Been away all weekend and came back to see both happy and sad news. So sorry about Lotte's little one and hope she is recovering well.:( Thanks so much for the lovely video of Freddy; he was truly a magnificent stallion!

Congrats on the grand new boy!:D He is gorgeous, right down to his feet! Love the personality he is already showing as well, such an inquisitive little guy. Definitely Hector's boy!

Baby Freddy is doing beyond well (I think the first sleepfull night calf I have ever had - but I shouldn't tempt fate).

Lotte is still a worry, she is grieving (as are we)- (did I say we called baby albino girl Snowdrop & the are planted on her grave) and still hasn't delivered placenta completely, it has been half there all day (no sucking calf takes longer for hormones to get in gear).. She'll get there soon and cuddles will help her come round.. Twig and Ana are due in the next couple of days.. Katya about the 10th Elsa (and should have been Lotte) at the end of May...
Maybe a photo you haven't seen? There are so many

Poor Lotte, I feel so sad for her and you! I :inlove: the name snowdrop and it is very touching she should have them at her grave sight!:)
That is a beautiful picture of Freddy, he has such strong beautiful legs! He is just all over beautiful!:inlove:

I hope that you and Lotte are doing OK. That is a beautiful name for the little girl and as Sandollar has said very touching to have them at her grave. Freddy looks such a cuddly little boy!

Nothing exciting to report. Other girls still have their legs crossed, leaving me to do their worrying..
Elsa looking smug, I think she is enjoying the idea of finally becoming a mother but she has a few weeks to go.

Freddy is doing really well and getting around quite quickly now - poor Mischa but my best pictures are always when he's laying down.

Edit, me thinks Freddy's new fans may like to see this - only just uploaded to hosting site... Even at this close range I couldn't decide if he was grooming or grazing but maybe he couldn't either!

OMG he is just to cute! I think he was doing both. Grooming was what he intended to do but that green stuff (giggle giggle) kept getting in the way!
Elsa really does have a smug look on her face! lol But she also looks very content too!

No news today... girls still hanging on! :(
Freddy is thriving and Lotte finally passed her placenta this afternoon, so hopefully she will start to feel better soon.

Well Karen, outside of a healthy birth, that is the best news ever! :) I really hope Lotte starts to feel better soon! And Little Freddy is just so precious! Thanks for the up date! :))

Glad to hear the news about Lotte. I also hope that she will feel better soon. Are you going to keep little Freddy. I know that you have promised the people in Scotland 2 little boys, but Freddy is so special!

I think that all of Karen's herd are special but there's an extra little issue with bull calves. If Karen can only keep one 'entire ' bull for breeding at a time, who would you prefer to be 'fixed', Hector or Freddy? Because that is the kind of choice Karen will be facing with 4 more births still to come. So let's just enjoy the babies while we are able as I'm sure she has enough to worry about for the next month, without trying to pin her down to making choices so early in the breeding season.

Actually I was not trying to "pin Karen down" and I am perfectly well aware of the issues in keeping bull calves thank you! Of course all of Karen's herd are special!!!

I apologise to the group for my somewhat outspoken comments earlier. I was not trying to offend anyone and am really sorry if that is how my comments came across. Guess I need to take more care about how my comments can be taken.

Great photos of Freya and Lexi and Freddy gets cuter every day!
So are we sure they all didn't swallow a beach ball?!xD they will give birth when nature tells them too, so we will just have to wait!:p:music:Have you ever had two of them birth in the same day?!

Not yet Sand BUT tomorrow I'm expecting TWO Beach Balls... Lets set up our own beach volley ball team. HeeHee :)

As to a second boy... I have invested silly amounts of money this year putting new fences in so that I can try to cope with a second entire boy, Eeek :( Any I keep of my own breeding would have to be castrated but I need to try to buy one in (or do a calf swap) - it is my top priority once I see what calves are born/survive. So sorry folks, three babies may have go to live elsewhere but I will ensure they only go to the very best of homes and hopefully updates of their progress can be made from time to time. x

Edit... Love all your comments and your following my little herd. I am sure nobody meant any ill will, as we are all lovely people ;) .. And if I do buy in a bull calf - we can all sleep easy this Autumn (Fall) but if we still have this chat going next year, then you will see me turning grey overnight, a stockpile of Herres fencing for panic repair to normal fence line, a Kevlar suit for me and maybe hundred of girls to keep the boys so exhausted that they haven't the energy to fight through the fence.... Heehee ... I have a little time to sort my tactics! :(

Great news for maybe tomorrow! You better get some rest tonight and get your running shoes on!:p
I think you have a team already, just drop a ball or two into the herd and watch the fun!;)
As for the little ones maybe going elsewhere, I was fortunate enough to be here for last years babies, and the one thing I know for sure, is that none of your babies will go to a bad home! So, I for one, will :inlove: them all while they are here, and send good thoughts and prayers with them as they go! And always :inlove::inlove: the herd that is here! And we all have our favorites, but they are all special!;)

Freddy is just so cute! I have a ton of urgent stuff to do here but I want to drop it all to come and boop him. Oh well, I'll have to settle for booping the photos.

8)I agree with Sanddollar, and know you will do whatever you feel is best for your herd.

I'd like to offer an observation about Freddy....he really is something special, because he was born so strong and handsome and very well formed right from the beginning! He will have the ability to strengthen the gene pool - a valuable asset to any herd!
I sincerely hope that his exceptional strength does not get snipped away! He truly has a lot to offer, improving the herd wherever he goes...(or stays! Lol:music::inlove:) It will be so interesting to watch him develop!!:inlove::)
Thank you so much for sharing this thread with us, Karen.....we have all grown to just love your beautiful herd...and watching it grow!! Like NOW!! :D:D Can hardly wait to see who has what!!:inlove:
(How is dear (deer) Lotte?? Is she recovering o.k.??)

    Still no new babies! [IMG]:(

Freddy update, he is grazing well now, his little antler nubs have started to grow and he's starting to poop without Mischa stimulating his bottom but you should see the look on his face when he does! [IMG]:)
The family group - Hector, in the rear, is far ahead in his annual moult (partly because when he's being a pain I hand strip his coat) so looking moth eaten but his body condition is coming back nicely now after the Rut/Winter.
In Europe, we have about 50% dark brown calves but we are lucky that the rest can have some unusual markings - Freddy, will be mainly brown, as an adult but with a bit of white on the very end of his nose & white nasal hairs in left nostril (see picture below). I think whichever calf was born first would seem the best to us all. ;)
In USA, their calves are all shades of dark brown, barring one strain who get the occasional skewbalds (pinto's) which we do not get, so envious of those. I would love to know where these originated from but owners are not sure..
    Sleeping beauty. :)
