Fergie is getting stronger by the hour. I'm no longer on panic alert.. Just sharing an arty photo I quite like..

and not a great picture but an animal behaviour one. Twiglet will chase any of the boys away with gusto but she allows the adult girls very close (particularly her past 3 babies) and last years calves are hardly worried about at all (her calf Tigga and Katya's calf Belle - picture 2) :)

Oh so cute! I'm so happy she is a girl so I hope you can keep her. I've going crazy cause I've been away and for some reason my I pad won' t let me type anything on the game. No wi fi. New baby is beautiful.

Lottidah, I am not sure if she can be kept as a friend wants to do a female calf swap to improve his genetics, to me it would make more sense to swap a bull calf but he runs 4 bulls already - more fool him as he was attacked last year just because he was in the "safe space" between two bulls. :(. Twiglet has already produced 5 female calves, four of which I have, so for my genetics it would make sense that a Twiglet girl goes elsewhere. :(

Now to today's story. It is very difficult to express in words, and the odd photo, what silly characters reindeer are and all different. Today I had a serious grooming of Boris - he hated every second as their coat is so dense grooming isn't fun for them. When I felt today's session was enough, I released him from lead rope he did a lap and came back to the area he was groomed and started leaping in the air in the exact spot, long enough for me to take my camera out of it's case, switch it on and get this snap... they really are characters!

Frodo... (father to the unexpected calves)
I'm feeling very happy. He gained weight in the first few weeks I purchased him (September) but he lost weight during rut and Winter (weight loss expected from bulls September through Winter but they should be in best condition at the time I purchased him, he was NOT).
I could see in March, through his Winter coat that he was carrying more weight over spine (it no longer stuck up 3 inches) and could weigh him from time to time BUT I was dreading him shedding Winter coat as I thought I could be able to see every rib. His Winter coat was very poor and he has shed most before my reindeer have AND I can't see a single rib... :) He still needs loads more weight to get him through next rut and Winter... but he has he whole Summer ahead and already in better condition than he was in Sept 2017!

The love and care you give to Frodo (and all your reindeer) is shown in how much better he looks even though he is moulting!

Not a great photo but one of Twiglet with all her 4 daughters... Lotte, Lexi, Tigga & Fergie. Goodness what a family snap when they all have their own offspring. Eeek - Twiglet's very first calf was also a daughter (Nadya, which we lost). Twiglet only does girls!

Calving season so scary... Gandalf's previous owner has just lost a 2 day old baby and Ria's owner has had the worst experience ever, a difficult presentation which forceps dismembered calf but mother survived... :(
I am freaking about Katya as she is a little larger than I would like and still not showing signs of delivery. Keep us in your thoughts. x
