Professional photographer (that had asked to visit FOC) didn't turn up because it was overcast...

Wish he had told me, as I was delaying breakfast for the adults... Boris WASN'T happy...
I finally rang him, half an hour after he was meant to show and he said he was waiting to see what the weather did - he lives an hour away... A courtesy call would have been good!
So you only have a dodgy snap from my camera... Thor..:)

That is a lovely picture of little Thor. He looks as if he is smiling at you!

I love the pic of Thor!:inlove: I agree...it's a bit rude for photographer to not call to say he wasn't coming. I would think an overcast day would be great for photographing your reindeer. That way, no glare from sun or shadows.

Lovely picture! (Note to self. Don't schedule reindeer feedings on photographer schedule. Tell him when feeding will be done if he wishes pictures at that time. xD )

Noelle, Brooke. Almost told him he had "missed his slot" as I was a little cross.
He rang me "out of the blue" to ask if he could photo babies in April... They weren't born then... I called him last week to say they were all born. He rang back to say he would like to come at 10am today... I am not charging him, he will sell cards photos etc. It would have been good to know he wasn't coming!!!
Never mind, he has done himself No favours as I am now going to insist that any photo's he now takes he mentions the herd name... :)

Well there is "your" silver lining!xD maybe someone should tell him that being rude is NOT ok!
Good luck IF and When he comes to take pictures! I will say he will have the cutest and good looking herd around! :inlove:

I agree with Brooke; an overcast day make for great photos! Less harsh shadows and overblown highlights in my opinion. But each photographer has their own style, of course. I am sorry, though, about the less than professional lack of courtesy.
Requiring the herd name be mentioned is a fair return for the photos; glad you are doing that.:)

Both baby girls now have mucky bottoms. I'm starting to think it is just the lush grass as they are not "under the weather", so I making straw available to counteract the lush grass.
Weather is warm, so flies will be about... Will have to stake out their paddock to wait for them to be really asleep to clean those bottoms!

They come to me to say hello but not a chance of catching them if they are even half awake as they can run as fast as their mothers now... :)

I love this time of year... I hate this time of year...

I always think that the worry will be over once the girls have calved (as they are my main concern UNTIL I get to know the babies)
Baby girls are still loose but very alert. I hate Bank Holidays as not all vets on duty...Waiting till tomorrow to see how they are but would prefer Tuesday for the reindeer specialist to be on duty... We'll see. In the meantime a couple of cutie photo of Loki...

Baby update. Lexi's loose output just seemed to be too rich grass and she was fine yesterday and continues to be.

But I had the vet out to Freya today as she is scouring badly, although thankfully not dehydrated and still very perky but she is a tiny girl so don't want to take any chances. She has had antibiotics, anti inflammatory and multi vits and vet is sending away samples to lab. According to vet it could be caused by a bacterial infection, worms, the weather or drinking too much milk - diagnosis VERY open at the moment and we won't know for a while.. Worm count will be back by end of week but bacterial culture won't be till next week. In the mean time he's treated for bacterial infection, just in case... Worms unlikely as they maternity paddock has been fallow for 6 months and all girls wormed before they were moved in...
My washing machine is working overtime as ALL my clothes (and the vets) got sprayed in pooh while he was taking her temperature & giving her 3 injections - it's a cold wet day today, so that is 2 coats, jeans, sweatshirt and T-shirt - luckily I had wellies on!

It isn't all cuddles here.. :)
No new photo as it tipped it down all day.

Karen - I'm so glad to hear Lexi is doing much better!!!:music: You are so wise to keep a close eye on and call the vet for Freya. Can reindeer be lactose intolerant?o_O So sorry you got covered in poo. Especially since you were wearing so many clothes, coats etc.:wuerg: Thank goodness for the wellies!:p

Brooke, not that I have ever heard. My coats smelt beautiful this morning after they had finished tumble drying and boy I needed them again today.. 1st June and it threw it down all day.. :(
A picture of Loki's antler buds, he's actually a little ahead of Thor (in antler buds) despite being 10 days younger.. and a second picture of Hector whose right hand antler only started to bifurcate a couple of days ago... he's going to have some nice antlers this year - as long as he doesn't break them!
Freya - no improvement but no deterioration either - she did have a pink head today though. She had obviously been rubbing it on the mineral block - when you have an itch, it just needs scratching!!!

Edit... Vet just called with initial Lab results returns, on Freya's diarrhoea, everything clear so far.. negative for worms, coccidia etc. but if bacterial infestation the cultures take longer, but her treatment with Alamycin will sort if that is the problem... Delighted it isn't a worm problem but in a way it is better to know What you are dealing with in order to know that you are treating correctly... :(
