Way to go Loki!xD He too is an amazing reindeer,:inlove: and a tribute to you and your great beginning
for both him and Thor! And of course then Ythanbank continuing with their great care and love! I am hoping this time next year that might be Frodo!;)

You must be very proud that Thor and Loki have grown into such fantastic young men. It is also obvious that Ythanbank take great care of them as well.

Wasn't it Loki who had his mama chasing after him almost as soon as he could walk?
    Beautiful Big Baby Boys! :inlove:

:inlove:Thor and Loki are magnificent! They are obviously thriving, with super care-giving by Ythanback. :)

Blessings going your way as you begin the journey with Frodo. He will soon realize what a wonderful new home he has! I have every confidence that you will give him the best life possible.

For those asking about Frodo and if picture was just a bad angle I have taken some more pictures (showing his true body condition). It is dire unfortunately.. He is loving his willow and lichen but only picking at pellets but he is eating haylage... I can't wait for vet to come, just hoping he can find an answer. I am sure it will do him so much good to get out with the rest of the herd but at the moment I just daren't risk it in case his problem is contagious. He is a worry and he will continue to be a major worry - no quick fix here.

He's a lovely boy but I worry that he is a little too calm. I'm not sure how to explain but my best is to compare with Hector as you know Hector was very cuddly & tame but he still had "ooomph" - he would gallop and race about, when he said hello you'd know it but Frodo isn't happy being touched but he will gently come and sniff to see if I have lichen but there is no "go" in him. If I move quickly he'll run but just a "flight" instinct. Mostly he just lays down or quietly mooches. (if he was still in a wild herd he'd be the predator breakfast. No fight left in him and usually in reindeer that means they have given up) .. It is really scary, I hope he finds a little fight as once they give up there is nothing us humans can do.. :(

(Lilaclady - I thought we were linked on FB but I can't find were. Was it reindeer page?)- no worries I just needed to get FB to host these pics without putting them for Public viewing as I don't want someone just glancing in to think this is what MY reindeer look like! Anyway sent them to hubby via FB messenger - he's just questioned why I have sent him random photo's of Frodo.. I daren't tell him it's to keep my "Game Friends" updated ;)... Not everyone understands Virtual Farms! Heehee

Karen I thought we were linked on FB on reindeer page, also FB messenger, but have just sent new friend request. Poor Frodo he does really need all your care and love. I hope that when the Vet has done all the blood tests that he finds nothing seriously wrong, and that you can give Frodo what he might need to build him up.

Oh dear, poor Frodo! I hope he was not mistreated to make him so shy! He does look like he has lost his will! I am really hoping after the vet sees him, that he is healthy and not a threat to your herd, and then you can go about making your magic, and bringing him back to a happy more healthy reindeer! You do have your work cut out for you!;)

Best wishes to you Karen as you try to rehabilitate Frodo. Perhaps it is just a nutrient deficiency that will show up on his blood work that can easily be overcome with a proper diet. When you looked at his previous food sources that his owners were feeding, was it adequate? Did it provide any clues as to his current condition? Did they own other reindeer or was he their only? If there were others, what were their condition? If they were ok, I would worry there is something going on with him. Big hugs and both puppy paws crossed for your vet check.

In time, your calm and quiet voice with slow movements that offer reassurance rather than pressure plus the trust the others in the herd show towards you will win him over. Bless him, he looks tired. Even though the trip home went well, I'm sure it was stressful for him and it will take time to adjust to his new surroundings. It is a good thing you rescued him as I am not certain he would have made it through another winter with his previous owners.

Good luck to you! We are all rooting for you to work your reindeer magic on him. Thanks for keeping us all updated. :)

These are good "before" pictures.o_O Hopefully when Vet check is done....and as pnp said, you work your "reindeer magic" on him, he will start to thicken up. :music: Then perhaps his personality and trust will shine through.;)

Poor boy Frodo! Strange people, unfamiliar surroundings, everything must be a bit overwhelming for him.
He needs some time to learn to trust you, get to know the rest of the herd and then he will realize what he missed out all along.
Then all of us can see the real Frodo. The very best of luck to you to nurse him back to where he should have been in the first place.
I know YOU can do it.

Frodo, I just don't know yet..
Where he came from, money wasn't an object. She had 5 - three large castrate who looked healthy... Frodo that looked on his last legs and a small castrate with also very poor body condition and coat - just like Frodo.. She is an animal lover BUT not a animal husbander if you understand the difference... She had some odd ideas.. ie about penning them in stable overnight until dew off grass or if raining.. I am just HOPING his problems (and her tiny, skinny castrate) are just worm burdens, trace element deficiency and bullying by Big Guys overnight but it could be very serious TB or Brucillosis etc..
Something is seriously wrong with Frodo and one of her castrates... I don't know what yet... so puzzling but I am obviously trying to find out for me (and Frodo) but if I find answer I will share with her to tr to keep her retained boy alive...
Reindeer are tricky, I only have a few weeks to get weight on him... once Winter sets in any reindeer will only lose weight whatever you feed... so don't get too attached as the odds are VERY long. :(

Thank you for the up-date Karen. Sound advice. I can't think of another person who would take on the challenge of healing
dear Frodo. Take care of you, too.

If Frodo's tests all come out o.k., will he then be introduced to the herd? Will Frodo have a problem with this, do you think? Do you think the herd will accept him o.k.?

Not get attached? Impossible! Though we are not on the ground with you each day, we love your herd as you have made them a part of our extended farming family with your Reindeer Tales and pictures. We are excited by your wonderful news and new babies each year and we are saddened by the trauma of your losses.

We've all fallen in love with your reindeer and everyone loves an underdog. We are all rooting for you and Frodo!

Fingers crossed everything turns out for the best! And YES we ARE ALL rooting for Frodo, and you, and your herd!;)

I know being with you will give Frodo his best chance. May you have extra blessings of strength and wisdom, in proportion to the kindness of your heart. As Pnp said, we are already committed to Frodo - and are pulling with you for his recovery. I hope answers come in time to help the other tiny castrate in poor condition as well.

Oh P&P... tears in my eyes with what you said... I will try my best to get him through but just needed to warn everyone that it really is a long shot...
I panicked today as I can only get him to eat lichen ravenously and it has very low calorific value.. So I have moved the rest of my herd away from his enclosure into a different paddock and let him out into paddock and grazing... How I will catch him for vet check on Wednesday I don't know but if he won't eat pellets & very little haylage then he needs graze and browse... Problem for tomorrow, practising catching him up for vet!!! :(
