Yes i agree with you oldman49 under the Old Forum we had a Steam Room to let of Steam to help us lash out our frustration of this game. We had a chat feature that helps us too. Sadly both of them are gone with this New Forum. It Would be lovely to bring both Back ;)

@sirpippen , I promised myself I would stay out of this BUTxD I am a woman and you being married yourself must know that Duct Tape does not always work! So here goes, my thought is that the EN forum is made up of a lot of free thinking, fun loving farmers who in RL are not use to people telling us when we can and cant talk and about what subject, so I think some of these "Rules" are a cultural thing ,meaning no disrespect to the rule makers and they need to rethink and tweek them a little! ;)

hmm.. well, you could try shouting, if you are not in a public place Or posting to your notepad... or perhaps in "code". There is an art (one to which I am not all that adept) to proffering opinions and insults that are not directly offensive.

I am actually quite happy that a steam room has been eliminated, even though I have had posts deleted for just that .. "venting". The thing is there is nothing at all preventing you from voicing appropriately worded complaints and suggestions. And (just my opinion), but those words might actually be listened to, whereas steams -- not so much. Even a "sorry, but we disagree" means folks are listening. Not agreeing, but at least listening.

    sanddollar -- lol
I semi agree. The problem is that because this IS open, its important to consider the most conservative/youngest (even though this is technically not a game "for kids", they are here). I agree when it comes to the definition of "off topic", etc. However, when it comes to offensive language... well, maybe I am old fashioned, but I think there is far more creativity in using varied words, appropriate language. (just my opinion, again).

i was going to suggest bring back the steam room, but because of my own reasons. i am a happy person who likes little or no conflict. When i read through the post i get a little upset because there is so much negativity. I have trouble reading everyone's posts because frankly they upset me. i know BP wants us too put all positive and negative feedback but i wish i didn't have to read all the negative, especially when i like being positive.

8)I understand what you have said, leannkat,:) and agree that it can be a downer sometimes, but everyone has a right to their own opinion, whether we agree with it or not. The difficulty lies in the presentation, as woody has stated above, and also - just as importantly - how we choose to deal with it. If we can teach ourselves to consider their right to express their opinions as valuable learning occasions for us - then it can temper our own emotional reactions and expand our thoughts and humanity.
It may not always be pleasant, but it is always instructive in one way or another, and therefore reasonably valuable.

    Well said, farmlilly.

To clarify my point further... though my suggestion to "just shout" was partially tongue in cheek, the truth is that even at best, a steam room really just provides a place to vent, a very temporary release of stress. Its not the type of forum that really makes site designers pay attention. The question is whether it is really and truly worthwhile taking up community server space so you can post a comment instead of just venting in other ways. At worst, steam rooms can get, too often do get, very out of hand quickly. It requires a lot of moderation and fine tact to balance keeping the place within bounds, yet not too oppressive. We already see issues in the main forum. Its even more difficult in steam rooms. If you have volunteers who do not speak American English (British in their forum) very, very fluently, then decisions wind up causing more ire. This is true for moderators and readers (remember we are an American English forum, but many other people do come here). Something that makes perfect, reasonable sense in American English might be offensive to someone who has not grown up here. Even regional differences within the US can be complicated. To pick a non-offensive example, in this area, when folks say "next Tuesday", they really mean not the very next Tuesday to come, but the one in the following week. (or that when Europe posts 1-3-2016, they mean the first of March, not January 3rd). Terms like "manure" or "bloody" are not at all offensive in the US, but could be (depending on the context), elsewhere .. and if someone is using a translation program, its even worse, in part because context is not as clear. I was dismissed by a chick as a mentor and reported as being "offensive" because I told a chick they could "sell manure". Though the complaint was not validated, (that is, I got no penalty other than having the chick dismiss me-- in fact only found out why from another party what had happened), it did serve as a lesson to me.

I would far, far rather server space and moderator time, be used for something else.

In short, the gain for Farmerama in having a steam room is far outweighed by the negatives.

Sorry, but again, my vote is "no".

I agree with you woody. I was a chatroom monitor for many years. I can vouch for how fast things can get out of hand. Especially if someone has an axe to grind. I too think a steam room here would not be in our best interests. If I get to feeling the need to vent, I'll step outside and howl at the moon!
