Wow, that was a scary finish! With two hours to go, I was at about place 2200 and well set up for my target of top 3000. Ten minutes later I dropped about 80 places without donating, then another 60 and I got nervous and saw with another 1million donated, I could go up 34 places so I did that.

Into the last hour (5 am NZT) I was feeling comfy at place 2400 or so, then lost about 70 places after the next ten minutes. At 40 mins to go I was at 2600 and donated another 3m and at 30 mins I climbed to 2480. 20 mins to go and I was more nervous at place 2720 so I put in 3 million more.
Ten minutes left I was at 3015! Oh Manure! Frantically I bunged in 30million in the last nine minutes (I needed 11m) and shot up to finish at 2286!

 

The freaky thing is davidb1yth007, that I donated about the same as you... Last Year and I came in 1425th

Last year I tried but failed miserably, this year I didn't even qualify as I wasn't able to finish the main event

Time to plan for next year...

 

I know I made some calculations during the event and I could have made in top 5000 without burning the barn, but I decided not to try, because I did not find it worth it. And donation window worked so slow, just to give all those 5 of event plants I got over and over again It would have taken ages to donate many different items.

Can't forget joanc123 and her other farm, AmySue52! Not quite the Top 1000 finish she was hoping for but Top 3000 on her first attempt is a major accomplishment anyone can be proud of. Congrats!

Donation window was very slow in previous days but yesterday it was quite fast till the end of the game

I have spent 1.8 billion CC in total. In this race, I learned: Buy and store some tree fruits all year round when they're cheap

Congratulations to my neighbors Imalattanhalka and Frycio71! And to all who finished in the top 5000. I was just happy to get all the goodies my farms managed to garner and watch the melee after that.

Sometimes we have to know our limitations. I was sorely tempted to try to break the 5000 with sewinglady's farm, but as the end approached, I knew it would empty that farm's barns completely, and so the decision was made to just sell a few things and reap the CCs and be done with the event.

I was shocked to see the rewards posted as well and my first thought agreed with yusufca... Bots are everywhere

Yes they are, and it's easier than ever before to get around BP's bot checks so I wouldn't be surprised if some of them made it onto the list. But there are also plenty of legitimate methods players like Rékuci1111 can use to rack up ungodly amounts of EV over the course of a year without cheating. Think this year was bad? Just wait until next year - the tactics used by the top 5-10 players have already started making their way across various forums and will soon become common knowledge.

You and yusufça can sit here and debate all you want about who is or isn't cheating without any specific evidence of suspicious activity, but just know that there are skilled players like Rékuci1111 out there who will continue to explore what's possible in this game and how to make the most of it, blowing away everyone's expectations in the TOP event year after year.

 

I would be interested in seeing what strategies those top players used in order to have that much available to donate. I am familiar with several approaches for the Top Events, but new info is always welcome
