This thread may be helpful to some "diligent" newbies, but is probably of more interest to those who have gone up a few levels already. It clarifies some points that may not matter right at first or that need more emphasis later. As with the newbie basics thread, feel free to make suggestions/additions, etc.

Tree fruit names Apple trees give apples, but:
    Catalapa trees give Angel's trumpet
    Medlar trees give Medlar Berry
Stone Pine trees give Pine nuts
    Fullmoon Maple trees give Samara
    Oak trees give Acorns

Exchange Value, market price, etc. These are easy to confuse and understand.
The Exchange Value is best thought of as an almost random value (there is some structure, but it just doesn't matter much) that is used for events and quests that ask for "donations". It stays the same throughout the game (if there ever is a change to any value, it will be announced). Exchange value has nothing at all to do with the market value.

The market value changes, and can change a LOT for various reasons, though there are a couple of limitations. Within the market, there are 2 values to keep in mind. First is the selling price. If you click on the product overview, you will see a list of various offers. Those are the current selling prices. Click on the "make offer tab" and you will see a game-generated price that also varies. That price, the automatic value given when you click "make offer" represents roughly an average of the selling prices, except that it is never lower than the exchange value above, even if the selling prices are quite a bit lower than the exchange value. One point to note is that while you can sell an item for as low as you like (occasionally you will luck into offers for .01 CC when someone is getting ready to leave or perhaps makes a mistake), there is a limit to how high you can sell. That percentage varies. There is a rune on the tree of wisdom that allows you to sell for more, there are buffs that do the same for particular products. Most of us don't calculate that out, we just move the slider up to the "maximum" when we want to do so. In "normal" times this does not matter much. Most items have a more or less regular price that they hover around, with only minor variation. HOWEVER, this matters a lot when items are first introduced -- prices almost always skyrocket as folks rush to buy items and fill the latest quest. (new quests are, of course introduced with any new item) They also skyrocket during events that require a particular item. There are other threads that deal with specific strategies in the market, so I won't get into that more here, just suggest you read them or ask any question you might have of "the group".

Markets Note the plural. There are too many players to "fit" into one market. Right now, the total number sits at 32. Know that this market is (currently) the same for your regular market in town and for Gift and Trade events. There is a thread on market numbers in chitchat if you want to delve into that more.

Price less than it costs to make????? Some workshop products normally sell for less, even much less, than the animals you need to use to make the product. Some animals sell for less than what the feed costs. The reasons vary. Along with the "regular" fruit trees are trees that offer cow and goat milk, eggs and honey. These produce the items without any need to use animals or feed. You can obtain an egg tree in one of the Farmer Society Quests, but to get the other trees you need to wait for a Gift and Trade mini event (see FAQ for details). Other than that... call it a mystery. Other items are available from cloud rows, a few of which are available through the Tree of Wisdom, others are not available. It really boils down to the fact that everything here is "free". Values of anything are based on supply and demand. Some people may have had the same pens out for a very long time, grow and make their own feed and never really worry about the price of those items. They just like to sell what they make, either regularly or occasionally. Some people make a whole study of the markets and gaining CC, others care much less. You can decide for yourself how to use the market.

LOCK on the Pirate Cove?? When there is a discounted sale on products in the shop (craft supplies, givers, etc)

Buffs "Buff" is the general term for things that impact harvests. Some will reduce the time it takes for a pen, tree or crop to harvest. Some add items to your crop or tree harvest. Some will offer more EP upon harvest. There are 3 basic types of buffs. The first type is craft products you make in the artisan village or buy in the market. There is a full list in the FAQs. Also, see threads on the artisan village or overall strategies, along with the for more details. The second are cloud rows. Again, there is a full list in the FAQs. Do be aware that old ones are unlikely to be available (at least for a long time, perhaps not at all), but new rows are always being offered. In addition to this are some more "global" buffs that may either be won on the farm wheel, as a prize in an event or offered as a bonus of some type (for example, EP days typically offer an EP bonus after you buy BBs) There is a lot of strategy, several approaches to all of these, so I suggest looking through some of the threads on the topics. In general, know that buffs that add to harvest (either quantities or EP) should be activated before harvesting, before your largest harvest of the day (often in the morning) for maximum impact. Those that shorten harvest time should be used just before planting/starting your pens.

Harvest trophies Trophies increase the drop rates for standard and event items. One trophy requires donations (the exchange value noted above) of animals, the other crops, but they both impact ALL harvests (not just animals or crops). At first, the trophy will only impact the field it is on, so its important to move them around before your harvests (particularly during events ... see event strategies for more details). When you open up the living legend rune on the tree of wisdom (see either the strategy threads on general event strategies or the FAQs for more details), then you can place your trophies on the tree and they will automatically impact every field without your having to move them each time. (and yes, you can upgrade them once there)

Other impacts In addition to the above are runes on the tree of wisdom that help with breeding, offer more water and manure. In the greenhouse you can make refinements. Refinements are rather complicated to understand at first. There is an excellent strategy thread that discusses them thoroughly for anyone interested. The spa (artisan village) has a fruit mixer which allows you to make new products from the standard ones. Again, review the FAQs and strategy threads for details.

Magic Glade/runes Its definitely worth reviewing the FAQs on the magic glade as well as looking at threads in the strategy thread on the Magic Tree (if there is no thread, don't be afraid to ask about which runes to open first or other questions in the strategy section -- when information is old, these threads get deleted) Although the free water is pretty easy to understand, other things are worth investigating.
