8)Desi & oldmcdonald - There is another kind of horse besides gentle or mean....and that is spirited, which is what mine was. I found out - after the fact - that he had been sold to me because he had thrown the former owner. He did have a 'reputation', but that was because he had been used as a stud and....well, that makes them a little wild and firey....but he didn't have a mean bone in his body! The former owner just never took the time to know the horse, and was one of those old-time TV types who thought he had to 'force' a horse to do what he wanted.
After we went through a 'getting-to-know-you phase', he still remained a spirited ride (the best kind, imho), and we bonded so closely with trust and love that he became my protector (from Brahma bulls in a field we had to walk through). He trusted me in return. One day when we were riding through deep Fall leaves, he got badly tangled in barbed wire that had been hidden in the leaves. After dismounting and checking all four of his legs, I must have turned pure white to realize how badly tangled he was - all four legs in that awful wire! But he allowed me to back him into barbed wire so that I could untangle him, one hoof at a time. (Most horses would have panicked, and most likely both of us would have been badly injured.) I was soooo moved by this amount of trust!! Here was this free spirited wild creature letting me back him into barbed wire, completely believing in me to fix the problem!!
It really took my breath away!!:inlove::inlove:

@Desi, So sad to hear about the broken ribs!! (I'd have quit that job, too!!)
What a scary experience you had with the sled!:wuerg: I'm glad you weren't badly injured!:inlove:

I just wanted to say that I am sorry that I have not been replying as often as I have been, just RL is making it hard to find the time to come on here!

I think lillies and roses are the most beautiful flowers :)

Thank you for your lovely words, I like how something as small and seemingly "meaningless" as a username can actually have a much greater and deeper meaning :) Your story is very interesting, loved reading it :)

I agree with you, which is why I wanted to start this thread !

It is a shame that you can no longer participate - I hope it is nothing serious :)
Camping sounds wonderful; it is something I have not yet done but would love to do, along with a road trip! Just getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city would be so peaceful and such an enjoyable experience. I've always wanted to go on a 'vision quest' and I think a road trip or camping would be the way forward !

    @Tinni That is lovely :)

@desi20 Wow, how scary that must have been, my heart was pounding just reading that! I'm glad you are okay now :)

That is a truly beautiful story @farmlily3 , I find it mesmerizing how animals have the ability to trust us in the way you mentioned, really amazing :)

Oh now don't go makin' me tell about my past. I lived in Conway/Myrtle Beach, SC for a couple years just after high school. Went to the College of Charleston. Don't want to date myself too much, but friends who have been through there recently tell me I wouldn't recognize Myrtle Beach. A trip back to SC is on my bucket list. Someday...

As for my Forum ID and Farmerama name...I've used some version of "sewinglady" on the internet and in various games over the years, so just thought I'd try it and since it was available...

    8)Oh farmerlily22 - what a wonderful idea....a fish fry - with cornbread! Yum!:inlove: I know!...We'll borrow my dog 'Killer's dump truck and then there'll be enough room for everybody! I'm sure he won't mind........(if...I can.....just ...get that....front tire...out of his...mouth!!)
(For an introduction to "Killer" - my (Farmerama) 200 pound Rottweiler - see conversation with farmer_broke and others in the thread ..."just made my 1st million' on '...chit chat', starting on page 10 thru 15+). (Includes skydiving pictures on P. 14):D:D

Sewinglady, so nice to meet you! Seems like there are a surprising number of us who have lived in N.C. at one time or another! What state (or country) do you live in now? I now live in Massachusetts, although I have relatives in Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island.
This conversation takes me right back to high school and the weekend road trips to Myrtle Beach, or Asheville and the mountains!
I've been reading and enjoying your posts. You are very talented; and your posts are so enjoyable!:D

P.S. Anyone else out there who is, or has lived in North or South Carolina??

Pawleys Island!?o_O:inlove: That's right in my backyard! Has anyone been to Brookgreen Gardens, by any chance? It's so beautiful there. It's one of my favorite places in the area. Sewinglady, your friends are right, Myrtle Beach is an entirely different place now. It's heartbreaking how much it's changed. I avoid it as much as possible, but I do enjoy shopping and going to restaurants there in the off-season.
It's so nice to hear from so many past & present Carolina girls.:)

farmlily3 - I started out life in Montana, then as I mentioned, a couple years in South Carolina...then I got married to my high school sweetheart (who was in the Navy) and we spent a long time living on Whidbey Island in western Washington (it's north of Seattle). Then, in spite of me saying I would "never" move back to my home town, we did indeed move back to Montana...so here I am back in Big Sky Country.

8)Hi POPPY!! Yes! Brookgreen Gardens! I loved it too, especially the gorgeous horse sculpture at the entrance!! (You know - being a horse lover and all....!):D:D By the way - that's a nice 'back yard' you have there! LOL;) My (now ex-) husband lives on Pawleys and was the one I went to Brookgreen with just out of high school, (along with my best friend and her husband-to-be). It was beautiful.

Sewinglady - What a sweet story! I love to hear about high school sweethearts. And Montana! You grew up there??
Spotsbox is also from Montana. She has shown us some gorgeous pictures of it. That's one state I've not yet had the pleasure of visiting, but I'd love a nice loooong road trip across it!! (Speaking of road trips! lol)

    dgirl - What a small world.....and horses, too!:D:D
Hope you do get to retire there. It would be so nice to be near your brother/family!
