What are the Candy Points for in the Carnival Queen Event?

    I'm sure I've missed something, but after reading the event FAQ multiple times I still cannot find the purpose of the candy points, and correspondingly, the purpose of the candies thrown by the queen.

    The FAQ shows that the event has two goals: (1) buy goods from the event shop; and (2) earn the givers and the cloud row from the main progress bar.

    The event shop requires star coins that are thrown by the queen:
    The advancement on the main progress bar is based on the number of played mini games:
    Neither of the above goals require candy points.

    The FAQ further states:
    So my question is: Why do we need to collect candies during the first 36 mini games?

    This version of the Carnival Queen, the candy points do not serve a purpose other than they will be exchanged into EP & CC after the event.
