I know us Farmeramas with a slight FOCD, like to have a fully stocked barn, keep the ducks in a row, and never count our chickens before they are hatched (Who knows, could be a great skip).

But at what point do you go: " HOLY CARROT!! I'm almost out of [insert item]! I only have xxxxx left." And hurry out into the daylight to fix this dangerous low stock level.

Please do tell. I can't decide for myself what I feel is enough. When am I stocking up or when do I hoard.

Ps you don't have to suffer from FOCD to answer, I'd like to think what sane and normal people thinks too.

IMHO - the answer really depends on a person's goals for the game.

    My basic level for safety:
Around 2000 - 4000 for crops and tree fruits not being used for FSQ, crafts or frequently used animal feeds.
Items needed for feed milling (if not purchased in the market) around 5000
    Animals at 500.
Feeds not milled at 100 or better.

But, HH participants will not feel safe without hoarding into the millions on specific items. Farmers that like to play the market hoard, sell and hoard some more (i.e. dear Broke:)) and have no fear of low levels. Those aiming for completing FSQ's pursue special items in quantity, as do those working on crafts and crafting levels. And those with an eye on BP game trends and possible events often stock items speculatively, hoping to having enough for use and selling.
At some point, I've done all of these (except HH)!:p Currently, I'm working on acquiring 10,000 minimum of all crops (with some frequently called items much higher) to make sudden event swings a bit easier for me. Tree fruits I collect at 5000 to 10,000. Animals are yet another story; working on 1000 or higher. However, I do get a sneaky suspicious feeling from time to time that makes me load up the barn on some critter!;)
Best of luck in your pursuit of barn goals! Perhaps one of the multimillionaire farmers will offer you better advice!:)

    Hi Moraine

I think I am cured of my FOCD....just to find myself suffering from an even worse disease I cannot recall the name of - (Spots knows it for sure). But it's this market playing making ccs thinggie I suffer from and I am a little twisted too, so I hope it is okay to write in your thread :p

I play all the areas except from the craftings (only a few artisan products have my attention). So I hoard or stock up everything and I sell everything when price is right and I let myself go to zero -0- without a blink of the eye - and only a little hurry hurry to get it back. I can wait until price is right or start making it myself - I mostly do animals though.
Building stock takes so much time I know I know and I am the kind of person who wants to do everything yesterday. In the beginning I think I went for a thousand crops of each and then 5K and so on, a 100 animals and then 500 and on. Products 25 and then 50. Feed was terrible - I was always out of feed or only had feed for my own animals. Feed mkt is also the last one I have entered to play.

I am currently working on a goal of 10k of each regular animal but I don't stop when the goal is reached just lower my buying price and keep going so I don't really have a max....not yet anyway. It sometimes feels like a never ending story though...whoo hoo I made this animal to 10K and then BP makes a call and I find myself at zero again or close to and have to start over. But to me that is really why I hoard - to make ccs. I am going for HH this year so I need to fund my spending on tree fruit and whatever I buy. Always looking for a good deal to make ccs on and in the end it helps me build up stock at the same time. Buying and selling - buying more and selling more - turning my stock over and over.

So to me empty is zero and enough is not reached yet. I will not allow myself to be at zero for very long though.

Always interesting to hear what others have as their personal goals and the effect that have on the strategy and barn :D Last time I played it was all about doing all events, but this time I think (or like to think) I have a more casual and relaxed approach

Depends. What's your need for speed?

I am aiming for enough so my barn can take a side swipe from any event and not notice it. Not counting HH, not enough gray matter.
I have a couple of areas that all I do is donate and never count, or look I know I have it covered I will replace when I have time to grow it/buy it.

I did the farm a tad different, I stormed my way to kiwi, but now I've gone threw every way I can think of and those shared by gurus to my best try. To stock the barn.
My scooter has reached the end of the land, now I can leave it at the side of the road and trot back and build the barn so more areas will be side swipe poof.

Will it be enough? For me yep.
I found a way right for me, not fast not dead but one that I can do and get my goals. I can't ~0~ it's not my thing, but I have a min. level, I'm still working on the ability to get it back asap, but that's another thing.

    Pretty empty

Zero is a scary number  I don't like it. So far I think my comfort level is 1000 in crop - and I'm so far away from it. Except lettuce and wheat. Those are easy to grow. Been a race to open Bahama and the entire glade, it's all done now 8) Almost ready for event crop.

My goal is to reach 10.000 of every crop but for now I can only accomplish that in Bahamarama. Because I can't log in often and when I do I grow event crops my regular crops get less and less because of making feed. So I will now try to have at least 5.000 of every crop because I can't reach 10.000 any time soon.

From beginning many new farms I have found that having about 660 of each mainland crop and 440 of each BAHA crop is plenty enough to get going. A few of each tree where tree fruit is required to mill feed is enough. A specific answer will depend on goals.

This farm, which also plays the market, has only one goal: To have enough of something to get every cc you want to spend. So the quantities vary and can vary widely and often change quickly.

The goals simply seem to never end as the ways of looking at the game do not. For instance:
    • 1 million pheromones was enough at one time and now 65k is fine
    • 100k eggs was enough at one time, then it turned to 200k, then to 225k, and now 39k is fine.
    • 1.2 M corn at one time was enough and now 330k is fine
    • 4 billion EV of tree fruit was fine for a while and now about 3 billion is enough
    • 37k anaconda is enough for my needs but not enough for market needs
    • 149,000 monkey feed is fine for now as is 12k another and some other and 6k another ....
    • 38k goats is fine for now but I'll take more ... just price them right
    • 120k of each BAHA crop is fine but I can think of one with over 330k
At the moment I have the concern that this farm have the feed to produce 1,000 of each mainland animal with the ability to produce 1,000 more feed in the mill at a moments notice. So I have 2-3 worthless animals to stock a little feed which takes me less than a week and that goal is met. But with bat feed at 39k just sits there.

You want 100,000 chickens? How soon do you want um? (Really I only hold about 9,000 at the moment but I know exactly where to get many many many more in a day or so.)

All I can say with any degree of certainty is that 128 of each mainland animal pen is enough if one has no room for expansion and 82 of each BAHA animal pen for the same reason. One may compute the same for each tree and max out farm or BAHA tree fruit production as there is a limit. With over 2,000 animal and production pens and over 2,000 trees of various sorts, there is no end in sight.

This farm invests -0- RL funds in the game and must survive in this magnitude based upon seeing future game direction. In order to remain an asset to the game while generating no revenue for the company itself, the farm must support game direction which I do not have accurate data for prediction purposes. The market the farm is on is big and it is not stagnant for long which promotes trading. The farm must remain healthy for the game in general and inventory levels change and the farm has often sold to exactly -0- with no regrets whatsoever.

The farm wanted a million roses to have a rose garden in the name of kaydd2's rose garden (kaydd2 was met in chat). So it got a million and that was enough (grew maybe 1,000 at very most). On and on and on and on .....

Good luck to you in finding an answer to assist you in finding your own way. Your way and amount is just fine.

Wow, thanks for that long and very interesting post farmer_broke. Really food for thought.

I'm not really looking for an answer, just curious how other players do it. This thread is in chit chat and not in strategy for a reasons, so all you lurkers out there - feel free to post. There's no right and wrong. Except maybe power manure on lettuce, that may be a bit wrong. Watering your lettuce tho is totally fine!

I like to have 10,000 for crops and Baha crops, some are many times more than that. Animal feeds, well at least 300 for each animal.
Animals, not less than 1000 but like at least 3000. I've definitely got FOCD.

I like to have 10,000 for crops still work on some of the new Baha crops. Animal feeds at least 200 for each animal and at least 500 of each animal. Trees fruit at least 1-2,000, now working on getting products up to 500-1000.

@ Moraine: I can reallly understand your feeling! While reading this thrad, I wondered, where they all got these huge amounts of crops, animals etc.

I am on level 77 on mainland, and my goal (at least at the moment) is to keep my farm self sufficient, having not to buy any animal feed for my animals.
Unfortunately BP is crossing this plan as I got the disguise shop (but have no raccoon pen), a snorkel shop (without having platypusses) etc. These animals have huge market values and spending CCs on animals to produce items, just worth half or even less of that price, makes no sense for me. So I am waiting for the give and trade event this month to get rid of these.

I also produce a few of the animal feeds, where I don't have the pens for, just to sell them on the market for mostly good prices ;) costs me nothing and gives me some CC for the fruit/animals etc I need for the FSQ.

Placed always one pen more of an animal than I need animals for the workshops.

CC levels have gone down today to 421 CC but with selling some of the cheap and quick crops went up a bit.

All in All: I have no strategy, have never enough in my barn and spend NO real money on a game :p

I know, this doesn't help you to find out, whats enough, but I think, finding your way of gaming, gives you the fun.

    So, Happy Farming everybody

Unfortunately, spots can't remember the name either!o_OxD

I don't know that I have a strategy, per se, but I do tend to be a bit of a hoarder. I try to keep the basic crops (thru about strawberry) at 10,000 or above - especially corn, as so many things need it. Since I have the recipe and the confectioner's level to be able to make my own CAC, I like to have 10,000 of the ingredients for it on hand (tomatoes, mushrooms, hazelnuts), but lately have been hovering in the 6000-8000 range as I use those crops elsewhere, and normally end up buying my CAC when I find good prices. Most other crops I would like to have 5000 of, but in reality most of the longer crops I'm lucky if I have 2000. I don't worry too much, tho, as most events don't call for really long crops because it would exclude too many younger farmers.

Animals, I don't like falling under 1000 of the basics, but that's strictly because I always want to have enough on hand so that if an event has a call for, say, turkeys, I can easily meet the requirements and make some CCs in the market as well. 400 is probably a safe number. Special animals I don't put out as often, and thus am way lower in inventory with them, but I do try to have at least a few of everything, in case of a call for them.

Tree fruit I don't really pay attention to my numbers, since I finished the farming trophy, but I do still buy it at good prices in hopes some day I'll be able to realistically compete in HH. And, tho it doesn't happen often, we do occasionally get event calls for high fruit numbers such as the recent event where only tree fruit donations were allowed, so it's always a good idea to stay stocked up, and it doesn't have to be high CC fruits either. I did a large portion of the aforementioned event using lemons I've been buying exceptionally cheap.;)

My biggest hoarding habit besides animals, I've got to admit, tends to be products. Memories of events calling for things like timber and bio glue and sheep's wool stick in my mind, where I didn't have enough and was forced to buy at ridiculous prices. So now I try to have a well stocked barn of all past called for products, providing they meet my price expectations in the market, lol. Some I have only a few hundred, some I have a few thousand. I've vowed never to get caught with my products down again:wuerg:, because I would much rather be earning those ridiculous prices than paying them.:music:xD
