Well pretty convinced one of the girls isn't in calf. Not sure which but guessing Katya as she was only with a bull for a short time..
Most of the girls have been removed from Hector's paddock.
He was going ditzy today, running fence line/climbing it and "tasting the air"... Usually he is pretty calm for a rutting bull BUT not today.
I usually give him cuddles and twice daily veg oil over fence line but not a chance today.. he was manic..
So max 5 calves next year..

Poor Hector, his harem has shrunk to one. I also am never bored with tummy watch. To speculate if life is growing inside one of your female reindeer is completely fascinating!:music:

The lazy lumps... afternoon feed time and the Home Paddock couldn't even be bothered to get up until I'd walked round, taken photos and told them it was feed time!

And that's just a few of them. Was our first cold day so guessing they had warmed their spot.

I think I still see velvet on some of those antlers. Am I crazy? o_O:p

Noelle (the velvet gets stripped with hormone levels - so baby girls & Boris are not interested - they have started vaguely chipping bits off but that is all).
And Sand thanks for noticing Freya's HUGE antlers ;) I am sure it has helped every time anyone notices they seem to grow a little more!!! :)

I did notice the lovely spikes on Freya. :)

Will you need to remove the velvet this year? Looks like quite a bit of work if you do have to do Boris. At least the girls are only spikes.

For all you who are following Lexi's lameness..
At first I thought she was being wimpy, as same leg I had injected wormer into. Then I thought maybe she had just been hooning around in 6 acre paddock and twisted something (dropped leg in a rabbit hole???), or was the cause a tiny cut in her frog?? I kept taking her temperature and that was normal, so no major infection but lameness could be an abscess forming at injection site BUT a lump should be forming by now...
Asked for vet to call today as cause was beyond me... he too could find nothing obvious, so guessing soft tissue damage. She was given anti inflammatory/painkiller.
She was limping even more 3 hours later but guessing because everything was manipulated... At least I know it is nothing serious.. so just time and LESS hooning around!...
She must be a wimp... bless her!

And Boris.. I have put vet on case to find testosterone, he can provide on Monday...
Working out dose will be interesting... enough for him to want to strip his velvet, but not enough to him want to launch me over fence or drop his antlers.... Fun fun fun!

Too bad you can't collect from Hector to give to Boris. (I know it can't be that simple.)

Well poor little Lexi sure has had a time of it, breaking her antler and now the lameness! She just must have delicate muscles! Good luck with Boris, I hope you get the amount right straight away!
@Noelle20001 , I would not want to be the one to go collect the testosterone from Hector!xD
Yup not volunteering for that one! lol:p
