how many of u like mangoes ?? u know i love mangoes a lot and
    • Mangos were first grown in India over 5,000 years ago
    • Mango seeds traveled with humans from Asia to the Middle East, East Africa and South America beginning around 300 or 400 A.D.
    • Mango is commonly known as the king of all fruits. It is the national fruit of India. It is grown from March to October and there are more than 100 varieties of mangoes in India. It is available in different shapes, sizes and colours too. There are many interesting facts about mangoes that Boldsky will share with you in this article.
In India, people make the best use of mango and its tree. You will find that in almost all Indian homes, a jar of mango pickle will address the dining table. From pickles to milk shakes, desserts, ice creams, smoothies, pies, juices and a lot more different edible items are made with this juicy fruit.

    • Apart from the sweet pulp, there are other interesting facts about mangoes in regard to the leaves and the bark. The leaves of mango is often used ritually for decorations at ceremonies and even weddings in different Indian cultures. All the essential nutrients such as carbohydrates, sugar, dietary fiber, vitamins, iron, calcium and many other important minerals are found in this juicy fruit, mango. It also provides an anti-oxidant property which in turn helps to protect us from various diseases.

The 'Must Have' Types of Mangoes: 1. Alphanso Mangoes: Lets begin with the King of mangoes himself. These mangoes that grow in the Ratnagiri district of Maharastra are the pride and glory of Indian mangoes. The massive mangoes with a typical aroma are locally called 'Hapoos'. Most of the mango exports are made from this variety.
    • 2. Langra: These types of mangoes from the East have a weird name. The name literally translates to 'lame'. But there is no lame reason for calling Langra one of most popular varieties of Mangoes. It is smaller than the Alphanso and much sweeter in taste. They are usually greenish in colour and look unripe even when they are fully ripe.
    • 3. Lalbaug: Surprising this breed of mangoes that grow in and around Bangalore shares its name with a famous botanical garden in the same city. We do not know if the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore has anything to do with the name, but the mangoes do taste like botanical marvels!
    • 4. Badami: If you have an insatiable sweet tooth then you should go for this variety of South Indian mangoes. They are almost sugary sweet and look a bit twisted. Nothing like a bite of these Chennai mangoes on a hot summer evenings.
    • 5. Kesar: Moving over to the north, you find the Kesar mangoes from the state of Gujrat and the region of Saurashtra. This mango is famously called Kesar, meaning 'saffron', due to its intoxicating smell. This type of mangoes thrive well in hot sultry weather and the tropical climate of Gujrat serves it well.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

We grow Mangoes in Fl. ,also. I love them. Sometimes we eat them green and not quite ripe. They are not sweet then but kind of sour and crunchy. I love them both ways.

I like to eat raw mangoes with salt & red chilli powder. My grandfather used to grind rock salt & red chilli in stone Ammikallu and smear it over raw mangoes slices and give us for eating. So tasty. He died last year. He was 94 years.

We make Mango kuzhambu or sambar. Sometimes Moringa (drumstick), mango & brinjal are combined to make sambar or Kuzhambu. Very tasty. It has too be had with rice, idly or dosa.

Hi solotime, Arielh & hoppy ! Apple (apple155) likes Mango :D

Arielh ! I wanted post my congratulations in your other thread. But I was somewhat busy. I will post in the coming week. Till then, Congratulation & all the best in entering college life.

This is the first time I hear about this combination! I will suggest it to my father who likes mangoes.
I am sorry about your grandfather but he died very old so it would have been easier for your family to deal with it right?

    Thank you for the congratulations:)

Yes Arielh ! Yes lived to his full. He might have lived another few years but got allergic to dust from building construction and died. Even then it is a ripe old age and we have good memories of him. As you say it was easier for us to deal with. You have to slice the raw mangoes and put salt & chilli powder to it.
