She will be worth the work; such a beauty! :inlove: I'm sure you will win her over after a bit. You can always enlist Pookie for support!

Nothing really interesting to report at this time of year.

The ex rutting boys (Frodo and Gandalf), I have to wait until March for them to start to pile on the weight they have lost. Belle is holding her weight and again waiting for the Spring to kick in BUT she loves her rug and she is not overheating. :)

I did invite students who were interested from a Vet Uni to visit reindeer at home. I immediately got a group of 5 who booked a day - which we did last week and their recommendations for my herd have been heart warming... This is just one.

"Tate.. Me and 4 other veterinary students had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Luxlyk farm and it was a great experience. Karen clearly is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the health and welfare of her herd. I was so impressed with her system of care and it was amazing to get to know some of the members of the herd 1 on 1! If you ever want to hire reindeer and be guaranteed they're happy and properly looked after I would definitely recommend."

BUT what I hadn't betted on, a group of 25+ have also booked for the 12th Feb! Oh boy the reindeer will know something is going on!

Karen that is wonderful news! Maybe tomorrows Vets for reindeer will come from that group of lovely, bright, young people!
They all looked like they were having a good time and learning something new!;)

You are definitely making an impression on the young vets! They may be the ones to advance understanding and treatment for reindeer after meeting your herd. Congrats on the fine showing!

Great pictures of the Vet students and it is nice to know that they were so interested in the care of reindeer. I am also pleased to hear that Belle continues her fight and is not losing any more weight:inlove:

    Nothing exciting, I am afraid..
    Antler update.
The only two reindeer, so far, to have shed their antlers are Gandalf and Frodo (the entire boys who shed at the end of December).
No sign of new growth yet from Frodo but Gandalf's have started to "sprout" in the last couple of days.
The girls won't shed until April/May but hopefully Boris will in the next couple of weeks.

It is amazing that such big antlers can grow from those bumps:)

BORIS "the Reindeer" finally found a path out of the EU BUT he wonders if that is really right for the UK, only time will tell. [IMG]:(

Thanks Karen for allowing the lovely Vet Students to see what you have done. I am sure they will remember this experience
for a long time to come. I am a Retired Peds RN. To this day I still remember the people that inspired me to move on.

A lovely photo from vet Students shared...
It's Katya, she was one of the ones used as a "guinea pig" for hoof trims, heart checks etc etc but she was still happy to interact and say goodbye in an open paddock before they left & that grin on future vets face means the world to me! :).

Sorry, so few updates recently as the weather has been atrocious and apart from tending the beasties and fighting the weather I have not been hanging around for long to take photos.
White babies Lily and Luna have shed antlers. Lily her second and Luna her first.
Boris as ever, is being Boris - he either sheds before Christmas or, as this year is still hanging onto his antlers!
    Gandalf's weekly antler growth update.
AND the most exciting for me, is I have one hawthorn bursting her buds, early for me...
Spring IS just around the corner

Love the pictures. Gandalf looks as though his "buds" are growing quickly as well. I hope all are OK in this horrible weather and of course Pookie:inlove:
