Except they didn't request a mentor. New players are automatically signed up for the mentor program.

@-Mir85- Oh...I didn't realize that. When I started playing I made the request!!
BP should NOT automatically sign chickadees up for mentors:eek:No wonder the chick left!!!

I did a little research, since there seems to be different opinions on this topic :p

Started a new test farm. After the tutorial I checked the chickadee roost, and indeed there is an option to join! I did not join, but even so I was assigned a mentor within half an hour

There is an official message, but it doesn't explain very much:

You're probably right, Moraine, and in the future I might choose a different gift. I was just so excited to have a chick reach a level higher than 3:p. Hopefully they will continue long enough to realize how fun the game can be.:)

(Thank you, Brooke, you make me blush ^-^)

One hint I got early on was to send something like a cherry cheesecake, or such. You can tell if they use those. That said, I , too don't send anything other than the free gifts until asked. I was sending banana jam, but am now sending cherry cheesecake because I am making them to level up my bakery. When I am done leveling up, I am not sure what I will do.

I really wish I could get my mentor to respond to the messages I send them. I had one for like 3 days and sent helpful gifts and then got a new one and have sent multiple questions and get no answers at all.

there are a lot of mentors here that are looking for an active chick.

so you can leave the mentor you have and keep trying for a new one till you get one that is a fit for you.
Because there are all types of people, and eventually you will find one who is right.

    Just dont give up.

you can igm me with any questions till you get your new mentor.

    Hi Jentel, Welcome!

Pretty much anyone in strategy will help you out, though some of us have different farm names. (IGM me at "wuddy"). We cannot send you the mentor gifts, but it does not take too much to level up past 40 pretty quickly.

There are several strategies (check out the strategy forum), probably the most basic is to buy chicken pens , then sell the chickens and the manure that you clean from the stalls -- yes, it can be sold, too! (frogs might be better now, they were only made a regular animal recently, but I believe the sale price is pretty high). Then buy more pens, until you have your field(s) filled (40 is NOT excessive!, though it might seem so at first.. you can always delete them, putting them in storage for later use).

Other people prefer trees or just growing crops, but for the "instant" kick start, animals is quicker.

Woo hoo! FINALLY made level 2 mentor, thanks to my one active chick and my newest chick I got last night. It's a baby farm for someone, and they're leveling up quickly, so they gave me the boost I needed to push me out of level 1. Thank you, thank you, thank you!:inlove: And they actually want me to send messages, so I'm having fun coming up with silly things to talk about.:p Today I gave a weather report.xD

Hello Jentel, welcome to the madhouse...err...farm!:wuerg:xD I wish all chicks were like you, wanting to communicate. Unfortunately, I think sometimes we (or at least me:oops:) scare new farmers off when we start messaging them:(. If you're having trouble getting help from your mentor, you can always come here to the forum (congratulations on making your way here on your own, by the way, many new farmers don't know to come here) and one of us, or even several of us, will do our best to help you.:)

No truer words. They really need to send a cover welcome letter explaining things you need to get on your feets here.
Something simple, like Hello new farmer! We wish to welcome you, and let you know about a few things you will need.
The forums here are more than just talk :p you will need them to get a forward motion going, you will find how things work here add link to help files, then you will need to get a field clear, how? click here, We have a mentor system that you will be added to automatically, to get the most from it and see what it is all about click here.

Something simple, but to let the chicks know what is happening, most beginning buds I talked to all told me they never knew the forums afford so much, they knew people that quit just because they had no idea how to get to the forums let alone you need others to clear the field.

When I get a new chick, my first message is a Welcome Message and my 2nd message is How to Find the Forum. It is never too early to begin using the forum even if they don't want to post (I played for several months before I was brave enough to begin posting).

There is no reason of not posting here! Tell them there is nothing to be afraid and everyone tries to help the new players:)
It also took me a while to find the forum when I begin playing but I soon as I found it, I couldn't stop postingxD;)
Pnp why didn't you post? For me when I came here I was a little afraid because English is not my native language, but you don't have such a problem.

Here I give you mucho kudos, coming to another language area is big, tried a few places, I got a thing for decorative knot work, but things just were not so friendly as here. Tip of the hat to all that go beyond the box of comfort.

But there be many reasons people don't do forums, age, young the parental units may not allow, older peeps, there is Neophobia is the fear of anything new, to just plain don't want to get a rip down, I cannot begin to say how many ways peeps have been rip down on forums and it leaves a bad taste for many. From simple spelling ****'s to the snide way to explain something.

But I have to say, this game has a great forum, One of the top 5 in my book as to great people on it. One of the reasons I wanted to be a mentor, I < if I ever get one to talk that is> can feel good about releasing them onto the forums and inner workings of the game they be going to better minds than mine and it feels good to know that.

This is my first online game to play and I was intimidated in the beginning. As a newbie, there wasn't anything I could add to the strategy and I didn't know anyone to join a conversation with in the non-strategy threads so I really just didn't know what to say. None of my neighbors at that time were active in the forum so no 'familiar face'. But, over time I did join in and those who were active in the forum were very welcoming and became good friends.

Same here, pnp, when I first got directed to forum by my new-found chat friends, I didn't post either, for much the same reason. Add to that I'm naturally shy, and I didn't want to be the weird one out.:p Didn't take long to get over my shyness, tho, and pretty much everyone here feels free to release their inner weird, so I fit right in.xD

I understand, thanks Ming for pointing out more reasons(and I know what is Neophobia, it is a Greek word).
I am glad both, Pnp and Spots, decided to start posting! This forum wouldn't be the same without you:)
I remember Spots, you had mentioned you were shy(in one of the first posts I had seen from you) and I was really surprised because usually all your posts were big and you posted here so often! But you explained to me that it's not the same posting here and talking in RL.
