    8) Well, it has been kind of crazy weather this winter season. It has been cold, cloudy and rainy all week...but today is all sunshine and sparkle!! Sooo refreshing and pretty - positively uplifting after all that wet gloom!!

I was out of sun-purified water (no sun for days!) but actually saw the sun this morning, so quickly put out 5 bottles on the deck dining table in expectation.....Jackpot!!!:D The sun has engulfed them and is glinting off them like diamonds!! Beee-u-ti-ful!!!!:inlove::D
Days like today, I feel like a sunflower - the way they lift themselves up to face the sunshine after a rain, and are rewarded by the flood of energy gifted by the sun!! Refreshed/purified - like the water in the bottles!! Oh, thank God for sunshine...and rain to show us the difference!!:inlove: :D

Yep!! You guessed it! A 'change in the weather'!
Well, it will be easy to see how quickly our crazy weather changes in these two posts!

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

But here's the good part -
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Yes, dear friends, Winter has decided to fight back!
Winter weather warnings are out, schools are closing. We're expecting 6-9 more inches of wet, heavy snow - possible power outages because the wet snow will be heavy - and it will continue from this morning until late tomorrow!
Right now, it is dark with wet, gloomy clouds, after soaking everything with a precursor rain...and you can almost feel the atmosphere of expectant storm!! It is very quiet....

After yesterday's weather - all sunshiney and bright, kids playing outside, neighbors visiting, gardens being checked for new growth......

YES! There is new growth - Spring's apparel being woven in the soil!
Iris are beginning to poke out of the ground; Lilies, too; and my Rose bush also has some green on it!

Nature is resilient, though, and they will survive this late winter snow and ice - flowers to grace the land.

    ...and-I-am-soooo-ready!!!:inlove:

Mad storm coming to us tomorrow!

Our drought is soooo bad, water restrictions severe, and now we have a crazy storm coming. Our schools have been closed! I believe this is quite normal in the US but it is NOT normal for us, it's unprecedented! We don't usually have storms bad enough to close schools.

Currently heading into winter here in Australia. Today it is sunny and blue skies so you might think it's a gorgeous day but nope, still freezing (at least by our Australian standards!) I have a habit of turning purple when I get cold and last night despite driving home with my heater on, I turned purple getting from the car to inside the house...but I'm at least glad it's not raining and the outside is pretty to look at even if it's deceptively cold. I do live in Melbourne though, which is known for it's four seasons in one day, so I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if in a few hours there are grey clouds and pouring rain. That's Melbourne for you!

Maybe our storm will head to Melbourne once it's done with us!

Well, the storm kept me (and the whole city, it seems) awake all night. Still howling. And apparently the worst is yet to come. First time I've ever been scared by weather while inside. Sooo glad I'm at home today.
It was dead calm and still, blue skies, the afternoon before the storm hit.
But our dams are nearly empty... so hopefully lots of rain over catchment areas.

Facebook has activated a safety check for our storm. I can't think of a time when Facebook had to activate a safety check for my country before (unless my memory is failing me)...

@farmlily3 Sorry! Only saw this now. Was so focused on the Knysna fire.
The storm caused damage in a few areas, roads were closed, it was actually okay where I live.
    Thank you for asking!

I am glad we had bearable temperatures these days, it is very hard to focus and study when it is warm(apart from the other distractions we have because it is summer... I still haven't been swimming!). Though today it reached 30°C and I still have a week exams...

But I am very worried for students in Lesvos and Chios and of course for all the residents. There have occurred strong and long lasting earthquakes! A village(Plomari) is fully destroyed! These students in Lesvos and Chios didn't have exams today, schools closed and they still experience earthquakes.
The exams I am now writing they are the same for all Greeks students my age and we all write the same days but in Lesvos and Chios have been postponed.

squigglegiggle and Anie I hope you are fine! I hope the weather will be better for your country. So is it winter there? Which months students usually have summer holidays?

@Arielh It is meant to be winter here but the cold weather and rain took very long to start! It is now cold - well, cold for us :) But not enough rain. Dams only 11% full even after a few days of rain and a big storm.

I am sorry about the earthquakes. I have been focused on other news this past week and I did not know about them! Do earthquakes happen often in Greece?

Our school year and holidays are different to the northern hemisphere, I think. Our school year is from January to December. Our long summer holidays are in December and a bit of January. For the school children and varsity students. The rest of us have to work!

Yes they happen but they are usually not strong and they last very little. But unfortunately sometimes tragedies like that happen...
I have experienced many earthquakes over the years but they only last less than a minute.

Actually having a summer here; a proper one with sun and no rain - most unusual for the UK, therefore we must complain about it being too hot!

TCRooster - we too enjoyed a summer's day yesterday. Today in Cornwall I sat in the sun with the edge of a huge thunderstorm just over our house. It thundered for about two hours, then on the News tonight heard that Coverack which is some way south of us, had flash flooding and a couple had to be winched by helicopter from their house. Here we did not get even one spot of rain! I had to get the watering can out to water my pots.

Having a nice summer here in Northwest Florida. Actually raining every week, which is a break from the droughts we have experienced for much of the last few summers.:D
