Thank you all for your lovely comments.
The brown reindeer in last post is Twiglet (who is Lexi & Lotte's Mother). She is a very pretty reindeer but one who doesn't go out on exhibit as although she will lead on a rope she doesn't do touching. Trying to medicate her is always fun as she punches if you try to touch her!! She will eat from hand and you can stroke her nose while doing it but apart from that beware!! :) (If off lead rope, she won't punch just when she can't run away when you try to touch her)

Today's photo is Katya (Loki & Hector's mother & the absolute opposite to Twiglet). You can do anything you want with her, she'll go in lifts, let children hang off her and she'd follow me through a ring of fire if I asked.. Her antler are nowhere near as pretty, I think partly as she has only had very hungry male calves. Calves are being fed as antlers grow but she is also a year younger. She's still pretty
    though :)

Being the dummy that I am:p I never put 1 and 1 together! The fact that as they are nursing babies,
they are also growing new antlers, hence the difference in their size and growth! So today was not a total waste lol as I did learn something new!xD;) Katya is still beautiful!:inlove:

Thanks Karen for the wonderful pic of your beautiful Katya!!!!;) No wonder she is so docile......she birthed and raised Hector. You'd have to be an extremely patient mum to put up with his antics! :p

And we are both still being patient with him (reindeer and human Mum).
Katya is such an unbelievable "mother". This year I caught her feeding two of this year's calves and Hector also (he's her previous years calf) - Hector was 10" taller than her but he had his knees bent!!! (reindeer have small udders but with 4 teats). No wonder her antlers suffered!

What moms give up or go without for their children? :p
I wish we could find a tiara to fit on Katya (between her antlers).:D She is definitely the Queen Mum of your reindeer flock!:inlove:

Maybe it is so soon to tell you about January. I don't think you should lose hope just yet, I am sure someone is going to ask for him and for January:)
(And if nothing works out, bring him to me to brighten my birthday on 26 of January:p:p;))

Ariel if you are close we would come... :)

A fellow reindeer owner, locally. (Privacy settings have since said I can't share) but they have just lost a baby reindeer due to it eating a pooh bag that blown into their paddocks.
    So very very sad.
Only today I have been madly picking up polystyrene from my paddocks (that has been blown into their fields before they ate it)...
So scary, please don't drop rubbish in the countryside, it kills our animals. [IMG]:(
Sorry not an upbeat post... but... rubbish kills our babies... :(

    >:(>:(>:(Οh these people who pollute the environment! Many also leave their rubbish at the beach or in the sea and a lot of fish have problems. A clean environment helps everyone not just the animals, but some people understand that...
Very close, only a few countries away:p I live in Greece. But that was a very kind offer of you:)

    Hector update..
Vet came out at my request today as I have been worried about his weight loss... Bloods will take a couple of weeks to come back but he got a very thorough check.. Temp normal, rumen working wonderfully (complete with several burps in vets face.. :) ) stools perfect consistency but also sent them off in case he has become resistant to wormers, vet commented on how good his coat was and how lively. Vet thinks (until bloods come back) that his weight loss is entirely due to him being a young boy and he can only think about one thing at this time of year s*x as he is perfect condition apart from weight...
I thought same thing but needed to cover all bases as I can't loose any and certainly not my baby Hector...

Very good news. (How did you handle Hector to keep the raging hormones from attacking the vet?) :)

I think it is a good call to have the vet check on Hector! I know how you worry, and how he has been losing weight, I too hope it is just a very young male having too much of a good thing! (the girls!);)
At least these tests will put all our minds are ease, as you know how much we all :inlove::inlove::inlove: Hector!
and in case there is something wrong treatment could be started! Fingers crossed all is well!;)

I also think that you were right in getting the vet to check Hector. We certainly don't want anything to be wrong with that gorgeous boy. It will hopefully put your mind at rest as well.
