That is a misfact DBAYES. I am a neighbour of China and I know it to have as much freedom of speech as we have in our country. And you should keep in mind that neighbours are never on good terms.

 

@12ss12, I don't get what you mean? China's "Freedom of Speech" is limited though, thus requires moderation. I have Google, LOL!

 

I gave up on the moderators here when they archived an open technical issue without seeing it to full resolution.

I would like to endorse what 12ss12 posted, I haven't always agreed with that poster, but I have always thought them helpful and courteous. The posts regarding the events always, always were better, more accurate and more informative than the FAQs.

I do know that mods are human but they are also in a position of power and that means they do have to put their personal opinions to one side and not let it colour their judgement. The wisdom comes in knowing when to act for the good of the community and when not to act out of a personal desire to exercise control for its own sake, or for other reasons not obvious to an outsider (which is why circling the wagons and refusing to admit errors is never good idea, especially when dealing with intelligent, reasoning adults who in most cases pay money towards playing this game. If you expect respect then give it, it's not an automatic right, merely because you happen to be in a volunteer position of authority.

I have been here since mid 2010, I used to post under a different name, but changed it when the forum changed and I returned after an absence - for no other reason than I change my clothes, I felt like it. That said, I've seen a lot of posters come and go, vociferous and in some cases rowdy and unreasonable in their opinions about others. These were swiftly, effectively, but most of all appropriately dealt with by the team of Mods. What I've noticed since I returned is a change in how mods deal with dissent and it's not for the benefit of the players or posters. I don't understand some of the mod's decisions, they seem capricious at best. I don't care why the mods act like they do, and I'm not going to speculate, defend or justify them or their decisions and responses, I just note it happened.

Things never remain the same and they shouldn't; this game has changed so dramatically, that leaving for a while meant checking the FAQs to find out how to do things, that should be relatively easy, but I found it confusing at best. I did manage because I had been playing for years previously, but I wonder how newbies cope sometimes, since there's no real cataloguing of FAQs and no sense to their order either - it seems neither alphabetical nor timeline determined - and no way of finding what you need quickly (the search engine is limited at best). You have to understand from experience how to find a particular subject. That means that any questions should be answered with patience and effectiveness - sadly, this seems to be lacking. Which is why the players' help is often sought.

I realise the mods may feel under fire currently and that their efforts are unappreciated, but (and there's always a but unfortunately, when things aren't going well) players and adults don't get restless and unruly if they are treated fairly I know because I've been there.

Is it so bad to post things that are on public display elsewhere, that it requires banning of the subject or deleting posts?

Now, I'm off to my real life of dealing with students reluctant to work, and trying to impart knowledge and learning to some who think they already know more than I.

I got up, fixed my coffee, sat down to drink it and found no laughter, no fun, nothing but empty rooms and deadening silence. I had already given up for the most part 1 farm. Each day that passes I find myself less and less excited about farming lettuce. The goals I had set for myself less interesting. The community was such a large part of this game and now it is no longer here for the most part. Lots of questions for problems that only BigPoint can fix.
A lot of rambling and post may very well be deleted but not sure if I really care anymore.

not long ago a german (hope i can say german ) scientist, who died recently, said that close systems are stupid systems. to be inventive and creative you must allow disturbances, and in other term, disturber .. which not means that any disturber is for everybody a disturbance. because brains react in very effective way. he talked about self-healing processes and compared internet with an enormous brain ..
