Blessing to all my fellow Floridians today; especially those already dealing with heavy rains. Skies are solid grey and threatening in my area in northern Florida. Got up early to take down the hanging flower baskets and wind chimes around my house (can't believe I have so manyo_O) and remove patio umbrellas.

If the storm follows the current probable track, the eye wall will pass about 60 miles to the east of my city, so power outages are probable. Like CylentLea says, if the tornadoes stay away it shouldn't be too bad. I am concerned for those on the coast and in low areas, where storm surge and flooding are a problem.

yes the track of the storm has moved a little further to the north and west its not going to be as bad as first thought where I live except that we are south of the storm which means we will still get some of the wind and rain and we are in a high probability of tornadoes so all my thoughts and prayers are going to those that are closer and in the path of the storm the only thing I'm worried about is the tornadoes ive always been scared to death of them :( I pray that EVERYONE in Florida and Georgia are safe :)

Sending out prayers for all in the path of this storm. Thankfully does not look to be to bad. Over on my side of Florida (east coast) it is gray and rainy but we should be just fine here.
Stay safe and dry everyone. :)

The power of nature ..... scary but at times quite awesome.

Prayers for those in 'danger zones' right now. It is great to see the positiveness in peoples posts and the endless hope that we all can share.

For 24 hours the East Coast of the North Island (New Zealand) is on Tsunami warning. We have had 11 quakes in the last day and a half. The largest was magnitude 7.1 . It is predicted that this swarm will last for a few more days yet. Nothing broken at my house but constantly pushing things further back on the shelves just in case.

Wherever you are, all stay safe.

I have talked to many people in California who think earthquakes are just a way of life there and are not frightened by them.
I have lived in florida my whole life and feel the same way about hurricanes but I am terrified of earthquakes. I have never experienced one. My friend Marly is terrified of hurricanes and tornadoes. I guess its just what you know and how many you have been through.
Mother nature is powerful and should be respected. But I have definitely become complacent over the years when it comes to hurricanes. Probably not the wisest thing to be lol I think I have enough smarts that if Tampa were going to take a direct hit by a cat 3 or 4 I would leave town :) But nothing less than that.
    Anyways, that's how I feel ~
How do you react when the weather is nasty?
Elemeef- My thoughts are with you- stay safe

I have been through hurricanes (not as bad as Florida) and blizzards and you just use common sense and get prepared for power outages, have enough food/water/meds to get you through. Then you just wait it out :) The one and only time I went to California, San Fransisco, we had a 4.5 earthquake :)
to them it was no big deal but to us from the East coast it surely was and it came at night! It is a beautiful city!
Take care and stay safe everyone!

Blessings to you Elemeef - hope the earthquakes will stop soon and there will be no Tsunami.

CylentLea - I would consider evacuation on a Cat 4 or above if I was in the eye wall track. My home is not is a flood prone area and is brick construction, so it can handle storms well. I have been through several hurricanes and strong tropical storms, even had a tornado go over the house once during a hurricane. Tornadoes are the things that scare me, because they come up so fast and you can do little to avoid them.

Like sanddollar said, you just prepare for the situation and be sensible - none of that running around to see what the wind is doing! Never experienced a sizable earthquake though, just a tremor. The only blizzard I've seen is the dessert type at DQ.:p

    8) Lea, you're post pulled up some memories!!
When I lived in Florida, we lived on an Island accessible only by 2 low bridges which were prone to being flooded....so we were always evacuated during Hurricanes and some Tropical Storms. Never had any damage, though, as we lived on the highest part of the Island - 14 feet!!:wuerg: And when I lived in California on a mountaintop(only 3 years)we had earthquakes.

So I'd have to say - you are very right..."I guess it's just what you know and how many you have been through."

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you who are enduring these things, and more, right now. It is reassuring to read all the practical attitudes that govern the natural fears and cautions that come with the 'territories'!!:inlove: Love and blessings to all! Please let us know what happens....:inlove:

I will agree with this too!
I have experienced a lot of earthquakes over the years and they don't scare me. Never were they very strong or even if they were they didn't last long.
But no matter what we feel about these natural phenomena, we can never be sure when and if we will be hurt by them. We can only hope and try to stay safe because
    ;)

Thoughts and prayers for all of you in Florida and New Zeland:)

All clear here on the east coast. Lots of rain, wind, some low area flooding and still grey skies. Schools have closed down for the day. Hoping all on the west coast are doing well.
I guess it is all in what you are used to. I've never experienced an earthquake but just the thought of it is scary...hurricanes, not so much.
    Thinking of you Elemeef :)

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in the storms and earthquake path. I have very much respect for the weather beginning with Hurricane Betsy. The pressure in the storm caused the home we were in to feel like it was actually breathing. Another 3 feet and a tornado would have hit us. It dropped big pilings right by the wall where my babies were sleeping. The devastation was tremendous. Places in New Orleans had over 10 ft. of water and over 70 lives were lost.
After that I could pack the car and have my children in it in 15 minutes. To survive the first half, pass through the eye and know you have to do it all again is something I would not wish for anyone.
