    He was a silly little bird. I found him at a persons house that named him Aileen because he had found him hurt and broken and the bird would just lean and fall over. He kept him in an aquarium. It was so sad.
    I talked the guy into giving me the bird and promptly changed his name and took him to the vet who said he was days away from dying. They kept him for 5 days but could not fix his wing as it had already healed, but he was much better.
    I never caged him his whole life. He had a cage and would go in it sometimes
    but he usually drank from the water bowl with our cat. One time we took a picture because the cat was sitting in the cage and the bird was sitting on top LOL
    We took him on a trip to the smoky mountains where he decided to take a float trip down the river lol
    He loved his baths!! (I rescued him.)
    He ate at the dinner table with us from his own little plate and ate everything we ate. chicken, meat, vegetables, rice, potatoes.
    Just anything and everything. He even would get an occasional drink of soda from the rim of one of our soda cans lol And he loved to share coffee in the morning with my husband. That bird would actually gulp the coffee like it was the best thing in the world.
    One day, a puppy was running around out in front of our house so I called it because I had never seen it before and I thought it was lost and it came running in our house, snapped my birds neck in a split second and ran out the back door into our back yard.
    Never in a million years would I have thought that would happen. When the owners came with their children to pick up their puppy who had snuck out, we didn't even tell them what the puppy had done. If I would have had the bird in a cage....maybe it would not have been hurt . Couldn't blame the dog really, he was just being a dog ~
    Even though that day was horrible and I'll never forget it, we have years and years of great memories

    i kept one fox and one bobcat...that's all I've caught in four years...when they start to get over populated and the squirrels in the forest aren't enough is when i catch them. i'm getting them stuffed so i have them...it's hard to explain why i wanted to stuff them, probably because that's the only way i get to touch them...i only wanted one of each though. i have released lots of opossums though:). and when i kept those ones i shot them with a small caliber rifle they died instantly so they didn't suffer...that just very, very barbaric to me..a small hole delivered to the right place won't hurt the hides and less chance of just wounding or brain damaging the poor thing. theres no need to make them suffer.
    on a better note. i went for my first evening hunt the other day and the woods were alive with life. there was a big palliated woodpecker fly by and i found deer and turkey signs there were lots of different birds that landed close to me and the woods and meadows are beautiful. the trees are becoming more distinctive in their color and the evenings are cool enough that i need a jacket. when the sun was going down you could here the owls talking to each other. it was heaven

    CylentLea123, That must have been very heart breaking then.

    Here we call parakeets as parrots/green parrots (Paingkili). But in Zoological parks they are termed as parakeets. We call the macaw as ivannakili or panchavarna kili.
    kili = parrot,
    i, pancha = 5
    vannam = colour

    When I was a child, we lived in quarters/flats. There was a parakeet in our opposite flat. Both our houses were in second floor & above that there was no floor or steps. So the parakeet was left free. It would hop & come to our house. We had lots of carrom coins in wood. It would peck them & all our coins became damaged. But we didn't care. The parrot name was dolly. Sometimes it would peck our hands. That was fun too.

    When I was in college, a injured parakeet came to my friends house & she started keeping it as pet. She named it Yaani after the singer who then visited India. After some months the parrot flew away.

    8)Love your stories about Casper, Lea! What wonderful memories you have of him!
    Yes, it is almost unimaginable what happened...shocking, even. I really respect your attitude toward the offending party...the ability to forgive is a Divine one, especially in the face of the loss of a family member, as Casper was.
    I hope you will find happiness in sharing that wonderful bird with us. Would love to hear as many more stories as you have....(and I know they must be many!!):inlove::)

    8)Such good stories too, 12/12! Kudos to your friend for taking in that injured little bird!!
    Yanni is one of my favorite musicians still...loved his World Concert in Greece, 'Live at the Acropolis', some years back, and have it on video!!

    8)Ahhhh, yes, leannkat, NOW is such a gorgeous time for walking, seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling all the 'Fabulous Fall' sensory inputs - so rich and special!! A walk in the brilliantly colored woods, crunchy leaves underfoot, earthy smells rising up with each footfall.....bird calls and the scampering of little feet echoing your own - maybe even a glimpse of a larger animal watching you watching him....

    No wonder so many like Fall as their favorite Season!! OH!...And did I mention Pumpkin Pie?? And Apple Pie?? And .......:music:What's that?? Tuuuur-keeey???

    This is a old stone grinding machine. I have seen this in my grandmother's place when I was small. Now I do not know where it went. But when I visited my relative house, I found another one.

    You see a small stone in the middle. Remove it. Put your grains in it. And turn the stone round with the handle. The seeds will be ground to flour and come threw the gap between bottom stone & top stone.

    8)Lol! Sounds a lot like near Buffalo, N.Y.!! I used to live along the Niagara Gorge in Lewiston, N.Y., just on top of the Escarpment, and remember well how the area around Buffalo used to get buried at the drop of a snowflake!!
