived was the cause
falling hair straighteners, put our beer in the 'wars'!

Peace and prosperity have returned! Our Island abounds with birds, wildlife and food!
That storm seems to have stirred everything up, and for us - that's been very good!
Many things have washed ashore- for us it's like a hunt for treasure..!
After losing so much in the storm, finding anything is such a pleasure!



Sometimes I feel like we're being watched...strange birds around here...
But walking the beach with David again seems to take away my fear.
I guess we're pretty strange 'birds' to them, and they just want to know
Who we are, and what we are... and are we friend or foe?

I've found so many feathers that I'm using them for decoration.
I guess they think I'm a bird too, as I'm winning their affection!!

Sweet little companions, they're curious, too...
And follow us around just to see what we'll do!!

Things are almost back to normal now with David and with Thad..
The party they had to bury beer bottles made us kinda 'glad'
To be alive and all together on this gorgeous Island!
David, and Lily, and Thad...we've found a tropical diamond!!

Island life is back to it's dreamy best
and we have plenty to do, to clean up the mess
The three of us are all getting on fine
Work, food and fun: all seems balanced, for mine

The wildlife is unspoiled and not wary of us
the birds are curious and close, if we do not fuss
There is plenty to marvel, as beauty abounds
The morning bird chorus, filled with magical sounds

Thad is a thatcher, with an abundant skill set
That watertight roof :- sleep without getting wet
and we are building a new house: foundations are done
A two room mansion! much better than one !

But the real key here is the harmony within us
We've eliminated 'paired' thinking or divisive mistrust
and that is the key to our survival, right there
communication to the fore: clearing the air

We all have our strengths and our ethics are strong
In this community of three, we all get along
with respect for nature, like knowing the power of the sea
I can see us being peaceful till eternity !

We found a beach so full of seashells it was almost hard to walk!!
The storm must have pushed them to shore - one was big as a crock,
Good for a serving bowl of fruit...or maybe we can make a fish soup!
So many uses, it's hard to imagine...decorations and dishes, or even a scoop!!

We've re-hung our hammocks and swings, and there we've been sleeping,
Till we finish building our new hut - and one room for me for safekeeping!
My sweet little shack was all washed away...I still have a nightmare
Of the night of that Storm...to be alone now really gives me a scare!!

We really had fun, planning a house made mostly from driftwood-
Strong and solid....for when those storms get up to no good!!
I'm eager for it to feel like a home....to fill it with decorations
All made from the things we have found - uniquely our creations!!

We built it upon a small hill - it was easier building up than out-
And my room is above our all-purpose deck, so I could see about.
They gave me the Plane owner's bed - dried in the sun for a week.
Ways to make their lives easier now, I am more determined to seek!
And when it's my turn to cook, I will make their food
The very best that I can, to help improve their mood!

David built a great central cooking stove/fireplace..
What a fantastic idea it was - and a perfect use of space!
With parts from the plane, we now have a smoker for meat,
A grill to cook all our food, and on cool nights we have heat!!
With Thad to help, they even made sun-baked bricks
From clay dirt they had found...now all we need are sticks!!

David's oven survived too, and oh! what a joy it will be
To have his fresh cakes...along with my biscuits, a specialty..
And Thad has the best way with fish - cooking them too -
One week, each, it will be...turn and turn about we will do!

I'm so glad for all the things the Plane owner had stored
On his way to host a Party- he had beautiful things aboard!
Loads of food, best wines and linens- lots of things for having fun!
It makes our three lives alone here, feel like a real Home Run!

I love your story line and all your tropical pictures! I love all the sea shells and palm trees I think I lived on a tropical Island in a former life! I hope David, Lily, and Thad can continue to get along!

Sometimes we never know what's going to happen next - just as in RL!! That's one of the things that make it fun for us - we do try to make it 'mostly' like RL....
Sooo glad you are enjoying them!!
I hope one day that you will enjoy life on a tropical Island...even if just on vacation!!
(Did you notice the "sanddollar" in her hand at the beginning of the above post?? Well, of course you did!! Lol!)

 

sandy is just fine, and YES I sure did notice that sanddollar.. reading the story and looking at the pictures sure does make me sit here and day dream, as it is a cool and gloomy day here on the coast of Maine! The good news is I have spent many vacations on the beautiful Island of Bermuda

 

Oh, that IS good news!! Bermuda, famous for its pink sand beaches....are they really pink??
Well, why not! Some of Hawaii's are black!! LOL! And some of Florida's are white! And then there are California's golden sand beaches...
I, too, love to look at those pics...and daydream, get absorbed in their beauty....

Maine! You are even further north than I am, here in Massachusetts! We, too, are having a cool and grayish day. But at least it was beautiful yesterday - all sunshiney and crisp! There is hope.....

 

Yes Lily, I call them a Coraly Pink color and powdery soft! and beautiful turquoise watersah makes you want to go where the sun is! lol
