Marly, JJ, and all our other east coast farmers, please know you're in my prayers (that includes you too, Deb, if you're checking the forum lately). May you and those you love be safe in this time of uncertainty. :inlove:

That is a really freaky image! I hope everyone is safe and makes it through with minimal damage.

Sending thoughts and prayers to all who fall in the path of this storm. It looks like it's gonna be a bad one. It's moving much too slow and passing over land doesn't seem to affect wind speed. Am praying for a cool front and hoping it doesn't loop back. Praying for the safety of all of you and your families. Keep us posted if you can.

That is a weird radar image!

I'm not in the warning track, but I have family and friends in the cross-hairs along the Florida and Georgia east coast. Praying hard for a high pressure wave to push eastward and a wind shear to weaken the hurricane. Current winds are 115 mph sustained at night! Keep the Bahamas in your thoughts and prayers, they are getting hammered tonight. This is a very ugly one.

Sending extra blessings and prayers for you, MarlyMar and JJenks!

I have sent my grandson and our horses over to in-laws on the west coast. This storm is looking worse as it gets closer. We have 3 houses now as ready as they can be...river house, my daughters, and this one is about 10 miles from the coast but on high ground. I'm sooo tired. :sleepy: My daughter has to be here as she is a hospice nurse and is on call and I just won't leave her.
Thank you for all your prayers, we need them. I am just praying now for the least amount of damage and that everyone stays safe.
Sending prayers out to all those who will be affected by this storm...Stay Safe. :inlove:

Marly, my friend!! I am thinking of you!! May you and all the other Florida Farmers stay safe through this! I have another friend who lives in a trailer in northern Florida and she is getting out of there today. This is looking to be a real killer.

A question. Where I live, I've never seen a hurricane. Saw a tropical depression once in CA. I know what near-hurricane-strength winds are as we get those with depressing regularity, but I know a hurricane also brings drenching rains and other stuff. My friend's trailer may not survive this storm. She's taking herself, her animals, and whatever else she can cram into the truck... but has to leave a lot behind. Anyone with a cheap and easy idea she can use to save books, clothes, and other such that can't fit in the truck?

Thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Matthew's path. I'm just north of Charleston, SC and less than half a mile from the ocean, so I'm in an evacuation zone. It's awful having to leave everything behind, but safety is the primary concern. I'm hoping for the best for all of us: no more lives lost.
gaura your friend is doing the smartest thing by leaving her trailer. I'm not sure of the best way to protect her things, but could she possibly put them in plastic bins in an interior closet? Interior rooms (with no windows) are the safest place to be during high winds. Also, for anyone who's leaving, be sure to take any important documents, and have some form of ID to prove you're a resident of the area. Sometimes, for several days after a disaster, authorities will only allow residents and property owners back into an area.
Best wishes to everyone. Stay safe!

    8) Those are excellent suggestions, -poppyseed-!! I especially like the plastic bins....they should keep things safe from water damage. Leaving an address/contact phone number inside also helps if they get washed away from the home. Identification is critical, as you mentioned. If you can secure the bins with bungy cords or heavy twine, that will also help preserve them.

My son lives in Myrtle Beach, a few short blocks from the beach. His father (my Ex-) lives on Pawleys Island, just a few miles south of him. They will most likely evacuate to Charlotte, N.C. where my ex- is from and has family.
It is hard to be so far away from my son at a time like this, but I'm sure they will be safe.

Yes, the bins should protect most things. If you have packing tape or duct tape, put it around the lid where it meets the bin. That would help keep out any water if the bins are submerged.
I also have never seen a hurricane, but have experienced tornadoes in 3 states - high winds and lots of water. I've even seen them dive bomb a town, one right after another. Frightening
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. You are irreplaceable, the rest is just stuff.

yes but we have pets and when you go to a pet friendly shelter they still may separate you from each othr and we don't have any vaccination papers for them so that wouldn't work :( I will just pray, we have neighbors still here too so we aren't alone:(

8)I'm so glad you're not alone, MARLY!! I understand about your pets...I would have risked my life for mine, too. But our house was not a trailer and in Florida, those are highly at risk - especially with this hurricane. I just read that it was as bad as hurricane Sandy that devastated N.Y. So if there is any way you can drive and drive and drive till you are out of its path, it might be the wisest course. Just remember your gas tank!! How far straight West would you have to go to be out of it's path?? (Check the above photos) How far are you from it's path where you live???
