Hi Karen, I am happy Frodo is moving in the right direction!:inlove: Like everything else, he did not get that way over night so unfortunately he will not get all better over night:cry: But like you say, headed in the right direction!;) Don't forget to give yourself some of that wonderful care you give your reindeer!;)

I looked back at some earlier photos of Frodo and I do see some improvement. You have made his life better and we all hope for the best. Excited for you that there is a possibility of a bull for your girls. Wishing the best for you!:)

Baby Storm practicing his dressage moves.. Excuse the shakes, my little camera wobbles when on zoom!

9.5 on the extended trot. I'd give him a ten but the head carriage is a bit high. ;)

I would give Storm a 10, just because he is so beautiful, and carried his tail up and flagged beautifully!:inlove: He looks like a very happy boy!xD

Can't remember who questioned tail flagging many month ago and thought it was a sign of stress... All I thought about at the time was to show it could be happiness, was calves feeding and flagging their tails..
Happy reindeer flag their tails when playing (or flirting).. I guess they would also when seriously stressed and running from predators but my lot never have those issues, so flag their tails when in "happy mode" as I hope you can all see from video.. :) Don't think Storm is stressed (His mother Elsa maybe - but she isn't flagging tail, just sighing deeply :) )!

Storm being mamas first, sighing seems low-key. :) Elsa must have resigned herself to this Bouncy Baby Boy. :music:

Well I've taken the next step and released Frodo from quarantine, I just couldn't wait for vet any longer as he needed to get out on pasture, and be part of a herd. His miny herd is at the moment just Lotte and Lexi, who shouldn't bully him but at the moment they want to get back to the main herd and there is no love gong on..

PS don't travel in my shoes.. Tigga needed a Tape worm wormer, as last one I used (sheep), the worm was resistant.. Only alternative vet found was a horse wormer. I asked a very lovely and reliable horse friend to help. It had to be from a different active ingredient to last wormer and happened to be a horse one.. Gradient on syringe plunger... I set for 45mils (for baby Tigga's weight) Whole tube was for horse (in excess of 600 mils).. Between us we caught her with little stress, I straddled and opened mouth. friend asked were wormer was and would administer. She thought plunger had stuck so pushed it really hard, so instead of giving under 50 ml she pushed past gauge and administered over 600ml!!! Only a second of mistake...Talk about major panic, I saw immediately that plunger went completely in and in access of 10 times dose ... Had to scoop out everything we could reach.. Can't induce vomiting in reindeer..
Had we removed enough from her tongue, would I loose her?.. Did we remove too much if so will have caused immunity to another drug??
Today's update... At least it didn't kill her (I was dreading waking up for morning checks) and I am thinking maybe all is well... Not always easy here.. :(

Hi Sand. He's not quite looking like a butter ball yet as some other reindeer owner remarked on my herds' condition - a way to go yet! :)

That bottom in the background is a female 12 months younger than him and girls are smaller! ;)

So glad Tigga appears to be okay. I love the condition of your pasture. You must work hard to keep in such good shape!

OMG! I can't believe it. Talk about how scared you must have been after the way your luck has been going. WoW! I'm so glad everything seems to be ok. Was Fredo happy to get in the new pasture?

I hope that all is well with Tigga, I bet you didn't get much sleep that night! Also hope that Frodo is soon accepted by Lotte and Lexi, us girls can be a little picky about boyfriends lol!

    Hopefully answer to all.
Tigga is fine... phew!!! and dissecting droppings I think there are signs of breakdown of tapeworm (or at least hoping) and you are right I hardly slept a wink but she's fine now so problem over.. :)
Noelle, my little tractor "Wilma", (Ford 3000) is a good girl and tops paddocks pretty well and I only need to take a hammer to her from time to time! :)
As to Frodo, the two young girls that I have put him with for company are not impressed (one girl a year younger, the other his age). They insist on eating first, chase him away from food but I am putting loads out so that he can eat after them. It's an antler size issue. Poor boy hasn't grown a big set, due to poor condition, so is not commanding respect. I think it is very unlikely that he will be a daddy this year but who knows, all I hope is that I can get him through Winter weight loss.. :(

Very glad Tigga is doing well! Phew! Poor Frodo he is sporting a very small set of antlers! By the way has he started stripping velvet? In the bottom picture it looks like it to me!:p All you can do is keep the food there for him and maybe nature will be kind to him and get him through the winter!

Oh my!o_O Sorry about the scare with Tigga and so glad she is ok. Frodo is looking better and I hope his spirits will get a boost from being with the girls, even if they aren't impressed right now.

I am glad Frodo is in a herd now, too bad Lotte and Lexi don't treat him so well. I hope they can get along soon:)

I am trying to understand what tapeworms. Why reindeers need them?
