Ι don't have hibiscus but I have other plants with lower hours and more BEP and I think is better to grow your farm plants and not the event crop if you don't do the event.

The chart below contains the market data as of this date in time for Market 40. At this time I have no desire to participate in the TOP 1000 competition which has been held in November. It is approximately 10 months away. If I judge the need to display En Forum strength in the upper 500 then I will enter. Regardless I will sell to those buying to compete at the latest of moments. In order to do so I choose to be prepared in advance. The chart below will be used to develop a strategy for success in competition as well as the making of ccs.

Anyone choosing to use a similar strategy should prepare a chart which contains their own market data.

The next post will display the determination of price points to be used in acquisition.

The greatest concern of all is: Which five or so tree fruit have the lowest Market/Exchange value rates? A somewhat lesser concern is: Which tree fruit will provide the greatest availability?

Any other concern with tree fruit thus far?

    @Arielh
The less time one has to prepare for an event OR the more of an item that is needed, the more that availability (or supply or number of listings) becomes important. The last thing experience one cares for is the purchase of demanded items when time is of the essence.

The 12 tree fruit having the lowest price/exchange value on the Market 40 example above at 01/13/2015 are:

Number Tree Fruit ep MKT/EV Level Avail
    1 Olive 90 0.1733 61
    2 Papayas 75 0.1773 Island
    3 Almond 100 0.1844 70
    4 Yello Pear 60 0.1852 60
    5 Maple Sap 110 0.1999 77
    6 Pine Cone 85 0.2068 56
    7 Beechnut 105 0.2173 mystery seedling
    8 Chestnut 120 0.2148 3 with BB
    9 Ang trump 55 0.2188 55
    10 Kumquat 80 0.2202 Island
    11 Avocado 70 0.2227 Island
    12 Cocoa Bn 65 0.2247 Island
Eight are mainland tree fruit and four are island tree fruit. The ratio will fluctuate as the market changes. The only constant is the exchange rate used in determining the mkt/ev.

Maple Sap has the highest exchange value of the mainland common tree fruit and is commonly used for donation purposes. Maple Sap is also grown by higher level players who wish to earn high ep using a 1x1 plot. Maple Sap is also the most expensive common mainland tree at 3750ccs.

Note a column may be added to your original chart which may be labeled ep.

For ease in purchasing a maximum price point will be set next. Again, this price point will be set to acquire tree fruit for donation purposes. NOTHING but market price will prevent the sale of it.

GENERALLY, the lower the price point set, the less the availability. Keep in mind that events will cause fluctuations in market price as well as speculation.

SPREADSHEET PACKAGE USE IS VALUABLE as time will be saved in the long run. There will be an ease in making computations.

EP provided is for information purposes only and is not discussed in relation to exchange value.

    More to come!

    ---edit---

Might want to gather a few rare animals. See post #56 in grapevine for the list. Long overdue!

You have no idea as to if they will even keep the same format!
Does anyone really give a monkey's as to what the price of fruit is in your market or what the EV of the animals is?>:(

We do not know it will keep the same format or not. But we always prepare for whatever happens.
To go to Harvest Hoedown, how many EV do you already have? How much money are you prepared for it?
Yes, good planning is the key to the answer for your question. But how?

Check -here- for the winners of that last time event.
As you can see, the #1000th place have donated for 144 million EV. Can you deal with it?
I mean can you collect that so much?

RL took me away from the game for a few days.

Post #364 above contains the lowest 12 rates for Market 40 on 1/13/2015. Markets vary. Assume I am trying to establish a price to buy tree fruit for donation purposes. I must decide on a rate that will allow purchase of sufficient quantity. For nonspecific event type donation purpose only I do not need massive quantities and may establish a low rate. For events such as a Harvest Hoedown type event I will need a decent quantity to be competitive.

I chose the highest rate of the 12 listed which was .2247 . Again this will vary by individual and market but the procedure used will work for any market. The table below contains 22 farm tree fruit and 11 Baha tree fruit. At this time I seriously doubt others will become eligible. If quantity is no longer available then the rate must be raised for acquisition and the price recomputed for all. (With a spreadsheet package all may be included in the analysis.) I have quantities of several tree fruit that is not good for donation purposes. For example: apple, walnut, plum, orange, and date to name a few.

I took the exchange rate and multiplied all times .2247 and then rounded up to get my buy price for this year. Anything above that PRICE will sit on the market ..... for now.

Although olive was #1 at the time rates were computed, I will not buy olives now because the price does not meet my price.

The reason I included more tree fruit was because there are market changes which make others desirable for donation with no change in consequences.

The max price I will by is determined. I will write the tree fruit and that price on a paper a keep next to the computer. Each time I scan the market I will buy. After a while these will be remembered. No more computations and no more effort. BUT ... and I cannot emphasize this enough: THIS CONTINUOUS BUYING MUST BE FUNDED.

No need to even think about acquiring the other tree fruit not listed for donation purposes. Some of the above are included only to show the slim likelihood of acquiring for donation purposes. (Trend analysis for investment purposes becomes simple with a spreadsheet package and a basic understanding of the above. Hopefully this method will be presented shortly.)

A year ago, some tree fruit was eligible and now has turned out to be a source of profit due to game and resultant market changes: orange and date are good examples. (edit- and elderberry) Some are very very close to profit items now: peach and lychee for example.

And if one desires profit with no intent of competing in a Hoedown type event then one may simply set their acquisition rate low, leisurely acquire, hold, and then sell to those who have not prepared.

Tree fruit is only one area of several. Donation of sufficient quantity has been the deciding factor is years past. The rate of .2247 is judged by me as being aggressive and this high a rate can lead to high holdings of tree fruit. As long as I can continue to fund this escapade: There is no doubt as to the minimum price of tree fruit on market 40. There are other things I want and I will pay no more than the price I determined .... Exceed it ... no sale ... the lower the better for me!

Again, this type of analysis is primarily for tree fruit donation yet one always has an investment.

Next I will illustrate an area that is perfectly clear where to invest but a game change can turn this into profit and lack of preparedness.

    ---edit---

While rereading previous posts I saw that Mooboy would like a chart for a 20% rate. I cannot dispute one using a rate of 20% or 10% or any other. One simply must prepare a chart for that rate. Markets and personal preferences will vary.

    Generally:
    • The less aggressive one wishes to be in acquisition then the lower the rate which can be set and objectives met.
    • Buying needed quantities of any item at the last minute, in RL or in this game, will generally result in overpaying for the item.
Available funds will periodically reduce buying. Having been faced with this several times, I simply maintain my buy rate maximum an either do not purchase or do not purchase up to the maximum.

I was seeking a balance I could maintain purchasing and funding. I know full well the maximum I will buy at and certainly will purchase below that rate. Over time, one begins to get a feel as to the price one actually has in each tree fruit for profit determination purposes. As time passes and purchasing continues, one begins to see the specific tree fruit where there is greatest availability.

THIS METHOD DOES NOT SUGGEST: DO NOT INVEST IN OTHER TREE FRUIT!

    --- edit 2 ---

At this moment there is no tree fruit to acquire on Market 40 which will meet my price limitation. I will hold and take profits in dates.

    @SillyGuy

I know you see what is happening and I know someone oversees my step. I'll put it out there and hopefully entertain you. Enjoy!

The broke farm needs much higher standards now to even consider bothering with the Hoedown competition if it indeed materializes. Even so there will be no hopscotch with the lower class of the bunch. At the moment, the most I am considering sending is a baby farm that will not even have access to Maple Sap.

Yes, the competition can indeed change and hopefully I'll stay awake to watch the returns. Tree fruit is only a single area and I still regard it as the final determining item. Efficient tree fruit acquisition is a single method which, when understood, aids one easily in preparing in other areas such as .... and I wish I could see your smile:
    • crops -- grains
    • crops -- vegetables
    • Baha crops
    • animals -- general farm (there is a single solid best and a competitive second)
    • animals -- Baha
    • breeding animals (and there is only a single to buy and prepare efficiently now. No need to breed a single thing. Rest assured I see it and have enough to meet a chance requirement and then sell to competitors.)
    • feed -- oh no, can't rule it out
    • tree fruit
    • products -- (parrot feathers clear choice followed by eggs. So far pheromones have been excluded ... If need be I'll open with 1 million ... not exchange value but 500 million exchange value for starts.)
    • tools -- a little caution needed in regards to the tools to hold
    • craft goods -- only nonsalable ones have an exchange value, they would have to use what is specifically defined as market value. There surely is a way to prepare.
    • the random requirement can be implemented -- only to receive complaints of favoritism. In that case I will certainly send a couple of randomly chosen baby farms.
    • CCs -- contribute ccs just to play around ... a bit far fetched as the next
    • BBs -- so Hoedown turns into a competition for those who invest RL funds or is the requirement enough to be satisfied by starting a few movies and going to the shower?
    • Contribute whatever one can grow during a specified time period ... not much different than any other event

Silly Guy, I know you can see it. It's a whole different approach which may easily be put into place. And this event is not for farmers with limited barns as it has traditionally been a barn burner. There is no hansy pansy if one seriously wishes to play on that playground.

Don't even think the demand for tree fruit lately in various aspects of the game stops the acquisition method above from working beautifully. Simply requires one not to panic and remain committed.

I think I'll present the breeding animal aspect next.

Quite simply and for your amusement: Those who can prepare, will and efficiently do so. Those who can't, dream and will overspend.

Hello Banjoman. Good to hear you are doing well in the market.

Ostrich eggs should be all gone now and so will koi. I was not really prepared in those areas. Did the best I could with what I had.

Playing fish and ostrich feed as they should do much better after the event ends. Doing well with beaver feed. Takes a long time to mill it and not parting with it cheap.

Well stocked with beavers, timber, and peacock but not really trying to do anything. I'm just making enough to buy the desperation offers.

Selling a few crops here and there but not trying; just letting the barns empty.

Working Dogs though. It is the best animal to give for the animal trophy and Reindeer are no longer competitive. Second to that I'm working Eagles for the same reason.

Picking up Anaconda feed and stashing Anaconda. Ever a decent call for Anaconda and the mills cannot keep up. And breeding them would turn breeding wilder than it already is.

Selling in lots of 2 - 4 is just too much work. Rare animal feed is still selling well and profit is good so just liquidating it. Still holding over 40,000 bat feed, profit is good, but lot size is small so no hurry hurry.

Wish I had the motivation to bother selling seriously during this event but just don't. Happy to hear you are doing well.
