In the old forum we had a weather related thread.

Good weather, bad weather. Let's hear it.

    Prelude:
Drought conditions for three years. I haven't done any rain dances for fear we would get too much at once. We don't get a lot of big storms here. Tornadoes are rare and EF0. Hurricanes, that's for other people. Snow, I saw a trace ONE morning in almost 20y of living here.

    I'll start with yesterday...
Nearby San Francisco International Airport (SFO) had more rain yesterday than for ALL of 2013! Yep some flooding.

    Closer to home...
I had an appt (in retrospect maybe I could have rescheduled, lol) so I had to leave the house. Plus the cupboard was bare and rain almost every day for next 10. While waiting for paratransit, barely a sprinkle. This might not be as bad as predicted. While waiting to leave the hospital... could tell it had been raining but was dry until my ride showed up. Light rain. Finished my grocery shopping early, walked over to McD's to sit and wait for ride. Pretty serious rainfall. Got pretty wet. While I was sitting in McD's It started coming down really hard, I've seen much worse in the Midwest. During the next hour it continued to pour down, the power went out, blinked on, went out again. Power was out for about half hour total. AFTER it came back on they came over and told me they were closing the restaurant unless I was waiting for a ride. LOL Then a guy came in that looked like he owned the place and they unlocked the doors and started serving again. I tried calling paratransit to find out the status of my 20m late ride, lol. No answer. That's a first. Not even a prerecorded message. Their power must have been out too. Even tho I was north of river and they are south of river. A taxi finally arrived to take me home. Lots of ponding and localized flooding. Driver just plowed thru it even tho many of the "puddles" had to be way over his axles. He was in a hurry. Lots of traffic jams. Then a rainbow, a DOUBLE RAINBOW! Barely a sprinkle the rest of the time I was out. Traffic on I80 was NOT moving. Later found out one of their pumps wasn't working and the highway flooded. Cars stalled.

Got home. I had a power failure here too.

All in all lots of localized flooding in the region. A few houses damaged. Trees down, blocking roads. One tree ended up on someones dining room/kitchen, that had just prepared dinner and taken it in the bedroom to watch TV, so they were uninjured. Some feeder creeks are filling up fast because it was a warmish storm too and no snow in the foothills means possible flooding in the valley. Wait and see for that...

Meanwhile I'm home, high and dry. Thank doG!

Wow Suzee, and I was just mumbling that I froze my fingers trying to de-ice the car this morning! It's not raining for once in the UK and I'm pretty sure that statement will come back to bite me in the bum!

SuzeeRabbit I hope the weather conditions will be better in your town!

Now that it is December the weather is still like autumn-summer.
I live in an island in Greece and the temperature is about 15°C and some days is about 18°C. I still wear summer clothes but not all people do...
It rains very rarely and we have some problems about the water because it contains some dangerous elements(We can't drink it we only use it for other needs)

Forgot to mention I got thoroughly soaked taking the groceries out of my cart and putting them in the back of the taxi. In the 15-20m it took to get home the rain had stopped. For a while... Mostly sunny today. I was going to go do some shopping at Home Depot & Wally today. But since I'd already had trouble reaching paratransit earlier yesterday I didn't bother booking a ride for today. I figure they needed today to regroup. :( Maybe I'll go tomorrow.

I hate de-icing a car. I used to just turn the heater on high and hot and point the vents toward the window and sit and wait. lol

I used to know someone that vacationed in Greece at least once a year. Our weather is similar, sorta Mediterranean. I'm wearing shorts in the house. A bit too chilly outside except in the aften. I've seen some neighbor kids outside playing in shorts before the rain clouds moved in. The guys that drive the brown trucks, UPS, wear shorts most days still. Some postal carriers. We're still able to drink our water but are getting some dire predictions about global warming and our area. Where do you get drinking water?

I didn't know that we have similar weather because San Francisco is north, and I thought the weather would be cooler but of course there are also other factors affect the weather.

We buy drinking water from the market.

Almost 80 degree here today, but that is south Florida. There is a nice breeze so it does not feel hot.
Waiting for our next cool/cold front.

Do you grow mangoes in FL? Are they freeze tolerant.

ariel, does the bottled water come from the mainland?

Actually I do have a mango tree that I harvest in the summer time.
I do get off the Island to the mainland to get our water.
I have heard that California is catching terrible rain. Hope all is well

Still have garden tomatoes and even some more blossoms to create more but I'm sure they will not, as it could possibly get below 32 degrees soon! Yes us Californians are recieving some rain but still considered in a drought, we are expecting more rain before the weekend and more after the weekend...Woot woot! We need this rain for sure.

It has been nice here in Texas. Our temps are running in the 70's (today's high is suppose to be around 76) but rain has moved in so we will be dropping into the 60's. We need the rain but it sure does make it messy for running errands!

Yeah, I'm a bit wet but nothing a towel or change of clothes won't remedy. The leaves that hadn't fallen until this storm have been cleared from the drains. The electric is back on for everyone, I think. We should be ok as long as we don't get any BIG storms. Our next big storm is forecast for Thu. Hopefully not too big. I'm in Northern CA. Southern CA is having a lot of problems with mudslides. We have two "burn areas" from big wildfires that are unstable and could produce some mudslides. That could cause some bad problems for people near there. So far so good. We finally made it over 100% for our rain year. But that can/has changed quickly the past few years. It could stop raining for the rest of the season. Leaving us with a deficit again. What we probably need most is snow in the Sierras.

I remember that tornado in TX a couple of years ago with the containers flying thru the air! Scary stuff.

Yes it comes from there and mostly from high mountains.
I am sure you have heard of mountain Olympus(where the myth 12 gods lived), water comes from there also.

The lake effect snow machine is off for now but it is a dry cold around 32F (0C) in the Mitten State.
We get gales every few days.

Not trying to act cool or show off but I was outside in freezing weather for four days in a row.
But like 5 to 8 hours on average each day.. One time it even snowed but all melted the next day.

Each day it was around 32F to 36F.

Here's a picture of like two weeks ago when it snowed the first time.

Beautiful picture solo. I do believe I live in the same part of the state as you and it is so nice when it snows and then melts away. But we both know that won't be like that all winter. xD

Well it is raining here right now but around Thanksgiving they had a lot of snow in the north.

I think Buffalo actually called out a state of emergency. They were scared that some of the houses might even be collapsing because of the amount of snow on the roofs. Buffalo gets a lot of snow every year, they know how to deal with it and still they couldn't handle it all on their own.

Now it is better again. I just wondered how I would have felt inside a house buried under a ton of snow?

Love the pic Solotime. I picture deer and other such wonderful animals prancing about.
When I was a child in Ill. there were woods near by and oh what fun it was to play inside those woods and grab the icicles.
    Thanks for the memory:inlove:

    You're welcome!

I took the picture in USA, PA.
I live in a valley so all you see are mountains and farmlands.
    (Houses too of course)

And Teddy said small camera's can't take good pictures. xD

@solotime, I love and miss the snow so much as I grew up in Northern Washington state up by Canada and Idaho but now here in central Cali I never get to see any snow, but On Thanksgiving day we had 80 degrees...I know! Thanks for the picture and some of those trees look like they would make wonderful Christmas trees, LOL!

Update, We just had an Earthquake a 4.1 here in central California as it's raining too...normally earthquakes hit here when it's really hot and not raining. Yes. We all get scarred because the initial quake is usually hard and then we never know how long or hard it can get! That's Mother nature for you!

What a beautiful day today. Light cool breeze with puffy white clouds over head.
A cup of hot chocolate with whip on top. Who could ask for anything more.
    Wishing you all the same.

Solotime hope all is well in your part of Ca. The quake was not on the news. I do not think I could get used to that.
    My best to you!
