Here in the US we are OK.... Unless a certain bald headed weatherman from a national weather network jumps out of a van with a camera crew in your neighborhood.... Then, You know you are in deep doo-doo

North and South Carolina coasts are suffering pretty badly. Inland NC is looking at lots and lots of rain. Right now all is peaceful, last night the winds were whipping around a bit. Later today it starts to get a little dicey. People in low lying areas will have some flooding. But the poor coast... it will have a lot of damage. Already lots of homes destroyed.

I wanted to say Thank you to all my fellow farmers for your prayers for South and North Carolina. By the grace of God our small Coastal town was spared from Hurricane Florence In the North Myrtle beach area in SC. Many others no more than 10 mins from me have suffered greatly, their homes are gone or under water, properties damaged and loves ones that have died. We just returned to our home last night all 3 generations that evacuated together. It took us 2 days to return home going around flooded roadways and cities. No damaged to our place but broken tree limbs. Please continue to Pray for everyone that has been effected. As flood waters continue to rise in the coming days.

My thoughts and prayers go out to ALL those in North and South Carolina! The flooding in NC is horrifying and still rising in some areas!
My daughter moved from Maine to just north west of the Raleigh/Durham area last December, thank God they have seemed to have been spared! tlcmom, I am glad you and your family are ok and have made it back home! Good luck, take care and stay safe!

Thanks matselleste. Sorry couldn't reply to you earlier. Hope the situation in Carolina improves. They say in the news that since the storm moves slowly, it take water from the sea and empties it into the land and it will continue for some days. That's worrisome.

That's sad tlcmom. But its good that you evacuvated. Is it still raining ? Be safe. Have you access to the amenities ?

The rain has stop. We had another thunderstorm last night but did not last long. Yes we have access to amenities right now. Rivers are expected to crest by this weekend and possible cut access to our area. We were stocked up before hurricane but will get other items if we can, things like bread and fresh veggies are non exist in stores. Some trucks coming in today while they can.

not sure if this thread is still going on or not, if so sorry, anyway, there's still some damage on my end, mostly trees are down, building are shut down and some young kids are showing signs of stress, which doesn't surprise me. My 83-84 year old grandmother, who is used to hurricanes admitted she wasn't all that brave and even I was uneasy so for very young children it had to be traumatic! my end was out of power for about a week and we have power now. a friends church is having a drive for those affected and I made little decorations for them. stay safe everyone!

liz4t, I can understand exactly what you feel. We have been through those things very often. During the tsunami, our children too, underwent the trauma.

Yesterday 400 people died from the tsunami that struck Indonesia. very sad.

    Hi hopy !
Happy to see you back. How goes your studies ? Our rainy season may start in one month, then it will be our turn to complain. We have destroyed all the water bodies, water ways. Converted soils into roads & cements. Destroyed mountains & rivers. Now we are feeling the aftermaths.

    12ss12 !!
As its my last year in high school and our principal wants to put some burden on us as we've to pass a test(a test different from all the test we've ever been through and which decides our future) along with our regular final exam to get into a university,he decided to take a test named as "grand test" every month which includes everything studied in the previous month. So I've to give a mini exam every month now.......which is so tiring.

I've never expirenced any try of disaster in my life butjust thinking about it makes me feel that how brave the people are who make through it.Are you talking about winter monsoon?

I am from Chennai, Tamilnadu, South India. We get rains only during North East Monsoon - that is from mid of October to first part of December. If we have plentiful rains it will be enough to tide over for a year till next October. From December winter sets in. We get some light spells in other months. But that is not reliable. Many a time it is due to extreme heat - heat convention rainfalls or sometimes a stray rainfall.

So usually we have cyclones, low depressions in sea which give us rain. A good rainy season means we should have atleast 3 or 4 cyclones or low depression in sea which will bring us rains.

Your monthly test brought back some of my memories

During my school days we had Cycle Test - which means every day for 30 minutes before the school starts we took test for lessons which were taught previous week. This was for the last 4 years of my school days - 9th to 12th standard. Monthly tests were usual for all standards except KG classes. While I was in 7th standard or 8th, I forgot which, I was very much worried about the cycle test. I am not good at doing a narrow U turns in bicycle. I took that cycle test had something to do with bi-cycles. What a relief was when I learnt that it meant taking tests everyday of the week. When I think about that even now, it brings smile to my face. Every week we had to get signature of our parents in the cycle test progress report containing our marks scored. For 4 years we had to at our school around 7.55 a.m atleast as the cycle tests start at 8.00 a.m. and end at 8.30 a.m. Our school was a very big school. So from 8.30 to 8.40 we were given time to assemble for Assembly in the ground. We had assembly from 8.40 to 9.00 a.m and at 9 a.m our classes started. Since our school was a big one there was atleast 3 or 4 assemblies being conducted at the same time - for Kindergarden, lower classes etc.

You brought back my school memories. Hope I don't bore you. There will be a time when you will look back at your school days with nostalgia. Your only responsibility now is to score good marks. As you go on in life, there will be many more responsibilities that will tire you. Even though such tests are boring and tiresome enjoy them because you won't have them afterwards. Enjoy your time with friends too. Now don't think this as a advice. I am just sharing my feelings. Venting out, you can say. I was very happy on the last day of my school -that is the last day public exams was over. No more bondage. Free. Happy. I think that's how you will be feeling too at the end day of school.

liz4t I am sorry to hear your region experience many problems too and especially these young kids.
It was very nice of you to made these little gifts:inlove:

hopy it is so good to see you! I think I have nothing to add 12ss12 has given you good thoughts to keep in mind while in your last year of high school. Enjoy it! Even the tests, it sounds weird but try to like those also, you will gain so much knowledge for practicing in tests what you have learned each month.:) But I now it is difficult and tiring but you can do it:)

12ss12 I really liked your post describing this part of your school years:)
May I ask what KG classes are and also what time did you finish school every day?
Unfortunately this has happened in many regions in Greece also and we are facing the problems...

I heard about Indonesia, the latest news say that the number of victims has doubled:(

Currently there is a cyclone in Greece too. One day it is in one region the next in another, there are many floods and people missing:sleepy: Moreover ferries have stopped coming to the islands that there is this bad weather, guess who is not travelling to Athens today... haha yes that's me, today I was supposed to be travelling so tomorrow I could attend the first day of University lessons but I won't be able to. I don't know when I will be able but that's okay, what matters is to stay safe these days. In the island some places have flooded and also many roads..

Thanks 12ss12 for explaining the pattern of rains in your area.

If I were you I would have thought the same.....xDxDIt was fun reading your post. You didn't bore me at all.I'm not sure whether I would miss all those things but I'm missing my childhood in these days.I don't want to grow up.I want the time to be stopped here forever or to rewind once again form my childhood.:cry:

Arielh, its nice to see you too.......I hope you reach there safely.
