Karen, you sure have had a day of it!;) I believe Hector is just being nosy and needs to see what is going on since it is not all about him! ha ha As for Boris he sure does :inlove: his moss! It's not like you didn't already have so much on your plate!! I hope all is quiet for you tonight before the next baby comes along!

Wow Karen... lol!! Sorry to laugh, but you have to admit the colorful picture your post painted was pretty comical lol:cry: What a mess maker Boris is, lol. Glad everything is all sorted out now tho! LOL @ Hector getting up on a round bale just to stick that cute kissable nose where it doesn't need to bexDxDxD He has things all figured out to his advantage doesn't he, He's not missing out on ANYTHING!

And Yikes at Mischa's baby glazing over!!! Don't squeeze him so dang hard next time you carry him upside down like that xD(LMAO, JUST KIDDING!!!!). That would have scared the crapola out of me!:wuerg: So glad he (and you) fully recovered lol.

Still just the one but he's doing well and getting stronger every day. I am a little concerned with his right knee. The joint seems "loose" as sometimes the leg bends outwards (knee flexing inwards - to centre body line) when he puts weight on it - no discomfort at all. As it isn't an emergency I am just keeping an eye on it to see if muscles/ligaments etc tighten it up. I will reassess on Monday to see whether to get the vet to have a look to see if he thinks a splint may stabilise it.
I think maybe he might have been a little premature as his hooves were a little pale at birth for his dark pigmentation.

PS I don't mind anyone laughing at my adventures above - I did after it was all over, maybe not at the time!

He started nibbling on a little reindeer moss today, which is great as it will help his rumen start to develop.

He is dark but a real cutie. :)

Can hoof trimming help the turned out leg?

I'm thankful for all pic's you're giving us!:inlove: It's my go-to thread every log in!:music: I am surprised he is so dark.o_O Mischa is light in color and Dad was practically all white. Where is this dark coat coming from?

Cassi, unlike a horse there is no depth of "horn" on the hooves as it grows laterally rather than downwards.

As to his colour, I was amazed as Mischa has previously had pale grey calves to darker males and as Monty was pale grey I was amazed at his colour... Not sure what the other calves will be now but it makes it exciting! Brooke (someone suggested the Milkman - but that may just be a UK expression) :)
I have a very dodgy video of moments after he was born, still wet & struggling to the milk bar. Is it worth me downloading it? Let me know if you want to see it?

I'd love to see any video you have time to upload Karen! I love watching those first few hours of brand new life:inlove: He is gorgeous, wonder if he will stay so dark? Glad he is doing well, hope the leg/knee decides to straighten up and act right!

One thing I forgot to mention that I do for my newborn baby goats is to give them a dose of "Nutri-Drench" as soon as they are licked clean... not sure if you have the same product over there, or anything similar that would work for Reindeer (they make different formulas for many species of animals, even for chickens/poultry lol), but it gives the babies a little jump start as far as energy and getting up to nurse goes... plus I give a dose to my Nannies to help replenish vitamins, minerals and energy as well.

Guinea, there are no drugs licensed for reindeer in the UK but we have something called Lamb Kick Start but I have only used it on Mischa's previous calves who took a while to get breathing... This little mite didn't have a major problem at birth.. :)

Have downloaded my dodgy video of "Friday's Child's" first few seconds in this world...
Think he "may" be called Thor as that is a name future owners want but if he has an ongoing problem they may not want him... but then I like the name Thor too... But can I have two called Thor in the same year!!! :(

Awwwww, going for numnums b4 he's even on his feet, lol, so adorable! :inlove: Thanks for sharing!

Nutri-drench isn't a drug... it's just a nutritional supplement/boost. And sometimes leg/tendon issues can quickly be corrected with a little extra nutritional/vitamin support while everything is still soft and pliable. There are also a lot of similar home-made recipes online that you can mix up yourself, granted that you know the correct nutritional needs for the animal that you are supplementing...

So how do the rest of the girls look? Any obvious signs at their business ends yet? Did you ever feel for/find the tendons on any of them? Just curious (and nosy lol) :p. Please keep us posted!

PS... I like the name Thor!

Guinea. Ligaments, I had a try but reindeer coat is so ridiculously dense (1,500 hairs per square inch) it was hard to feel anything along the spine.
As to the other girls... Ana will be ages (3 weeks) but I was surprised that Mischa and Twiglet haven't calved today... maybe tomorrow, they are very close???

Edit.. Feel much happier now about his leg. Have spoken to someone in Alaska with lots of reindeer... They said don't worry, don't bother with vet, that it is a common problem. It usually resolves in a couple of days but it can take up to a fortnight (2 weeks). :)

Loved the video, at least "the girls" are giving you a break in between births :) I also like the name Apollo :)
I like the news from Alaska about his leg, so fingers crossed he will be ok! :)

I think I'm in love :inlove::inlove:. Thanks for sharing the video and great pictures of little Thor. He is a little dark in color but he reminds of Lotte when she was fist born and she lightened up some. Hopefully his leg straightens out and is just fine.
Now the wait for the rest of the babies....:)

Friday's child has a name... meet Thor.

He has made it past the first scary 48 hours. He was skipping round his stable this morning so I decided it was time to put them back out in the paddock with the expectant Mum's.
Poor Mischa, she is going to have her "hooves" full with him.
As Mischa tried to keep the other girls away, little Thor was running to them to see what they were. Hector was trying to climb the fence to meet him & poor Mischa thought she had to defend that fence line too and the little mite was keeping up with Mischa's charges.
All a lot more settled now as the novelty has worn off.
All looking good but still only one baby.... any day now for 2 more.. What colour they will be is very exciting - for me..

I am happy that Thor is running and skipping about, that has to be a good sign! :) He is too cute,:inlove: the pics of him and Mischa, just lovely!
Now just waiting to see who is next and what color this one will be, it is very exciting even from the coast of Maine! lolxD

That front right leg looks better. Back end still looks weak. Hopefully all that running will help! :)

Luckily no longer worried about his limbs, a little instability occasionally but he has been running the paddocks with legs stable. In a couple of days those little legs will e 100% :)

Current Farmerama challenge is a bit more dodgy. Usually finish easily but this is meant to be a hard one & can only plant around girls schedule... Not too worried, prizes are rubbish for a hard challenge... Good luck all
