We were having a very hot and dry summer until last week.
A lot of places in Greece had storms and raining resulting in floods and other destruction. In my place we only had rain for a day but we still had a power cut... you can understand that Greece is not used in having rain in the summer:p
I want to share a picture from Metsovo, a town in northern Greece, which had hail!

Thankfully bad weather only lasted a day or two.

What happened in Kos two days ago though is a real tragedy. A very intense earthquake around 6.7 Richter destroyed buildings and 2 tourists died... there were many people injured and some had to be transferred in the mainland or in other bigger islands's hospitals. Also hundreds of residents and tourists spent Friday night sleeping outdoors on the island, too afraid to return to their homes or hotels after the quake that struck early Friday. Many camped out in parks and olive groves, or slept in their cars or on beach and swimming pool lounge chairs. The aftershocks Saturday night meant that many would spend a second night outdoors.

What is also very surprising is that a mother with her daughter had been in the Manchester for Ariana Grande's concert and they chose to come in Kos for their vacation and they came now so they experienced the earthquake! This is called bad luck!

Moreover the mayor of Kos decided to offer free transportation to all tourists so they can enjoy the rest of their vacation on the island.

The earthquake is the second big earthquake in Greece during summer. Last month it was in Chios and Lesvos...

Arielh - I was watching a news channel when the earthquake was first reported. Sent prayers up for all involved, and a special one for you in case you were near the area. So sad to hear of the tragedy.

Willow I live in an island in the island but not from that side so thankfully I wasn't near.
I am also sorry for these people, Greeks living in that side of the Aegean have experienced many problems lately:(

Apparently England has had the coldest summer for 35 years. I am wearing my winter clothes, have a little heater on in the evening and still feel cold. We saw the sun for a short while this morning but grey clouds again. Hope my washing dries outside.
As Cornwall is a popular holiday destination, I feel really sorry for the holiday makers although with about 300 miles of coastline they should find a sheltered spot. There are some lovely beaches, cliff top walks (a 600 mile coastal path round the south west of England) and of course our mining heritage.

Been a hot, dry summer here. We had temps in the 90s non-stop from mid June all the way to the first week of August, which is unusual. We usually get hot in July, but not day after day with no relief. The last 2 weeks have been variable, with average temps in the low 80s, but now we're supposed to go back to the 90s. -.- And of course smoke in the air from wildfires. I really wish summer would end, like, right now. :p And I promise to not whine about winter until at least April, lol.

I'm sorry to hear about the earthquake, Ariel, I hope the area is recovering. :inlove: In the wee hours of my father-in-law's 93rd birthday back in July, we had a 5.9 earthquake, followed by another (can't remember the magnitude, think it was high 4s) moments later. I was laying on the living room floor when it hit, was a strange sensation, and felt like it went on a long time, tho I'm sure it was only a matter of less than a minute. No damage to us, thankfully, but very strange. Husband called his dad to make sure he was okay, and joked that it wasn't everyone the earth moved for on their birthday.

    8) America has had a double whammy in the last 2-3 weeks!! First Hurricane Harvey hits the Texas Gulf Coast - which hasn't had time to recover yet - and now....the biggest hurricane ever formed in the Atlantic, Hurricane Irma, category 5! So far it has devastated the Islands south of America, leaving at least one, Barbuda, 95% destroyed, and leaving many dead over the Islands.
It is going right up the Florida Peninsula of America as I write this. Florida has been evacuated - the largest evacuation in American history!! Storm surges are predicted up to 12 feet!!
This is a Monster storm. It is hitting Florida now, as I write this - Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Please offer prayers for our dear Farming friends who live in Florida:inlove::cry::inlove: - as well as all the others who have already been devastated by this huge Hurricane.:cry::cry:

Mexico has had an 8.1 Earthquake, with aftershocks up to 5.0!:eek: They also need our prayers...:inlove:
This is a sad time. More large earthquakes are expected along the Pacific coast.

Edit: Update Sunday night.....Death toll for earthquake has reached 90.:cry:

:inlove: As a Florida farmer, thanks to all for prayers and good wishes for us and all those facing a hard time from natural disasters. Those further south than me are likely offline with power outages right now, and I will be signing off this afternoon (unless the power signs off for me earlier):p.

As a Florida farmer, also, Thank you all for your thoughts and good wishes. We are just hunkered down and waiting for Irma. We should be OK. Lots of wind and rain but I don't think we will have flooding. we are in a curfew from 7pm today to Monday at 6pm. Long time!! Hope the power isn't off for long. Stay safe everyone.

Sending prayers out to all our Florida farmers and friends. Please be careful and keep us posted. Harvey hit the area where I was born and raised so have a lot of family and friends there. As all of us from hurricane states know we feel so small when faced with such brute force. Then so many have to find the courage to pick up the pieces and start over. Will keep all covered in prayer and pray all others play out over the water this season. So sad that one lineman from another state was killed in Texas. Please remember his family in your prayers.
Sorry wanted to post as blessedlady.

Is everyone okay out there? Are all our farmers accounted for? Hopefully everyone is wet, soaked and soggy, but still here......

I have family in North Houston and was keeping an eye on hurricane Harvey, and have another relative in Georgia. Trying to contact her for her status as well.

Power up and got internet in early hours, so finished the event by the skin of my teeth!o_O

Thanks to all for the good wishes and prayers - they definitely helped! Storm eyewall began to break up when it hit mainland Florida and it rapidly lost strength, much faster than predicted! Lots of water & wind issues in south and central Florida - and Jacksonville area:wuerg:.

My area had tropical storm winds, loss of power and telephone service (some places still out), but no reports of flooding yet. Very thankful for the drop in strength of the storm!

Hope others will report in soon!

    8)Has anyone heard from shellhappybj???
She igm'd me that she would keep me informed, and she was.....but I have heard nothing since right before the storm hit her area!
Shelly, if you're out there and are able - please let us know you are o.k.!:inlove:

Edit: Wednesday early a.m......still nothing from shellhappybj.......I'm hoping it is just a prolonged power outage....

Marly posted in the Date Night strategy thread today, so she's ok :) But, I don't think sanddollar15 has checked in yet, either. There are still a lot of people without power in Florida. Hopefully, utilities will be restored soon and they can let us know they're ok. Keeping good thoughts for everyone until then:inlove:
