There is so many people policing the forum these days that I don't know who are the Mods anymore. So in this thread anyone can chit chat about anything they choose. As long as the real mods are ok with the content.

Elimeno- I am only about 30 minutes from Lakeland. Definitely gotta do Disney.
    Kid free of course :)

I love it...it already feels very liberating.

Really...i will let u know when i am down there...I like Lakeland....bc it too is about 30 minutes from Orlando.
Unfortunately in Lakeland, FL 2 of the 9/11 terrorists learned to fly in that little airport.
I would love to buy a place in my fathers complex...the houses are so nice. they even have a few rare 2 floor houses. when i was married, he would never move to Florida...so that was another perk i gained. BUt i did say to my dad...look every cop show, forensic files, or unsolved mysteries...I said i need to know the city with the most murders...bc Florida seems to be the state???

Yes, I think that is what my father said. Texas seems like it could be but i dont think it is...I just know my brother almost lost his mind driving from Arizona to Virginia when he moved....he said Texas was horrible to drive through because nothing but flat prairies for miles and miles...

I feel like that when I drive to Florida...the worse for me is the Carolina's. Its endless. I think the last time I drove was 7 yrs ago. Drove straight thru...i had enough caffeine and no doz coursing thru my veins. But now a days...I dont think I would make it. I get sleepy driving to the store...LOL

Actually I believe Chicago is the worst place for crime. I saw where they had 63 murders over 1 weekend not too long ago. The gangs have taken over.

Doc, I believe you are right. I wouldn't want to be stuck on a deserted road in either city though.
I've been to the windy city as a young girl and don't recall any problems but those were different times then.
Elimeno- Florida is not scary lol Don't you live in NY? Now that would be scary! lol
I've never been to NY city. I've always wanted to see some broadway shows there though.
I've been to upstate NY and it was beautiful
I think every state has scary places, you just avoid those areas :)

I was born and raised in Chicago. After living in Ohio for decades, I moved back to Chicago. It has changed, but so have the attitudes and morals in this country. It's not the 50s anymore.

Most of the violence here is confined to certain areas, just as it always has been. The main difference I've noted, is a small part of the violence has leaked out into usually safe, peaceful areas. Part of that may be because of the big push (a couple of decades ago) to force the gangs out. Unfortunately, it forced some of the gangs into outlying areas that simply weren't equipped to deal with it.

I've traveled all over the world, and must say Chicago is still one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen.
It makes me sad that it now has such a horrible reputation.

I have to agree...I grew up in an area in New York, Throggs Neck. It was great...you could walk on Tremont ave at night...now I would never. Happens everywhere.

I have always wanted to go and stay for a bit in one of those rural communities...population 1000 and everyone knows u :)

Well, folks, I googled and of course there are differences. One says Birmingham, St Louis, Oakland, Memphis and Detroit being top 5. Another says St Louis, Baltimore (really spiked last year for some reason) New Orleans, Detroit, and Newark. Yep, so much has changed since I grew up in the 60's. My one sister and me used to stay in the car and play while my mom went in the grocery store for weekly shopping. So we were out there for at least 1/2 hour. Wouldn't dare do that nowadays. Either get reported for child neglect or someone might snatch them:(:(

That is so true Julie and we didin't even have to wear seatbelts back then.
I can remember jumping from back seat to the back back of my moms old station wagon lol
    Times sure have changed.

Sorry...total insomniac. Its 240 been up since 1...but in all fairness I did hear a noise. My dad did mention Memphis and he is a retired policeman.

But how many times my mother would kick us out of the house and she wouldnt call us in until dinner/bath. BUT the sad thing is u cant do that and everything is a "play-date"

I remember early 80's in my mom's toyota tercel....my brother and I both wanted the front seat....to avoid drama...we bought sat in the front.....squished but we won...seatbelt what was that?

PS: only because I am awake...random thoughts, you know how us woman email eachother and usually get a rather quick response...bc its like conversation...when u email some of the males...I wont say THEIR names...it takes days...by then the thought or comment is over....the moment has passed...maybe I need to go back to sleep...
I have been known to paint rooms at 1 am....do all sorts of things. most productive time
