    Update on baby.
I have moved them inside due to hail showers, a red kite circling close overhead, finding a muntjac fawn's leg in my paddock and Mischa not having a great track record as a mother.
She seems to be looking after him well - he seems to be getting fed up with being washed/licked (mind you he needs a clean up after standing in the wrong place when she had a wee!).
Mischa's milk (colostrum) has come down and while he looks in the wrong place for it most of the time, he is feeding. So fingers crossed. :)
Pictures aren't great as he's either buried in hay or wobbling when standing!
Don't worry, you will now be inundated with pictures, if you want them. :)

First baby from Mischa that has been delivered naturally (TG) too - they usually have to be pulled from her.

No name yet, it's strange I can never name them before they're born. We "bat" names around once they're on the ground but it is usually a couple of days before we say... that's the name..... Suggestions welcome... Can't guarantee they'll "fit"

Unfortunately, I don't think he'll stay in the herd, as lovely friends in Scotland want two boys from me :( & :) they are lovely people and treasure their reindeer but they have so far only managed to purchase wild imports... & they want two bys from me... It's hard but, it has to be.
Their name theme is Greek & Latin Gods...

Second photo a wet face due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!

I'm so glad she didn't need help this time. Maybe that was the reason she didn't take to the mothering before? I understand why the boys can't always stay. You don't have the separate space for them so unless you were to castrate them all, you just can't have that many entire males. I'm not sure you even have room then. I know you will make sure they go to a good home. :)

I he survives... early days and so far Mischa hasn't done too well but the signs are good. He will be with us until at least early August when he is weaned but I know prospective owners well (they are getting far too excited too and they want 2 boys from me) so I can update from their Facebook page with photo's... but he hasn't survived 24 hours yet so lets not look too far ahead yet... ;) Have to enjoy day by day for at least the first week.........

He is just too cute! :) We are all sending prayers and good thoughts that he makes it. He does look strong to me, but I am a city girl, so what do I know!?:p I hope Mischa's motherly instincts take over and she will be a good mom!;) All the best to you and your family! :)

Sooooooooooooo happy for you, Mischa and the little mini greek/latin god!!!!!!! :D:inlove::D:inlove::D
I knew Miss Mischa could do it this time around!!!! LOL @ him getting tinkled on... no kissin' that cute lil nose for a few days:wuerg:

Were you there for the birth? Just curious how hard/easy it all went for her (and you)? That is so awesome that her milk came down and he is nursing (regardless of his bad aim, lol). It's looking really good all the way around at this point, right???:D

Congratulations congratulations congratulations!!!!! Happy to read that you already have a home for him once he's weaned ;) Now he just needs a half brother to buddy up with!
OK, No more IFs, stay positive woman!!! This was a great way to start your calving season (and no stress of calf pulling)! :)

Please do flood us with pics pics pics and more pics! We want progress reports on the rest of the Mommas too!!

    Sooooooo happy for you!:inlove:

Think there's a pretty good chance Katya and Twiglet may add to the numbers over the weekend.. Ana not for a while yet but the other big girls are VERY, Very Close. Just done a dark (night) check to see if they were on the way but all quiet for now... "Hold the page" though!!!

Edit ... for Guinea who replied at the same time I did. I missed birth by minutes, he was still wet, she was licking him dry and her water bag was still attached, let alone afterbirth..
Forgot to say Hector was a Monster, had to drag him out of paddock as Mischa's trailing water bag only burst chasing Hector away from her baby, which she did repeatedly before I manhandled him into Home paddock - nosey boy!

    Ohhhhhh the anticipation... !!!!!;):p

LOL @ Nosy Pesty Hector... he just wanted to help!! xD Or maybe he wanted to make sure his spot in the herd's cuteness pecking order wasn't being compromised, lol:p

That is way awesome that Mischa did it all on her own, so proud of her! GOOD MOMMA GIRL!!!! (Sorry you just missed it tho!).

You wouldn't believe the stress today... First trying to catch Hector who just wanted to approach new baby (minutes old) from every angle and skipped sideways when I tried to catch him (usually I can't get him away from me but he knew I was after him). Then catching Boris to join Hector so that Hector had a buddy. Next problem was that I had forgotten what a pain Boris was when in home paddock. I had moved full bucket of soaking reindeer moss into feed store to that Boris wouldn't scoff 3 days worth of 7 reindeers treats in one sitting. I was looking through set of drawers for mini dog coat in case Mischa didn't feed baby and I needed to bring it home for handrearing... Boris comes in starts eating most so I pick bucket up and put onto of feed bin - really heavy full bucket of water (with moss) I'm back sorting draws, Boris reaches up on back legs, knocks the whole lot over my toolbox, me, feed bin. I swear at him, pick up moss, put in hay store at which point he knocks over mixed up feed bucket (again ontop of feed bin) that I haven't had chance to distribute yet, in the wet puddle he had just made!!! Boris is coming back into his own!!!
I have now moved Mischa and her calf into gated field shelter in home paddock, as Hector was climbing on 5 ft round hay bales to look in her shelter and Boris was turning me grey, the boys are back with the expectant mothers this afternoon. Mischa, her calf and I are now peaceful in home paddock... BOYS... who would have them!
EDIT... did I also mention that during my first attempt to move Mischa and baby to stable, picked up baby, it kicked twice then went completely limp full out open glazed eyes, not breathing. Thought he was gone, put him down quickly, rubbed chest vigorously and he came back to us!!! Oh they are such a joy!!! Moved succesfully 30 minutes later, without the baby dying!! :)
