He will be shortly (just the two I think as I haven't seen movements in other girls tummies yet).
Dafodily, (Sandollar) yes that's Storm - such a little angel.

My news today... I have kept the skinny bull I purchased (Frodo) just with one girl over Winter so that nobody challenged him for food but as soon as Spring grass and leaves on trees started to grow, my plan was to unite herd (distractions and feed source elsewhere).
    THAT DAY WAS TODAY... :(
Well Frodo MUST be feeling better now. I was expecting fights, to work out herd order, BUT what I wasn't expecting was the outcome. Ignoring Elsa taking on the other girls (expected), Boris rolled his sleeves up on 3 occasions with Frodo, stood on his hind legs and had a pummelling fight... every time Boris ran off with his tail between his legs.
And my skinny boy was first in for afternoon pellets... :)
That's Frodo in foreground, he's leggy still but now carrying more weight on back and for the first time I have hosted his picture on their FB page rather than a Lilac message. No longer embarrassed. :)

Amazing! Way to go Frodo...not that I don't just love Boris but he is a castrate after all and Frodo needs to get a pecking order going as he will have Gandalf to contend with too!;) Job well done and this is a happy day for you and your herd!

Hi Karen, I was wondering, and you may have posted this on your Facebook page, how is baby Ria doing and are Twiglet and Katya the
only 2 that will give birth? That will be so exciting and can't wait! :):inlove:

Ria was doing really well and in fact incorporating whole herd worked well for her as pressure was off for her fitting in in lower pecking order... The herd leaders from both paddocks were squabbling for positions at the top and not worrying about the minor players. But to incorporate both herds I moved them on to wonderful Spring grass which she wasn't used to and her tummy became squitty But don't worry I penned her up on basic rations and straw and her "output" is back to pellets this evening but will keep her on basic rations for another 24 hours...
Our season is very odd this year as it was very cold and then very wet for weeks... Has just become very warm and grass has gone from very poor to luscious - reindeer tummies are sensitive so in order to keep them healthy a close eye needs to be kept on individuals, to pen them up on basic rations or let them indulge for weight gain... Always fun!
As to calves... Katya is very close it seems to me BUT she shouldn't be due until the very, very earliest 21st May (but have my own theory as to gestation in reindeer- I'll bore you with that if Katya calves before that date!) Twiglet also in calf but longer to go. Mischa and Lotte I think definitely no as Boris (castrate was playing "piggy back" with them throughout January). Lexi and Elsa he wasn't. but a really odd year for me as Frodo was in quarantine throughout the first few weeks of rut, so he may have covered them really late, who knows??? I may have very late surprises but they will be worries if they are born as to whether they can gain enough weight before Winter... for now... I think 2 calves at normal calving season!

Yummy Mummy Club (to be) has a new member. :)
I have seen a baby kicking in Elsa's tummy too. So happy for her as she is a born mother and only seems truly content when she has a calf at foot.

He's still a worry even though he still gains weight, thankfully.
But it seems his stomach can't cope with Spring grass. I have to pen him up for 12 hours a day on just straw rations to stop him squitting through the eye of a needle..
Main herd are thriving on Spring grass. I must do some research... all I can think of is that maybe previous worm burden may have damaged his gut lining. I always need to keep an eye on Spring grass but he has been penned on straw and pellets for 48 hours... 4 hours on grass and squitting again:(

Brooke is right Karen, Frodo is very lucky it was you who rescued him. :)
If anyone can sort his gut, it will be you. You always pitch right into the research and find the best solution.

Not mine unfortunately but the friend I purchased Ria from is away for the weekend and her sitter was panicking when this little girl appeared this morning. So I was called in to treat umbilical, weigh and check out mother and daughter to put everyone's minds at ease. :) Previously the first ever born to Angie were 29th April.
I'm grinning from ear to ear but tomorrow it will make me even more broody for mine to start appearing...

Wow, absolute opposite of Storm, do you know if the daddy is the same color? 8):inlove: Your patience will be rewarded! 6 months ago you were sure you'd not have any babies this year & now you know you'll have at least 3 :D Super glad the "sitter" had you to call upon with the morning's surprise arrival! ;)
