You and your mother are in my thoughts, PnP, and I wish you both all the best. It must be such a great comfort to all your family to have your mum at home, and comfortable.
I know you will take the best care of your mum, but please don't forget to take care of yourself too.

Just a quick update about Mom...

She has rallied and done better than expected these last few weeks. We are all so grateful to have this time with her. Family and friends have visited and the experience was positive for all. It does leave her tired, so we have had to limit how many can come and they must schedule it in order to ensure she gets enough rest. Fortunately, most have been understanding.

She continues to have symptoms that must be monitored closely but she has not gone into the sharp decline we anticipated. Yesterday, she turned 80 years old :) Family wanted to see her but yesterday was a tough day for her. She continues to have escalating pain, fever that is not responding well to OTC medication, a bit dehydrated even though she is drinking well, drowsy and prefers to just be quiet. Last Friday, she did not recognize me for a few minutes :( She continues to have hallucinations but they are mostly delightful. Today, there are kittens on the bookshelf that keep her company and entertained as only kittens can:inlove:

My friends, neighbors and farm hubby Banjoman, I'm sorry to report that my 2nd farm BillyWhiskers has slid into a blinking red thermometer as I just don't have time or energy to farm beyond my main one (pnp). I appreciate each one of you and wish you all the best as you find a replacement neighbor. BW will come out of retirement when I need to fill my time again. I don't know how long that will be, but I'm trying to take it one day at a time and enjoy each moment together with Mom.

I never know how to end these types of posts so will just wish you each a good day and Happy Farming :)

Relieved to hear your mom is doing better than expected, though it's a shame she couldn't celebrate her 80th birthday with family and friends. :( I hope she continues to surpass all expectations. :)

Also, kittens on the bookshelf? Cutest hallucinations ever! :inlove:

It has been a while since I updated here about Mom....

We have been blessed to have this time with her since her 2nd stroke in December 2019. Though she has both silly and frightening hallucination, she still knows us and her love and humor shine through, as well as her deep abiding love of God. Her faith is strong and she continues to inspire all who visit.

Two weeks ago, Hospice gave us approximately 3 months. This week, best guess is 2 weeks. Her sharp decline has been hard to accept. Our goal is to keep her comfortable, physically, mentally and emotionally. The best parts of the day are looking into her blue eyes, holding her hand and remembering good times, singing songs, talking about God and reading scripture. Her prayers are beautiful and always bring a tear to my eyes.

Family has been here all week but are planning on going home until closer to the end.

I am blessed beyond measure to have been able to care for her here at home. Thank you to those who remember her and have asked about her. She loved farming with us so much and asked me to load her farm the other day. She is no longer able to farm but I was glad it was a sweet memory for her.

My prayers are with you, dear friend. Your mom was a joy to farm with, and always so happy when someone sent her a gift. I will always have a special place in my heart for her.

What a treasure to have had her with you at home, sharing memories and love. Blessings to you all as you walk this last mile together.

I never got the chance to farm with your mom but from the way you describe her, she sounds like a very special lady. And I'm sure she knows how blessed she is to have a daughter like you who was able and willing to give her the kind of end-of-life care most parents can only dream of. :inlove:

Sending you and your mom lots of love and hugs during this difficult time. May her last 2 weeks be painless and merciful.

Sending you and your mother lots of love and care. Hope her last weeks will be comfortable and painless. A mother is a mother whatever age we be. We will feel as if a part of us is misssing, if she is not with us. But the 'necessary' has to come and we have to learn and adjust without her physical presence. Stay strong and courageous through all the ordeal. We are with you.

I have some fond memories of farming with your Mom. I find it so sweet that she asked you to load her farm. All my sincerest thoughts are with you and your whole family at this difficult time. You can never prepare for the final farewell but you have had the opportunity to share some special moments along the way.

    *Hugs*

Thank you all for your support, encouragement, hugs, prayers and kind words. I am so blessed to have farming friends :inlove:

Mom is still hanging on. Nurse has revised the 'timeline' and we are just taking it one day at a time. She now has a raging infection :( Labs came back with white blood cell count as "TNTC" which means 'too numerous to count' :( I don't know if the antibiotic will be enough. A lot of little changes have happened that add up to a big decline :( We can only make her comfortable, hold her hand and tell her she is loved and looked after. It doesn't feel like enough:cry::cry::cry::cry:but it is all I have left to offer. The transition has begun....:cry::cry::cry:

It is hard to watch a loved one fade away right in front of you and you feel helpless! But you are helping your mom, with all the love
and caring you all have given her! Hugs, love, thoughts and prayers for you and your family!:inlove:
