That is so sad. Karen - I bet you would do it if needed; you have much courage and determination. But we will believe the best for your lovely babies!

Wish I could have seen that "feeding situation" with Twiggy.xD I can just imagine how that looked!

Have your vet give you a sterile needle/syringe just for that and instruct you on how to use it. That would hopefully minimize the contamination risk until he/she can get there to continue treatment. (Hopefully your laws allow you to have the needle/syringe for this.)

Karen I take care of orphen baby calves because the mom has twins an some moms will only care for one of them they are brought to me when they are 1/2hr old and yes it is scary, but I have done thing to keep them alive I never thought I could .So I Know if you need to save their lives you could. But don't worry you and your babies will be just fine. I have only been doing this for my neighbor for 4 years till then never was up close to a cow
    Bless you and your babies

Caviar - yes we are allowed needles and syringes and allowed to treat "farm animals". I have a whole pack of both as I administer jabs. Think releasing large quantities of gas quickly would require a bigger incision though. I am sure my babies will be fine but I just get a little down when I hear others losing their babies and little Freya is so far behind in her development that I worry so much about her. Still no visuals of antlers and still tiny.

Lotte was tiny too and is now doing great. How is Freya's development compared to Lotte? She might be tiny but she seems to be doing ok and had overcome some early difficulties after birth. I am rooting for you both!

P&P, you are so right!!! Lotte was tiny at birth & had lung infections within a few days too and now she's a "Chunky Monkey"... must stop worrying about them (and especially little Freya)!!! I need a chill pill but still no antlers buds showing and she's over 7 weeks but seems lively, so promise I'll chill! :)

Had another youngster (6 nearly 7) visit today (but she was VERY grown up), she had been studying Canada (including reindeer) at school - it was wonderful because she brought a list of questions that had been asked in her class.

Usually at that age I do the Santa bit but it was lovely to share facts. I really enjoyed her visit. :)
A picture her mother is happy to share.. Feeding my Monster lichen...

And his antler tips are splitting AGAIN (only showing another split as of yesterday) and still another 4 weeks of growing left but the boys are slowing down now. I'm pretty proud of Hector's second year growth though, quite impressive for a teenager! :)

The baby coat moult is in full swing. Thor has lost nearly all of his baby coat and he's growing so fast.

The bad news today is that the three oldest calves appear to have abscesses forming from their inoculation sites.
SQ injections always seem to create abscesses in reindeer. (I always use a new sterile needle and inject when coats are dry and clean). Intramuscular shots I have never had a problem with.... Their booster shots I may go back to IM but it does make them limp for a few days. Poor babies!
At least I can't see an abscess on Freya (yet).

Oh my goodness! Poor babies, you give them shots for immunization and then it causes another problem, so now what!? I hope Freya as fragile as she looks will come out of this ok!
The little ones don't look so mangey when they moult as the big ones do!xD They are growing so fast! And Hectors antlers are just beautiful already!:inlove:

Really enjoying the latest photos. Perhaps Freya will do a sudden growth spurt - rather like my nephew who grew two sizes in a couple of months!:p Hector is gorgeous!:inlove:

Karen - 1st....I adored the pic of my fav, Hector, with the little girl! :DHe is such a viril young reindeer with his evergrowing antlers!!! I also greatly enjoyed the pic of Mischa's looong stretch for a bite of the tree leaves. And of Thor and Lexi playing with the tractor! This is still my most favorite thread!!!!:inlove:

Brooke... I just wish you could all meet them in Real Life to really know that they are all such characters... I try to post to show a little of their R/L but I can only give a glimpse of these very silly animals...

Had a feed delivery today (the guy has been delivering for over 12 months) but he was in stitches and asked if he could take photo's as the empty bags were being explored, stamped on, reindeer heads inside. The feed bins, we had to push them aside to fill and the back of his van had two reindeer in, our every move had at least one reindeer nose in - it was chaos! :(
